I'm disappointed and upset now. I honestly thought that after a boring-ass start to the season Gem Harvest would SURELY add some lore and address Peridot's frightened "you're going to harvest me!" or something, we'd get more insight into HW society or such

What the fuck is going on with the show? What happened to it? What is this endless avalanche of filler? Why are Peridot and Lapis written so shittily now?

Everyone complaining about so many filler episodes don't worry. I don't like this filler shit either but it's the beginning of season 4 now so expect a bunch of filler in the beginning and then we'll get a bunch of lore filled episodes. That seems to be the pattern with the seasons of SU.

Season 1 didn't have much until ocean gem.
Season 2 had alot of good lore episodes but took awhile to pick up.
Then season 3 started with super watermelon island and gem drill, we got all that Jasper arc, then the rubies and the PD story. We got ALOT of lore for a long time, this was bound to happen sooner or later but hopefully we'll get alot of plot soon.

And hopefully no more townie episode bullshit.

Lapis and Peridot episodes are good for showcasing just how different Gem society and perspective is from Steven's human one, since the CG's have been around Earth and humans (and Greg) for long enough to understand concepts like growing old- concepts that Lapis and Peridot don't understand.

Additionally, Lapis being traditional Gem society and Peridot being modern Gem society further showcases how Homeworld has developed (not always for the best) in the past five thousand years.
