My biggest gripe is that it's more of the same when it preaches the idea of separating itself from common notions of superheroing. They say they're different but in reality they aren't. It's like the poster boy of all the shallow changes marvel goes through every relaunch, now it's worse than ever because it's been shown that these lazy relaunches aren't working for their sales since their last relaunch after secret wars. Middle aged people aren't any better or worse at writing teenagers than people of any age (including teenagers). The problem is that some middle aged writers think they're going to sound hip and up to date and write the way 'the kids today" are talking. It always sounds phony because they've based it on a few people online and a few people their kids hang out with.

There are lots of ways to write teenagers that don't sound awful. Some writers use more stylized dialogue that sounds like its own separate language (Clueless), some of them use simple dialogue without a lot of slang, even Bob Haney's Teen Titans is memorable for how ridiculous the slang is.

But what a writer is never going to be able to do is sound cool to real teenagers. All teen dialogue sounds like it's written by old people, even when it's written by teens.

I'm not against characters acting as author mouthpieces as long as it is in character and they make fair points, but what got me is the fact that she said I'm not going to give a speech before giving a really preachy speech.
