So why does Superman get so much hate for being overpowered and too clean cut, but no one bats an eye at Captain Marvel, who is just as powerful and even more of a boyscout? Is it simply because casuals don't know him?

Yes.

Captain Marvel isn't overpowered compared to his villains. His version of Lex Luthor can recite a mathematical formula and walk through walls.
Dr. Sivana is a freakin' mathematician.

And Superman isn;t overpowered compared to his. Because, big shocker, a character being overpowered has nothing to do with hos much power they have, but how they are written. Because no matter how strong Superman is, give him the Thought Robot, give him the sword, give him a GL ring, open a portal to Marvel and give him Mjolnir and weave Cap's shield into his costume, any writer worth a damn can STILL make an enemy to challenge him.

Captain Marvel isn't more OP then Superman, but power has nothing to do with how good a character is. It is always about execution, and Captain simply executes it better.

Well if you recall originally DC comics sued Fawcett comics over Captain Marvel, precisely because they were considered to be the same character, and forced Fawcett out of comic book publishing completely as a result, which meant that for the next 20 years nobody was even reprinting his stuff.
The modern iteration - who is called Shazam, since DC never owned the name Captain Marvel, and have called him Shazam since the 1970s in various media - has precious little to do with the original. Shazam of course comes in a different era - even by 1973 (when DC first licensed his comics from Fawcett for reprint) and certainly by 1977 (when DC actually bought the Fawcett comics back catalog) he was nothing special, an overpowered goon with a kooky backstory in a world of overpowered goons with kooky backstories. There's nothing about him that stands out from the crowd, and that's because he spent 20 years on forced hiatus thanks to DC, coming back as a relic of a time most people living now can't remember.
It's a little bit like how they'll keep making Jules Verne novels into movies, but only the same five or six, because that's what everybody knows, and they'll never really make a huge amount of money because everybody's seen it all before. Doesn't mean Verne was shit, just means that ship has sailed.

/co/ is filled with casuals that confuse normies with casuals. As you can see in this thread, most of them are casuals
The real question is what's people's obsession with turning Mary Marvel into a hoe?

Corrupting innocent girls is hot.

It's cause Mary Marvel IS for sexual and we all fucking know it.
