I can sort of understand that whole Wonder Woman x Batman pairing, at least from a mythology standpoint. Wonder Woman is pretty much a Greek demigod. Bruce is supposed to be this supreme example of human mental and physical achievement, exactly the kind of thing that would catch a god's - or demigod's - eye.

I think it was less about the fact that she was a god/demigod and he was some sort of Ulysses, and more about the fact that in the DCAU Superman already had Lois, Martian Manhunter already had the loner widower character type, Flash already had the immature bachelor character type and Green Lantern was already going to be paired with Hawkgirl. Leaving both Batman and Wonder Woman to sort of have a on-and-off romance of sorts. If Superman didn't had a previous cartoon and Lois, they'd have probably paired Superman with Wonder Woman.

I don't get why you guys want Batman to be so miserable desu. I guess its just a symptom of his current super-grim, psychologically unstable incarnation. Batman is meant to be physically and mentally perfect - the antithesis of the lunatic supervillains in Gotham. This idea of him being equally crazy and destined for misery just doesn't fit imo. That's not to say he should have a perfect happy-ending, but he should have some sort of Dark Knight Returns-esque ending where he becomes an underground vigilante elder-leader, perhaps with some sort of consort joining him (Catwoman?). No kids, just a quiet quasi-retirement of sorts with the woman he gets along with the best.

I'm fairly new to comics though, only read the older arcs (Miller, Loeb, etc.) so far. I don't see why BM/CW is a shit pairing, they seem to like each other. Is Catwoman dramatically changed in the newer runs or something?

The fact that Superman does it at all just adds to his mythos.

I can't really see Bruce having a really long-term relationship with anyone outside of Selina, but that's mostly from my experience with Earth 2 Batman, who actually managed to have a healthy relationship and family, and still keep up fighting crime.

In the original Earth-Two timeline he was semi-retired for a while and devoted himself to his marriage and helping the world as Bruce Wayne while Dick was Batman, but he still took up the cowl from time to time when Dick was away or when something big was going down. He only gave up being Batman for good when Selina died.

In N52 Earth-Two he was still Batman full-time after he got married.

Nah, seriously though, I agree to an extent that Batman shouldn't date anyone, he already has so much on his plate, but fuck all that 'he doesn't deserve happiness' and 'the point of Batman is tragedy' bullshit. Stories of any sort in any medium that stay constantly miserable get extremely tiresome very quickly, aside from maybe Berserk, but take Supernatural's and TWD's latter seasons for example; they fucking suck. It goes against basic human instinct/wants to want to read something that's just one miserable event after the other with nothing in between.
