I always liked A Shocker on Shock Street. That was genuinely creepy, and the twist at the end really weirded me out.

I heard there was a sequel to Egg Monsters from Mars.

If there was, did they explain why the kid laid an egg at the end and what it hatched into?
>>
>>86713878
This was probably the most heartbreaking twist in the series. The kids did nothing wrong.

Monster Blood IV was awful. I'm on Wikipedia right now and I don't see the Egg Monsters from Mars sequel listed.

Ghost Camp does have a sequel though.
>>
>>86714227
I remember haunted school was pretty good. The episode was about some kid who gets hauled off to boot camp and he tries escaping.
>>
>>86713878
The concept horrified me as a kid. Being stuck on a really well made horror ride.
>>
>>86713757
tfw I popped a boner reading Monster Blood III as a kid.

And now I have a macro fetish.
>>
I was always a huge fan of Slappy as a kid. Perhaps to a creepy degree. I really wanted an actual dummy and the closest that was able to be found was a Charley Macarthy. (there was a line of children's dummy, eventually they did actually make a Slappy, but I never knew this til I was an adult)

In any case I did my best to practice with him and I sat him in a little rocking chair next to my bed at night because I believed he'd protect me from evil things. I had this weird idea that monsters I really liked would be my friend though.
>>
>>86714429
Monster blood (and the blood/slime in how to kill a monster) gave me a Wet and Messy fetish :/ probably also nicklodeon slime time stuff too.

Haunted School was one of the best Gosebumps book Stine wrote. You go in expecting ghosts in a school but get insane shadow dimension shenanigans.

Sadly, no. The Goosebumps comics are

One Day at Horrorland
A shocker on Shock Street
Deep Trouble
Werewolf of Fever Swamp
Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes *
Ghost Beach
The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena *
The horror at Campy Jellyjam *
The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight
Night of the Living Dummy
* These ones are pretty lame, although Lawn Gnomes has the older sister straddling her younger brother and Jellyjam has a few good creepy moments
>>
>>86716787
You might be mixing up two Goosebumps.

I, and others who have replied, remember the vampire bit from one book, but I think the "planet of vampires; their moon is actually Earth" might be from another one.

I forget what it's called, but it's about a summer camp that a lot of weird things keep happening in like kids going missing and letters to home never being sent. The twist is that the protagonist's parents are secret agents for the government or something like that and the camp was a training ground to prepare him to join their ranks. The second twist was that they are all aliens and the reason this secret militant group exists is to invade Earth, which one character points to in the sky.

It was a long time ago, but I think that the TV show adaptation had them look like regular human beings, but in the book at the very end it started suddenly describing their alien characteristics.

I put on nearly three hundred pounds that day. By evening, I could barely walk.
“It’s an allergic reaction,” Mom said.
I stared at her. “Excuse me? What’s that?”
“You ate something you’re allergic to,” she answered. “A person doesn’t swell up
like a balloon overnight.”
Dad squinted at me. He was trying to look calm, but I could see how worried he
was. “Do you eat a lot of candy bars after school?” he asked.
Mom shook her head at Dad. “He could eat a thousand candy bars a day! They
wouldn’t make him this huge!” she declared.
“We’d better take him to an allergy doctor,” Dad murmured, rubbing his chin.
“We’ll take him to Dr. Weiss first,” Mom argued. “Dr. Weiss can tell us what
kind of doctor to take him to.”
They started to argue about what kind of doctor I needed.
I waddled out of the room. It took all my strength just to raise my enormous legs.
My chins sagged down over my neck. My big stomach bounced out of the room
ahead of me.

I wonder how many I can find in storage. Maybe it would be worth it to look on Amazon to fill the gaps. Looks like they run anywhere from a penny (so $4 after shipping) to a couple bucks (~$8 after shipping).

It would be even better to find people willing to help transcribe those books they have. Then converting them to a game format would be simple.

I tried to read all of goosebumps as a kid but for some reason I always had trouble finding this one. It ended up being one of my favorites and I can't even remember what happens in it.
>>
>>86730583
Two kids get lost and play a game with some strange beasts. The rules are odd and deadly.. and I think it's basically tag? Anyway eventually one of the kids' twin brother shows up and the beasts are shocked because cloning yourself is apparently an advanced move in this strange game. Since the beasts are noobs they forfeit because it isn't fair to play with such advanced players.

Then on the way home they find a scarier beast who wants to play. They boast that they can't since they're advanced players. The beast is all "lol me too" and starts the games again. End.
>>
Camp Cold Lake was pretty fucking spooky, as well as the one with the ghost of the kid who's head got pulled off.

I bought mine as a kindle ebook, which made transcribing it pretty much trivial once using an extension that allows you to copy and paste . Obviously if you want to complete your physical collection that isn't an option but something to keep in mind at least.

I remember reading that Stine made the gender of the MC of Egg Monsters From Mars vague on purpose because of the ending. Apparently he had wanted the MC to be a girl but the editors were not cool with it,so he made the MC's gender vague.

The MC of Egg Monsters From Mars was named Dana. He was described as a small dude who looked like a girl.

Last yeah while the theater I go to was playing the Goosebumps movie
They had switched out all the movie posters in the halls for poster size Goosebumps book covers.

They ended up having a Twitter contest, where people who tweeted them or something would be drawn at random to win the Goosebumps posters

My friend won this one (which in my opinion was the best of them)

>>86740622
He had ghostwriters for at least 7 of the Give Yourself Gooesbumps books, and at least 2 of the Ghosts of Fear Street series. No confirmed ghostwriters for regular Fear Street, in an interview Stine has said it took him 10 days to write a Fear Street novel. Stine claims he wrote all of the Goosebumps books without ghostwriters aside from having some help with outlines (he hasn't hidden the ghostwriters of the confirmed ghostwritten books, so there's that) but AFAIK no one's ever asked him about Fear Street specifically.
>>
>>86740622
That was Ghosts Of Fear Street, which was basically Goosebumps taking place on Fear Street. There was a little continuity between Fear Street and Ghosts of Fear Street since locations and characters from Fear Street would get referenced in Ghosts of Fear Street.
>>86739554
Fear Street got insane at times. There were four different characters who showed up in various books (protagonists in some of them) who were actually split personalities of another character who was in various books.

The Nightmare Room doesn't get as much discussion about it.

I still had some lingering fears of dolls from Child's Play, the various Slappy episodes, and some Are You Afraid of the Dark episode with a ventriliquist dummy (or was that only in the intro), so this episode creeped me out a bit.

It didn't help that we were installing hardware floors, and so we had to climb through windows so we didn't mess up the varnish or something. My dad came home from work in the middle of the episode (at night), and my sisters and I were freaked out something was crawling into the house from behind us.

Movie would've been 10/10 if it tried to have an edge, and if it used more beloved monsters as the primary antagonists. Why the fuck did they use The Blob That Ate Everyone instead of Monster Blood? Apparently they had pic related all set to go and had to cut those scenes out, probably because the studio didn't want a super scary movie.

Other than that, it was cute. Jack Black's take on Stine was great. Really wish he would've been the primary lead instead of the kids.
>>

Did people really think these were scary? Don't get me wrong, I loved Goosebumps as a kid, and I still do for the nostalgia, but the scariest thing about them was the covers. Tim Jacobus needs to sell prints of those or something; even now I'd love to have some of them framed.

Are You Afraid of the Dark was so much scarier. The Goosebumps show did have a few moments, though, but most of it was from how shitty and gross the special effects could get. Even now, the Haunted Mask still holds up for that very reason.
>>
>>86745093
I heard people compare it to Monster Squad when it came out, ended up seeing it expecting that and was really disappointed that it was so tame and safe.

If you're going to make an 80s/90s inspired kid movie, go all the way. The thing about ones like Jumanji and Monster Squad and Hocus Pocus is that people actually fucking died in them and there was always a sense of danger for the kids.
>>
>>86745316

>>
>>86750634
Again, you missed out on the Choose Your Own Adventure series of books that were printed in the 70s or so. One book had you trying to find Bigfoot. One ending, it turned out that Bigfoot was just a counterfeiter with giganticism hiding in the woods who realized that his 50 dollar bills needs the blood, flesh, and bones of a kid.

Seriously, no shit. It even had illustrations, which featured a hairy a giant holding a young kid over a boiling cauldron.

God bless adults from those decades, they did not try and caudal children.
>>
>>86745400
I'm watching the movie right now and hating it. There's so much forced awful attempts at Simon Pegg type humor in this shit.
>>
>>86745093
If you think about it, he WAS the primary lead.
The kids were just there to be a couple of nobodies that you follow around just like what they had in the books.

I kind of wish the second movie would bull some bullshit like having Black say that he made some prop replicas and those have the same effects as the manuscripts. So we'd have some random guy who finds and wears the mask as the main villain.
>>
>>86751479
The haunted mask needs to be villian in the new movie. And it should have all the masks on some randos.

Yep. And I think he said he'll go back and save her.. er, eventually. You know, after he's finished finally hooking up with his crush, being a spoiled only child, etc, etc.,

One of the TWINE anons here btw.. Working on converting one of the Give Yourself Goosebumps books found online into.. well, not quite TWINE..

Honestly man? I expected it to be meh. Took my 10 year old little sister who is way into horror movies, and she really liked it. We both compared it to Cabin in the Woods, and she said she liked Goosebumps better because Jack Black was funny and there were more monsters.

I'm very proud her favorite movie is The Thing. Like that makes me happy.

I will say I agree with you in that it felt shallow in comparison to the TV series, but the series had more focused narratives. This was just Cabin in the Woods, for kids.

Plus Jack Black screaming in anger about Stephen King was top tier fun.
>"Domestic or world-wide?"
>"I STILL SOLD A LOT OF BOOKS!"
Plus Jillian from Workaholics was in it, right?

>>86772008
This. The movie was fun, but too many people expected the 90's show.

Never mind, I found them. For some reason the "famous" ones are under "specials". I had gotten to Night of the Living Dummy 2, but had never watched the first. These are all the "specials"

>The Werewolf of Fever Swamp
>The Haunted Mask II

I don't know if it was goosebumps or the haunting hour but an episode had farm kids get a scarecrow to scare away crows when the scarecrow begins to erase people from exsistance . It ended with the last kid alone for the end of the world tyed up on a stake with the scarecrow . It was fucked up
>>
My favorites were the ones my brother didn't have. I looked in the school library for them, and when I did, I was hooked. The titles alone got me excited.
>Ghost Beach

What game was that?
I remember in Why I'm Afraid of Bees there was some.. space knight game? And the main character couldn't kill a dragon. He posts to a forum for help and someone gives him a tip. MC tries it like 50 times and it doesn't work. Still makes me laugh when I think about it, just like the old days of BBS or even gamefaqs.

Oh, also pic related... made using the demo by bunnyboy here: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=33260

This is just a proof of concept. Working on getting some rough epub --> CYOA(NES) conversion tools put together.

Also working on some other features for that engine like a better selection method for choices (using SELECT to toggle instead of A/B to choose since eventually there will be N+ possible branches). And expanding the page limit past 256.

I got a kick out of this. Girlfriend and I saw it in theaters last year and enjoyed it. It was more like a loving callback to the series, and I enjoyed seeing so many iconic monsters. Plus, Slappy being voiced by Jack Black was actually pretty neat.

The rest my brother didn't have. How was the 2000 series? I only glanced at a few of them back then.
>>
>>86753981
Damn, too bad that image isn't going horizontal. It would make a perfect /co/ banner.
>>
>>86774319
2000 series was.. hit or miss. An expanded cat story.. which featured a cat tornado or something ridiculous like that.

Creature Teacher was decent. I also liked the 2-part Invasion books, even if the ending was just.. uhh yeah. Others were very very.. pointless. Which is something I remember carrying off into Nightmare Room...

Honestly, the Give Yourself Goosebumps books were the best. Pretty much all of them were quality, with interesting ideas and some neat mechanics outside of 'choose page 3 or page 88??', like trivia (about goosebumps), coin flips, "can you do 5 pushups?".. some even had an inventory/puzzles.
>>
>>86774397
GYG was a good series, but my brother only had three of them. And looking at the list, there were a lot more than I thought I had missed out on.

>>
>>86750524
Fuck that space one.

If i remember right you got to choose which planet you were from, half of them were "you love it here so much you never leave for space"," another one was "your planet is caught in a war and you die via lasers" and the last option was "this is a good planet to be from, especially for space explorer!"

And then it asked you what you studied in space school and 3/4th of the answer were "youre bad at that subject and dont actually get to go to space"

no fucking mercy, but barely a brutal death

>>
>>86750524
I can't remember which Goosebombs CYOA book it was but one ending basically has you dissected and put in various jars in a room, and all of those body parts function independently still, so your eyes are looking out the jar and you scream and you hear yourself from across the room.
>>
I used to have the special sized musuem one where there is only good ending and you had to collect random musuem gift shop items to survive like compass pda walkie talkie and battery . I always got fucked over by the maze and get my co.pass dorection wrong

The (well most of the) other Goosebumps series are available in an RL Stine collection that also has Fear Street, etc

The big gaps noone can seem to find online are:
> Give Yourself Goosebumps (especially the mega specials like Into The Jaws Of Doom and the later books)
> Ghosts of Fear Street (far as I can tell, only.. 1/2? of them are online, basically just what's in the collection I mentioned earlier)
>>
>>86773778
Is anyone interested in having the Give Yourself Goosebumps books in this format? This gif is of a NES rom/demo with the first few branches of Beware of the Purple Peanut Butter

Give yourself Goosebumps are the most based ones, so it's fitting that they're rarest online.
