Is Gummi Bears the second most intellectual cartoon after Steven Universe?
But anon, Gummi Bears is more intellectual than Steven Universe!

It's the show of choice for cartoon bear afficionados. Any Gummi Bears fan is aces in my book.
Gummi Bears was a vital steppingstone towards shit like gargoyles, but on a grander scale it was the first high quality syndicated tv cartoon meant to intentionally bleed money at first and make it up later on. and by god, it did. and that era lasted for about 15 wonderful years before 9/11 killed it because nobody had any faith in the future anymore
and now pretty much every industry is dying because nobody will put any investment into it, or take any risks on sure-things.

I want to note this wasn't me. I'm ashamed of this thread.
t. OP
Gummi Bears had some pretty neat lore. I remember the ep where they found an ancient communicator, and it was implied that there were thriving Gummi civilizations across the world that our cast had no idea about. Did the series ever build up anything else like that?

Wasn't that pretty much the underlying theme of the whole series?
The Great Gummis fled across the sea to get away from the humans who wanted to steal their technology. That much was known to the Glen Gummies, but they never knew if they had safely found a new home. The communicator proved that they were still alive. There was also the tribe of Gummis that turned to barbarism (literally, the Barbics), and the Kingdom of Gummadoon, which would phase out of time for decades at once. Plus there were nomadic bears that showed up every so often, like Gusto, and that one that owned an airship.
Calla for Disney Princess when?

After we get a full length feature film based on the gummie bears.
In CGI of course, and that will launch a reboot or continuation(HAHAHA,as if) series that will not have as great animation as the first one had due t being Korean toon boom or CGI.
Fans of the original shall rage knowing in a few years some then-adult will have found nostalgia over the CGI gummie bears.
Others will compare it to that ridiculous CGI gummie bear that already exists.

All I know is the final episode of the first season "Light Makes Right" was THE greatest toon story I saw in my youth.
For those that don't know, the Gummies find a device that uses concentrated light to send messages between Gummi settlements. The big question in the show was were they alone. The device unfortunately can be used as a weapon because of it's power. What you get is a free for all from the evil Duke that wants to use it to blow up the castle, the castle trying to defend itself, and the Gumnmies stuck in the middle trying in a race against everyone to communicated with the points located on the device. I remember going nuts wanting them to hurry up and send the message and was DEVASTATED by the ending, and yet a bit hopeful at the same time
Best episode for that time period. Period.

Yes.
They discover that the rest of the Gummi bears ("The Great Gummis") have moved somewhere across the ocean (sort of similar to the Elves leaving Middle Earth and moving to the Undying Lands) and they have taken most of their magic and technology with them.
In the series finale, the Gummi Glen group blows their chance to reunite with the rest of the Gummis because they choose to stay and help Calvin and Princess Calla fight Duke Igthorn, who has taken over Dunwyn.
