Do you think that if they removed Brevroot as EoC of Marvel that a lot of the current problems plaguing Marvel might be fixed? Or is Marvel's current malaise into mediocrity, political and non-comic book reader pandering, and general disdain for it's core fans a larger systemic issue of Disney or the publishing industry?
>>
>>86343323
Brevoort is not EoC.

You're trying to argue about something you have extremely bare understanding of, and even those tiny pieces were picked up here on /co/. You've got nothing to contribute and neither do people who are attracted to these types of threads anymore.

TLDR fuck off

Literally stopped reading there and I don't even have to look at what the rest of the post says.
Thinly veiled /tvpol/ thread.

Try again next time, faggot.

This was happening way before Disney. Marvel needs a company wide cleansing of writers and editors. Its isn't just pushing a SJW attitude. Look at DC. Some of their best books, like Batwoman or Midnighter or any of the Milestone books, could be considered SJW. Hell, Green Lantern is about a Muslim and a strong independent woman who don't need no man, but the first few issues so far have been fantastic. The difference is that the people writing them care about story first, politics second. At Marvel it seems to have been reversed.

That and events. Marvel needs to just fucking stop with events. If every event "changes the Marvel universe forever!!1!" then no event does.

What's "EoC"?

>and a strong independent woman who don't need no man

There are may ways to describe Jessica Cruz, but that isn't one of them.

Nothing can fix marvel

>>86343420
Is /tv/ the new /pol/? Does /co/ have a new boogeyman to blame all their problems on?
>>
>>86343468
>Hell, Green Lantern is about a Muslim and a strong independent woman who don't need no man
>strong independent woman who don't need no man
>Jessica

lol

>>86344165
/tv/ and /pol/ are the same thing.
Have been for years now.
>>
>>86344116
Probably editor of chief when it's really "editor in chief"

Though Brevoort is Senior Vice President of Publishing and I think still Executive Editor
>>
>>86344165
Yes. Everything is the cause of /co/'s problems except /co/ itself.
>>
Let's not mistake that it would be helpful
>>
>>86344116
Something OP has no understanding of.

>>86344165
>Is /tv/ the new /pol/?
Yes.

>boogeyman
Case in point. Go back to /tv/.

Brevoort can be dickish online (or could, I think he finally gave up answering reader questions after the Cap-is-HYDRA flap) but writers seem to respect him as an editor. Probably everyone has at least one favorite Marvel book from the last 20 years that he edited.

I think based on his past work he's not very good at editing big line-wide events, even though he's been put in charge of most of them. But the biggest problem is the culture of constant events and relaunches, which can be blamed on the higher management.
>>
>>86344484
>Brevoort can be dickish online
In fairness, he seems to spend quite a bit of time responding to passive-aggressive manchildren, which is bound to test your patience before long. Just look at /co/, for example.
>>
>>86343372
First post best post.
>>
>>86344723
So basically he's a passive aggressive manchild because he deals with passive aggressive manchildren?
>>
>>86344126
If it were Marvel writing her, you know that's what she would be. As it is, she is a broken and fragile person who really does find her inner strength and, what's more, actually earns it. You feel fantastic for the character when she triumphs because you watched her struggle with it, unlike, say, Jane Foster Thor who just got her powers because I don't know why just respect her God damn it!
>>
Nothing would change if you fired Brevroot, because Marvel Editors don't do anything.
>>
>>86345630
That's a good point.

The reason that most of these new characters is that they don't have significant flaws. People like Kamala, Amadeus, and Jessica because they have flaws that make them interesting, and how they deal with them results in interesting character development.

Jane Foster has very few character flaws, which makes it so her supporting cast becomes way more interesting and engaging than her.
>>
>>86346033
Let's look at the two biggest offenders for Marvel's super awesome special snowflake main character cliche, Thor and FalCap.

Thor, already explained. She has no personality other than being THE SUPER BESTEST CHARACTER EVER NO FLAWS ALLOWED! In fact, the only flaw is that she has cancer and is so brave and strong for fighting against that cancer. Its a flaw that makes people feel sympathy toward her, which in turn means she doesn't have to work for it. Compare that with Jessica from Green Lantern, whose flaw is that she is completely terrified of basically everything because of a personal trauma. This is a mental fight that she has to work to overcome. Its not something that makes the reader immediately care about her, but as she struggles and gets better it allows the reader to.

Now let's compare FalCap to Simon. Sam, of course he has flaws, he's been around since the 70s. He has an established character, we know him. His problem in his current book is that the plots they give him center around one thing and one thing only: blackness. He is the black Captain America. They don't care about his previous character, the reader should only care about him because he is black. He saves illegal immigrants who are experimented on by white corrupt businessmen. He is fighting evil robot cops who brutalize minority communities right now. He is literally fighting evil robot cops in the era of Black Lives Matter. You know who Simon is fighting? Evil rage monsters. Not symbolizing anything. Just an evil rage monster and his blue rage cat. Because he's a superhero, not a Doonsbury strip. And he builds himself up just as much as Jessica.

>>86343323
Marvel will never let go of Brevoort
he's too much of a loyal yes man
>>
Do you guys think the quality of Marvel Comics would increase if Sana Amanat became Editor-in-Chief? I honestly think she has the best chance of anyone at Marvel at becoming EiC after Axel Alonso steps down.
>>
>>86343323
And now their comics ain't selling. Good.
>>
>>86348485
Alonso's probably not going anywhere, or at least that would explain why editors like Stephen Wacker left to do other things at Marvel, there's no chance for a promotion in publishing.

Editor-in-chief doesn't have the power it used to have and that also means it's a job for life. Look how long Bob Harras has lasted at DC compared to when he was EiC of Marvel, because when he was at Marvel, the job actually meant something and you got fired for failure.
>>
>>86349284
Bob Harras has friends in the high ranks, so he won't go anywhere until he retires. When he does, Mark Doyle will probably get the spot.
>>
>>86343468
>The difference is that the people writing them care about story first, politics second. At Marvel it seems to have been reversed.
Lol, I really don't think anyone at Marvel thinks story should be so close to the top anymore.
>>
>>86350302
Mark Doyle is bae af.

Haven't heard much about the guy of late, still just doing the bat-line right?
>>
>>86351465
Yes, and Wonder Woman cause Rucka wanted him.
>>
>>86350302
>Bob Harras has friends in the high ranks

He only has one and that is Jim Lee. Everyone else just tolerates him because he doesn't interfere too much with their individual fiefdoms.
>>
>>86351640
That is more like Conroy though, he probably was the only reason Batbooks are doing WW since he was also Azz's editor on WW.
