And her father; The mother looked like Adult Ariel, and the young King Trident was a ginger as well.

It's really dumb, but all this came way after the fact in the prequel movie. There was a lot of stuff from the film that Disney swept under the rug that was said when the film was new that they no longer consider canon (outside of the musical) like Ursula being an Octopus because her dark magic turned her evil and that she was King Trident's sister who never got over not being chosen as Atlantic's new leader.

Disney doesn't really have a solid canon for any of their movies though, and really just changes it to fit whatever sequels/prequels show or movies they produce.

I just found it convenient for Ariel to look like a carbon copy of her mother. It's not like she needed something to push her up to super special status. She was already the protagonist of two movies, a tv show, as well as the youngest daughter with the best voice.

It wasn't weird. It was the perfect way to explain that they were the daughters of Triton, the great father who loved them and named them well.

Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana, those are some Grade-A names.

They succintly introduce who the main character is going to be by telling youshe's is the youngest, in her musical debut. It's the seventh little sister, and they want to present her to you to show you the unity they have as a family.

They further flesh out the characters you've seen so far by letting you know Sebastian wrote the song they're singing, and you already expect Ariel's voice to be supreme because it's "like a bell."

She's their sister, Ariel, and there you have the main character's name.

It's pure meta-musical genius for the people of Atlantica, you mouthbreathing swine.

Arista is my favorite design wise but character wise Aquata is. I remember reading a comic where she had to worry about being the heir to the throne and she was overworked. It striked a cord with me because I love royalty that actually does stuff. Disney films usually gloss over the actual political parts of being a king or princess. That's also part of why I like Elsa so much.
