I want to get into the authority whats the best starting point, what runs should i read and avoid, and do i need to read any other wildstorm books?
>>85956475
Start with Warren Ellis' run on Stormwatch, he totally changes the team line-up and restructures the organization so it's easy to jump into.
Read that to its conclusion. The first volume of The Authority is a direct follow-up to it and all the team members are introduced in Stormwatch.
After that, read pretty much whatever you want. I've never seen any particular run universally praised or hated so your mile may vary on each.

Planetary/Authority

Shit read Planetary regardless it is great
>>85956475
Indeed Stormwatch can be a good starting point, but you can start Authority without any knowledge of the world or the characters.
The original Ellis run is awesome.
Robbie Morrison's v2 is decent, the Coup d'Etat is a great idea.
Brubaker's v3 is Brubaker.
The Lost Year from Grant Morrison/Keith Giffen is a bit wacky, but readable.
Gage's Prime consist of one arc, some knowledge of the Stormwatch might needed to enjoy it.
The Abnett/Lanning v4 might require some background story, so Armageddon, Revelations, Number of the Beast can be useful to read, because the v4 starts after the World's End. Also Abnett and Lanning does what they can do best: space travelling adventures.
(Not needed in any way, but READ PLANETARY! One of my favourite comic of all time, that shit is pure gold.)
Planetary.

I'm surprised DC hasn't folded Planetary in to the main DCU yet. Could have them investigating why there was no superhumans between the JSA in WW2 and the emergence of all the new heroes.

Planetary wasnt that good of a book and they dont add much lore wise outside all the patsiches.

Ill be honest Planetary often is just really pretty lit major family guy .
References for the sake of references with very little narrative , plot or character development.
>>85962960
>>85962717
Yes, it's references, but it shows off Ellis's strengths in single issues while having a payoff
Unlike most of his recent stuff.
>>85956475
I did re-read it last month until the end of Millars run. Ellis on Stormwatch/Authority is still pretty good, story and dialogues on Stormwatch were better, but I think the best thing about Authority was the the artwork. The artwork is still pretty awesome, but not as new and "wow" as it used to be.
Millar's Authority hasn't aged well for me. It felt pretty revolutionary back in the day, but reading now, it felt like they tried to gross out the readers and their editors(I guess it was edgy back in the day), making us salute their balls, about what they got away with, while barely touching the interesting points (Authorithy actually trying to change the world, and what happens? The World's elite strikes back, the Authorithy gets better, still status quo at the end of Millars Run).
