Merc is actually in love with Emerald. All that cheap flirting is just him using a "hide a tree in a forest" kinda deal due to the fact that his upbringing left him insecure about showing true feelings (plus the fact that he's pretty sure Em only has eyes for Cinder anyways). Emerald was already showing pangs of conscience while Beacon was getting razed. If those feelings continue to develop, Cinder probably wont stand for that and try to kill Em. Knowing how RT loves it's cliches, Merc will probably run in and take the hit, dying in her stead (probably bleeding out in Ems arms, etc...).

I am just tired of the villains' motives being still unexplained. So much on the lyrics about "you send them to die blah blah blah you think you're a hero but you're not" is hard to take seriously when villains like Cinder and Selma are still the "Unknown evil with motives we know fuck about"

Season 3 shook things enough to give me hope that we will finally have the main cast learn some revelations already. They no longer have the "They are students so the adults would obviously hide shit from them" excuse anymore.
