Not completely seperate. One thought = one butterfly. The spiral of them WAS Sapphire and each thought she had for the future overwhelming her, and Ruby's was her getting worked up over singular thoughts. It was their issues, it just didn't have anything to do with Ruby's self-worth in the scene (but it can be assumed that when she gets bogged down with those thoughts, Sapphire comes to help).

I do think Ruby and Sapphire are worryingly co-dependent and I hope they address that soon, but I thought that scene was, in the end, not a bad example of their relationship. They're both flawed, they get distracted in their own issues, but then they remember to be there for each other (it's pretty relateable to anyone in a relationship).

But it'd be great if they managed to address R/S's co-dependency AND tie it into how Garnet talks almost exclusively about fusion nowadays. Like Steven asks her about something else and she starts freaking sweating and faltering like a robot.

Bismuth didn't specifically want to shatter only the diamonds, she wanted to shatter the HW gems the CG fought against, that is the same type of grunt gems Rose and Bismuth themselves were.

But the biggest reason she got bubbled is because she attacked her leader, liberator and friend with the intent to shatter when she didn't get to do as she pleased.

Not for wanting to use unethical fighting methods, but for turning traitor the moment she got told no.
