Dunno how much it changes things. Slade's major flaw was that he was always underestimating his opponents though. Shredder did too, but Slade at least attempted to fix things. He still couldn't comprehend that anyone would actually continue to defy him even after it seemed he won. He always lets his guard down at the last second.

A Robin modeled after DCAU Tim Drake kept Slade occupied for over 2 minutes in fights without even getting his ass kicked in 1 of them, so Shredder by quite a bit.

Can't speak to that version of Shredder, but Slade was basically evil Batman in the series, with Ron Perlman's voice to boot.
