>Following the death of the Rubies, the destruction of a red-eye and scout ship, and the presumed death of Jasper, Lapis Lazuli, and a Peridot, homeworld decides to finally crush the rebellion that killed Pink Diamond along with so many loyal gem soldiers. The Crystal Gems are easily overwhelmed by the small force of homeworld's elite, and immediately shattered. Lapis and Peridot are taken for questioning and reconditioning. Homeworld begins rounding up all of the humans Rose Quartz thought so valuable to be slaves on future colonies, and to experiment in making hybrid soldiers. In an act of arrogance, Steven is thrown in to a massive holding cell with the other citizens of beach city.

>In a last ditch effort Steven attempts to fuse with the people of beach city, and then the people of earth, until all of humanity is united in one massive organic fusion. A massive battle takes place, the fusion driving off the invasion force and poofing Yellow Diamond, though getting severely injured in the process. Its blood and such permanently changes the landscape a-la EoE. After un-fusing, several people are missing, and most are hideously mutated and infertile. Steven is one of the only normal-ish humans left. Though they drove off the homeworld gems and saved the earth, humanity is now doomed to live out its final days in a barren wasteland of a planet.

So had a thought about the new episode.

If emotional/mental distraction causes instability in the fusion that causes distortion in their perception of reality, possibly physical warping (Malachite's face), and eventually the components falling out of the fusion to protect themselves from the effects, could this be a fusion analogue to gem corruption as it also originates mentally?

If a fusion gets "corrupted" by imbalance it can still break in order to spare the components. But what if an individual gem is corrupted? Is the a chance that these hallucinations and extreme symptoms manifest in corrupted gems and is what drives them to gradually no longer act like their original selves.

Just a thought. Probably off somewhere though.

Thing is, it's probably not enough for Jasper to love herself. Remember what she said after the fusion with the corrupted monster broke. She said "nobody ever wants to stay with me". She wasn't just talking about that Gem nor was she only talking about Lapis. She was talking about Pink Diamond. She was talking about Homeworld.

Much like Amethyst Jasper has deep abandonment issues. She hates herself because she feels she's not good enough for anybody since she wasn't good enough to save her Diamond. Jasper very much treats everyone as she treats herself- with hatred and loathing. Bashing them for being weak when she thinks she's weal herself.

Jasper needs to learn to love herself so that others can love her because nobody ever really did.

And that has important ramifications for Malachite and Jaspis in particular. Because Jasper went on a gem-hunt to find Lapis. She's living in the ocean now. Not because she's some kind of a sado-maso freak who likes to feel pain. But because when the two were Malachite, Lapis actually needed her.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing healthy about that relationship. But the fact is Jasper gave Lapis something she didn't have- sense of power and control. From a prisoner Lapis turns into a jailer and is now in full control of everything. That rush, that ability to take advantage of someone is something she never had. And in turn Lapis is giving Jasper what she needed- sense of belonging. The illusion of importance. After all, she was important enough and strong enough to be imprisoned. And at the same time she is being punished for being weak, something she deeply believes.

Again, this was a horrible and broken relationship that should not have ever continued.

But now Lapis understands Jasper that much more. They HAVE TO work out their differences. I would be genuinely surprised if Jasper's redemption did not involve Jasper learning to love herself and thus allowing others, most importantly Steven, to love her.

I don't know if the Cluster really works the same way while being bubbled as other gems do.

It might be more like Heaven/Earth Beetles where they're still conscious and well, but they're in a bubble and they can't get out.

The Cluster seems to be setting up for something kinda like Hohenheim, where it's now taking it's time to get to know every gem shard within itself.
Then, come some major threat like Homeworld invading, they'll find a way to get the bubble out of the planet safely and then the Cluster will take an actually controlled form as it's been able to learn who it is among the millions of shards of souls.
