In fact, it's questionable whether or not OCs will stay in comics, because second lawsuit over them (even though not directly over Freedom Fighters) is just too bothersome for Sega.

Their asses are in more heat than Mayday Parker's 10 years ago.

While I think it might be neat, since the FF have more game-like designs now, it's probably just going be another time travel plot with a Bad Future

The time they had the best chance at slipping was when Sonic Team were expanding the cast, but they didn't and a section of the fanbase locked towards a particular era that they consider their golden age and revolted by things beyond that were against adding more.

We're at the point now where the cast is being limited (Sonic Dash, Sonic Generations) to the current incarnation, filtered (e.g. only Team Shadow cameo or mentioned) or even reduced (Just Sonic & maybe Tails or Team STKA only). How much attention Sonic Team is really paying to the reception is debatable, chances are they're just lightening their workload however they did do a survey a few months ago so it is possible they at least intend to keep track of what fans like even if what they dislike isn't important. Still means they'll trim the hedges if the pay off of doing less stays the same.

But most importantly the people at Sonic Team America and Japan are generally just vaguely aware or completely unaware of the Satam and Archie stuff. After all that stuff was made to be supplementary, to sell cartoon viewers and comic readers to the game not vice versa. To switch gears now would be an effort in futility, the Satam fans are either too old or like the Archie fans already playing Sonic, and if they're not then trying to appeal to them specifically is kind of pointless. Easier to just truck along and aim for another subgroup who is unaware of Sonic altogether as an explanation for their disinterest, hence why Sonic Boom came along to revive the cartoon audience I suspect. The game was shit ironically but that's not important so long as the viewers go out and buy Sonic merch in general.

One more thing

Speaking of missed opportunities after Sonic cameo'd in Wreck it Ralph in 2012 had Disney got involved in making a movie for the series there might have been a chance of using them and increasing awareness since unlike the case of the cast in the video games the film makers would likely want to recapture the Satam audience as potential ticket buyers, and to JP the FF would just be a bunch of new characters.

For fans who adhere to The SA2 cast or Genesis era cast or whatnot they would likely have few complaints since it's not like the Satam/Archie cast have ever influenced the direction of the games negatively before, so familiar or not they'd be received neutrally.

Unfortunately that shot's gone. The new movie's producers and writers are of a questionable character and it's going to be live action w/ cgi, so, that's Sonic's luck isn't it? Never can quite get the shit together across the board.

It's never gonna happen. There's just too many differences between universes. The games don't need "Freedom Fighters". Eggman has never once come close to enslaving anything beyond a bunch of eyeball aliens.
