Remember that scene in Morrion's Action comics where he's on Brainiac's ship. "You'll never keep these people in a bottle." Superman is about the common good in all people. His greatest super power is that he's a good person.

You can do a "Superman can't into humanity" story. That was basically Earth One. Birthright had elements of it. But Superman is generally the people's champion. When he shows up people cheer.

When he's hovering over people he's just saved he should say something with a smile as the music swells, not grimace and look like he can't stand being around people.

He's not supposed to be Spider-Man or X-Men.

I don't get the "dark is more relateable" argument. Most people find a social group to fit in with-that's why the Daily Planet stuff is so important. Most people feel good when they save people.

Most people talk and communicate, not say nothing when called to explain themselves to people.
