In times of boredom, the British empire would manufacture false events on foreign lands to entertain theirselves, you know what the biggest and longest running one is? The US. The constitution and the bill of rights were fake, the founding fathers? Highly devoted thespians who were as loyal to the crown as they were to Shakespeare. This entire country is just one big false event that's been spiraled into a world-wide spectacle. So, in other words the brits still rule and we all live in a world where the sun never sets on the British empire. The "trope" of them being better than us is simply their attempt to ease the United States' citizens into the truth of their situation

The fights the US can't win are more analogous to an angry man stomping around his backyard trying to kill every ant from an anthill. He has the capability to kill all of them but the strong ant poisons are banned by the homeowners association because they would kill all the other animals nearby.
