He's never even been nominated for his directing, and "Best Picture" is not by any means a surrogate award for "we wanted to give you best director".

This show doesn't get good until about half way through season 1, but in this case its half because the episodes aren't that good and half because a large portion of the drama and humor is rooted in these characters and what makes them tick and without that you are depriving yourself.

Basically, latter half of season 1 will still be kinda dull without the context of the first half of season 1, and without that context some plot developments won't have the effect they should have. Bojack just isn't built to let people skip episodes.
