Writers get paid per script and it depends on the show and the writer how much that is.

On average, cable TV cartoons are probably not as much as the top network shows or HBO hour long shows, but easily more than a low income person makes a year doing a crap job.

A load of dude/ttes have gone on to write and do other stuff. MLP is just a 9-5 to them and to Hasbro at the end of the day.

You also have to remember that the Ride has been going on for SIX (6) YEARS now. They've probably been writing their own scripts and stories for things they really want to do.

They don't "quit". They just don't renew their contracts. Unlike people like Jeff Liu who were hand-picked by the creator, a lot of people on shows like MLP, Transformers, Littest Pet Shop (For the merchanidse) are picked via application process. For an artist, it's the equivalent of a seasonal job. The longer you stay on a show, the more a studio is obliged to pay you.
