From what I heard, over 500 employees we locked out of the building.

Nobody told them about the liquidation and they were notified that there paychecks were delayed due to a glitch in the system.

Arc was responsible for Thomas and Friends so if you like trains then it's a loss.

If you consider your area being flooded by established talent, "dodged a bullet", then by all means be relieved.

Really though, sucks for those guys that lost there job, hope new studios come in or start up soon.

fug I hadn't thought of it that way. Looks like I'm fucked either way, thanks Canadian Obama.
>>
>>85102172
This was going on way before Tumblr Trudeau came in. Arc was not only hiring massive talent in a short time but they were taking talent from other studios, thus overpaying them. They were even set to move into a new building this year, from what my friends tell me the CEO was an ex-dreamworks head who didn't understand the return vs what he was spending.

Just a reminder that she and the other 11 international engines aren't returning to the show after the great race and that they didn't appear because of pc, but for the fact that the the plot of the special was at a railway show.

Try to ignore the fat cat OP movie and focus on the big picture. Arc was formerly known as Starz Entertainment. Starz Inc. (formerly Encore Media Group (1991–2001), Starz Encore Group (2001–2004), Starz Entertainment Group (2004–2009), and Liberty Starz (2009–2013)
On June 30, 2016, Lionsgate agreed to acquire Starz Inc. for $4.4 billion in cash and stock.
In April 2011, the Starz Animation was sold to a Canadian consortium, and renamed itself to Arc Productions. Who was the Consortium?
On August 1, 2016, Arc Productions announced that they were filing for bankruptcy. What was in their ownership portfolio by then? What about possible connections to the Nova Scotia based DHX Media?
Doesn't this mean that there are a lot of intellectual property rights and series ownership rights all up for grabs now?
>>
>>85108916
Looking though this page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arc_Productions

I don't think there's much. I doubt Starz owned the copyright on any of these.
>>
>>85093230

According to the Cartoon Brew news:
The studio also contributed the production of many series, including the popular Thomas & Friends television and direct-to-video series, Marvel and LEGO animated specials like LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled!, Disney Channel’s Elena of Avalor, and Netflix’s upcoming Tarzan and Jane series.
-
They were involved with Disney, Marvel, and Netflix productions, so there must be something going on that a) wasn't updated or b) they wanted to keep quiet until completion- and after. Therefore there must be more that we don't know about. Who tells the public everything?
>>
>>85109563
Speaking of copyrights as I was, though, I don't think they produced anything independently.

An example would be how Nelvana made and owns Rock n Rule (out dated reference I know, sry)
>>
>>85094464
The model stuff in the first few years was more interesting anyways.
>>
>>85109595
No, that's exactly what I mean. It's not what they did independently, it's what assets they own, what they package-bought and merger-owned.
Nelvana was bought, and folded into, Corus Entertainment. On January 13, 2016, Corus announced that it would "acquire" Shaw Media for $2.65 billion; the company consisted of the assets of the former Canwest, including the over-the-air Global Television Network and other specialty channels. The CRTC considered the transaction to be a reorganization of the assets of JR Shaw rather than an outright acquisition, because Corus and Shaw share effective control via Shaw and his family. This exempted Corus from the CRTC tangible benefits policy and scrutiny surrounding concentration of media ownership, as the CRTC already regarded Corus and Shaw as being a single entity for regulatory purposes.
-
All these Canadian animation companies are all connected to each other. This Arc closure is either a hole punched in the middle of the net or a clever move that we won't know the full ninja-like extent of.
>>
>>85109660
It's still a shame that the animators of the new good era went under, their cgi was amazing and combined with the good storytelling, this made most episodes amazing

It is commonly believed that those new international engines were new engines on sodor and were introduced for political correctness, however, the reason they were introduced was because a railway show was happening in the UK, and engines from all over the world are arriving to compete in competitions there. They aren't owned by the fat controller, neither do they work on sodor.
