Not sure if this helps, but if you use a 5x5 grid numbered 0-4, and you count branches as row and knots as column, your only possible letters are for no knots (AFLQV) or one knot (BGMRW). If we are limited to those, maybe we can work backwards to find better combinations of letters that will match a location.

Yeah, but like I said. Very rough. Just found a javascript version of the code through google and threw it together to work with what I already have.

You put your 25 character alphabet in what was the vigenere key slot, it will encode/decode based on that. If you want to make it numbers, you can do A1Z26. You could also do it backwards from numbers to text but you have to have single digit numbers only.

Codeanon here. Tried running all my initial output of the polybius through the vignere cipher for PINES, HANDS, MASON, with both J and I missing from the table. All gibberish. I'll try reversing the order of the branches and repeating.

I can try more code words later too but it'd be better if we had a solid lead on key so it doesnt feel like so much guess work.

If you're trying to get two numbers out of each tree you're looking at being trapped in a 2x2 grid in the upper left-hand corner, with letters A,B, F, and G (the highest amount of features one tree has is 3 items).
