This was the problem the new show had. People flipped out over Kermit saying hell in the first episode and so after that point, the only people who were still watching were people who were already big Muppet fans. Had they made the show for Disney Channel and took out some of the adult themes, it probably would've gone over better. I can't imagine people who watch ABC on a regular basis caring about Muppets.

The New Muppet Show, written by Roger Langridge and those guys who wrote The Muppets. Guests stars are mix of whoever the kids are into these days, and famous old people who need the money and/or think it'd be neat. Same as the first time.

Or have Disney buy out the Henson Company and put them in charge of Muppets again seeing as the Henson Company has been coasting on mo-cap CGI shows for PBS and licensing out the Creature Shop/Fraggle stuff while failing to actually make new films ever since they sold the Muppets to Disney.

Jim was in the process of selling to Disney, but was adamant about them never getting Sesame Street. He wanted CTW to get full custody. But otherwise, Jim was gonna sell everything else to Disney so he had the burden of running the company off his shoulders and he could perform more again and additionally, he was going to be Disney's big creative consultant and propped up as the new Walt Disney much like John Lasseter was after Pixar got bought out.

Then he died and the deal fell apart. Though Disney and the Henson Company did a few projects together, they eventually parted ways and in the late 90s, they were bought out by a German group called EM.TV but they didn't know what the fuck to do with them. The Henson family was able to buy the company back and they sold the Muppets and Bear in the Big Blue House to Disney, gave Sesame to CTW like their father wanted, and decided to focus on adult-oriented puppetry stuff like that Puppet Up improv show and further developing digital puppetry for stuff like Sid the Science Kid and Dinosaur Train. Problem is that's not a good business plan for them.
