2 hours lads.

Will it be better received than BvS? Worse? About the same? Post your guess ITT

How booked are your theaters BTW? I wanted to check AMC but it looks like it's sold out for the weekend where I live.
>>
Probably better, seems more of a crowd pleaser. Though there is a resistance among a lot of film critics to its seemingly too self serious brand of irreverence.
>>

>How booked are your theaters BTW? I wanted to check AMC but it looks like it's sold out for the weekend where I live.

Empty, actually... but the presales started today so who knows.
>>
>>85070349
I really hope the final edit isn't WB just trying to make more jewbucks from another "ultimate" cut on bluray

I'd rather see the director's vision whether it's good or bad (Snyder)
>>
been looking over all the twitter reactions on reddit

here is a summary
>its a really entertaining movie and a lot of "fun" - something MOS/BvS weren't (according to these tweets)
>average scores/impressions seem to be between 7-8.5/10; 1 or 2 negative or disappointed reactions, plus usual over-hyped viewers treating it like its the greatest thing ever
>fast paced, but sometimes too fast paced; major character get solid arcs though
>primary villain is average, but serves the plot well
>Leto's joker is divisive. Some love, others not as much. Some just making comparisons to Ledger. Regardless he apparently isn't in it enough to gauge how good or bad of a joker he is; Ive seen more positive than negative though
>Margot Robbie and Will Smith are clear standouts and steal the show but almost every character has there moments
>Its DC's best film in a long time and the best DCEU film (miles ahead of MOS/BvS)
>Soundtrack is killer
>Crowd-pleaser through and through

Im predicting a 75% RT score, similar to Cinemablend's prediction. Also Drew Mcweeny, Scott Weinberg, Jeff Sneider, Justin Kroll, Thompson, and Mark Hughes, have all reported positive buzz about Suicide Squad last few days. These are the same critics who heard negative things for BvS before release
>>
>>85070468

Not to praise Leto (because we still need to see his performance) but if you're standard for judging a Joker is Ledger then youre opinion is immediately discarded. Love the guy, but far from the best incarnation. If anything we need something that falls between him and Nicholson

Seeing a lot of it in the early reviews though.

"This joker didn't really scream evil genius to me"

The events they're responding to start at night. Next we see them assembling the squad, then the squad outside Midway at sundown. The rest of the movie takes place at night, supposedly three days after the initial incident. Not the worst issue in the world, but not great.

As for pacing, much like the time given to each squad member, it felt very unbalanced.

Yeah bro, flawlessly making the movie look like it'a done in a single take is something everyone can do. Especially in the world of Hollywood where there are 8 cuts per minute.

>>
>>85072317
The reality is BvS was pretty good. It was just so wildly different then the Marvel, FoX-Men films that it never had a chance. There's no need to even go down the "ppl r stupid" road. People were not expecting such a macabre film. They expected something like Cap 3, and instead they got fucking Excalibur.

Granted WB fucked up big time by not forcing the 3hr cut. the Ultimate Edition was deff way better, minus the editing fuck up at the funeral. It literally went:
Funeral>Bruce Diana talk off to the side of the funeral>bats terrorizes Luthor>cut to Bruce walking away from the funeral then more funeral
Bad editing there.

Anyways BvS Ultimate is really a peak cape flick like Winter Soldier, Unbreakable, Guardians, DoFP.

I am hoping Squad is as good as those films. It took a long time, but I am finally acclimated to the casting choices. The aesthetics never bothered me, I mean hell look at the Assault on Arkham designs.
>>
>>85072808
They mention offhandedly about the Bat bringing him in, buts unclear what laws he actually broke

>>85072870
The weird cold open where we meet Deadshot and Harley followed by the Waller at Dinner framing device for the intro montage that was too long bothered me mostly. And the soundtrack was good but they basically blow it's load in the first half, and the second half is basically all score. But yeah, not as bad as theatrical BvS, but worse than Ultimate BvS.
>>
>>85072885
>Meme word.
That's not an argument, it's an actual word. "attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed.". There you go.

>Yeah bro, flawlessly making the movie look like it'a done in a single take is something everyone can do.
Except they didn't they abandoned it 30 mins in and even in that time they used people walking in front of the camera or the camera panning behind an object to reset the scene. Also, what was the point? Why use that film technique? How did that help them tell the story? It didn't, they just tried to show off and they didn't pull it off.

>It was deceptive at best in its advertising
The trailers showed a massive portion of his delusions as if it was actual content. To be clear, they blew the budget on a dream sequence just to put it in the trailer.

>They're more interesting than any character in a superhero film in the past 5 years.
That's not an argument.

Honest review! Just back from the premiere. I liked Joker, but there was something wrong with Harley. She wasn't anything like she was from the 90s cartoon when I was a kid! They showed her skin for some reason and as a gentleman, I believe less is MORE! I also liked that they turned Deadshot black and let him date the white guy. This is actually just like a lot of my erotic fan fictions.

It wasn't Marvel level of quality, but DC are getting there.
>>

>14%

>>
>>85072916
>The reality is BvS was pretty good.
But as a movie? Look, I liked it, but I love DC stuff so a lot of things I enjoyed were simple nostolgia pokes.

As a movie it was really poorly put together. 2 acts of exposition, weak character arcs, poor scene transitions (beach -> africa -> metropolis) (batcave -> future -> speedforce -> daily planet). Lois existed purely for exposition and then took a right turn to damsel in distress. Conveying imagery or parallels took precedent over logic or sense (lady of the lake required Lois to drown herself for no real reason).

I can go on, as a movie, it was awful. As a DC fanfic, it was pretty good.
>>
>>85072966
I think it was on par with ult BvS. I think it had the same problems as Deadpool where some jokes and dialogue was really forced and the main plot was pretty cliche. I honestly think it's the best DC film since TDK.
>>
>>85072990

Your delusional if you think people went into BvS with an open mind, yourselves included.

Yeah man I can't believe I had never even heard about it until post BvS. It was a good movie. idk y but I love finding older films that hold up well. Like Jaws or the Godfather. I especially enjoy in older films how silent moments can be vs the sensory overload of modern films. I attribute it to a post MTV society, which is really funny because I love Snyder's films and he's a fucking trained in the art of music vids haha.

Excalibur was awesome though, I love films with two flawed protagonists.
>>
>>85073290
This.
BvS had potential to be undisputable masterpiece. It could be next DK, but better, because it didn't struggled with "muh realsim" and had superior material to work with. Damn shame first appearence of two iconic superheroes on big screen will be associated with edgygrimdark shit and MARTHA thing.

Does anybody else want to go to theaters and protest against this movie? I think we've got time to start a movement to scare people off from seeing this piece of shit.

If this movie makes money it will do more damage to cinema than Michael Bay movies. We can't let every movie become an edgy shitfest and we need to make sure Damage Control never makes another movie.

I was thinking we could make signs that say things like "MOMS GONNA FREAK" and take pictures of edgy teens going to see it for public internet shaming. If we can make sure people are too embarrassed to go see it we can do a lot of damage.

>That's not an argument
Yeah it is. Randomly calling something "pretentious" doesn't mean anything. Hence it's a meme word.

>Except they didn't they abandoned it 30 mins in and even in that time they used people walking in front of the camera or the camera panning behind an object to reset the scene.
How are these negative things?

> Also, what was the point? Why use that film technique?
Keaton wanted to go into theatre to revitalize his career. The single-take look is meant to be much like a play and how they're done all at once with stage lights, stage exits and closing curtains to change scenes.

>It didn't, they just tried to show off and they didn't pull it off.
Some neckbeard on 4chan's opinion against the Academy giving it Best Director and Best Cinematography. I'm sure you have more merit.

>The trailers showed a massive portion of his delusions as if it was actual content. To be clear, they blew the budget on a dream sequence just to put it in the trailer.
It's pretty clear those are dream sequences and it's not advertising itself as a real superhero flick. Maybe you're just a retard? Did the tentacle monster in James Gunn's Super trailers get you "hyped" too?

>That's not an argument.
Learn what an argument is.

I found it to be less "by the numbers" than most Marvel fare, and Super hero fare at that. In fact that is the biggest reason i wasn't the "SKWAD" to succeed. Avengers and JL are great and all, but i am more interested in stuff like GOTG and SS and hope they lead to stuff like Outsiders, Doom Patrol and maybe NextWave movies getting made.

Since stuff like this tends to have lesser known characters ( as far as mainstream goes) they can take more chances and do more original or off kilter shit with them.

hehe you just walked into my ruse.

See. You read the comics. You know this stuff, a LOT of stuff wasn't introduced in the movie, it was just placed there. This was exceptionally jarring to your regular film goer. You can't have an unintroduced character time travel back from an unintroduced timeline fighting unintroduced creatures to deliver a message. You can't have the main title fight broken up by someone you don't know opening emails showing off more people you don't know. It's jarring, it doesn't flow. People weren't watching that and thinking "okay, Cyborg is now reacting to the motherbox, okay now the speed force is causing time to flicker near batman". They are thinking what the fuck is going on and why are we now reading emails even though batman and superman are standing on a roof angry at each other.

The lead-up to the scene fails in virtually every respect. But the scene itself fails by Superman using the name “Martha.” It's terribly forced and makes no sense at all. Snyder only needed Superman to say Martha because otherwise the scene wouldn't work.

Why would he use her name and not say, “Save my mom”? Why would asking Batman to save a mother from death not carry the same weight?
Also, there's no reason for Superman to believe the word “Martha” would have any impact on Batman, while mentioning a mother could, because (in theory) everyone has a mother.
Martha only works because Snyder needs it to, not because it does. And that's why it's rightly mocked.

But I think the whole thing falls down when Superman fails to simply ask Batman for his help to save his mother, and when Batman threatens, Superman mo ves in to fight/be harmed rather than fly above until Batman calms down. But if Superman didn't do that, we wouldn't have been able to see a kewl, X-Treme bad-ass fight!

"It's glorious, and if it ruined your childhood, sorry bro."

"Ghostbusters is a gleeful shut-down of the online naysayers who were so offended by the idea that women could fight ghosts."

"It's funny, and nuanced in its funniness: hehs to haaaaaaas to lols."

"I was never bored with it..."

It's not a shock that Superman has a mother (and before you say it's supposed to be Martha's name that makes him stop, it's actually Lois Lane's "it's his mommy" that makes Bruce stop). He mentioned Superman's parents before killing him.

He's screaming like Eddie Redmayne did in Jupiter Ascending. And let me see if I can find that scene afterward where he "forgives" Superman, Affleck does not make it convincing.
>>
>>85074928
eh if you try hard enough you can always find a so called "deeper" meaning like we can see with people making BvS infographs.

Still this movie is a satire of the biggest order only america would invade a country, kill a bunch of people and then make a movie about the "hero". But then again this movie will be seen as an interesting take on propaganda along the Pride of nation.

>"Suicide Squad" features a killer soundtrack and one of the most promising of ensemble casts, only for its execution to fail. It simply doesn't handle the large assortment of characters well, with only a few obvious highlights stealing the show from the much less-interesting other members, who falter in their limited screentime, secondary backstories and shoe-horned contributions to saving the world. It's disappointing such striking visuals are wasted on a colourless plot and bland action. Death by boredom.

Martha's name makes him stop. Lois' intervention convinces him to stop for good. If Lois had run in yelling "He has a mother, he has a mother!", Superman would have died. It's the combination of the two which defused the situation.

It is completely acceptable to have an unknown character show up from the future in a genre dedicated to setting up sequels.

Hell it is a staple of comics. Like remember Cable? Or fuck just plain old Walter West is a perfect example. IIRC he even was in a fucking JLA issue.

Anyways comic movies using storytelling techniques from comics is a good thing.

The entire JL sequence from BvS was a PERFECT homage to how comics tease up coming storylines.

What?

>Why would Superman wanting to save someone be surprising to Batman after complaining about Clark Kent writing about Superman every-time he saved someone?
Because at that point Bruce had basically projected the personality of "unassailable alien god" onto Clark.

>He clearly still going to kill him before Lane showed up.
Yes, but he stopped.

>That's what happened.
That's not what happened. First Clark said Martha. THEN Lois ran in and explained the name. It wasn't just Lois running in. Bruce had to STOP first, and then Lois could run in and defuse the situation. That's how fights work.

>"Will Smith is clearly having fun playing Deadshot. Of course he’s going to get the best lines of the film because his delivery is so perfect, he might as well have just made them up. He doesn’t disappear into the role, more like sculpt the character to resemble his personality"

In other words, it's Will Smith playing Will Smith, yet again.

>"A few characters I wish had a little bit more development here, but the spotlight ones are a cinematic joyride!"

In other words, don't expect much from the support cast.

>"Jared Leto as the Joker, it’s a small role, but his appearances definitely does change the electricity in the room. This feels like more of a “comic book” version of the character, but a nice departure from the “realistic” approach that Heath Ledger created."

Ledger's Joker is considered realistic, now?

>It’s not a perfect movie. There’s a little bit of some pacing issues as the “Squad” is heading out to their mission. Also, as with most comic book movies, the villains here could have been a little stronger, character wise. That is a minor quibble, because everything else is so on point, when they get to the good stuff, you are along for the ride.

So it's a movie that feels rough, with a boring antagonist.
>>
>>85075744
What? Movies have no strict structure. Like since the dawn of film there have been films that end with dead men's eyes opening, hands coming from the ground, etc.

It is fine to suggest sequel material in films, just because it is a gimmick does not make it bad.

Anyways I'm done. You can't even concede that modern capeshit is nothing but commercials for sequels and bigger ensemble event films. This is dumb

There is a difference between ending with someones eyes opening (aka an already established character doing something) or hands coming from the ground. As long as that thing doesn't climb out of the ground and start interacting with people in a way that implies we should what it is.

The fact that you were unaware of the term yet somehow confident enough to try and talk down actual film critics doesn't exactly give weight to your opinion.

From this one periscope stream I watched. The dude said they cut out some Joker clips. We don't have the Harley motorbike/pointing a gun at Joker scene. & Harley willingly falls into the chemical vat instead of being pushed by Joker.

Because they don't package it as dealing a blow to the evil white patriarchal strawman, nor are they taking a traditional white and/or male cast and turning it black and/or female for no explicable reason other than the aforementioned.

It isn't the presence of women or black people in leading roles that sets the most critics of regressive works off. It's this narrative that tries to explain everything regarding black people and women in terms of white men oppressing them, complete with its often factually inaccurate (1 in 5) and muddy (um, well you see, something bad happened a hundred years ago, and that's why people who are alive today are oppressed! Fill in the gaps yourself!) explanations. Th regressive movies are in turn made to appease this bullshit, which makes them a part of the problem. The accusations of racism and misogyny aimed at the critics have generally been the result of the regressive left plugging their ears to the actual detailed and well thought out arguments regarding the issue, instead tackling only the low hanging fruit. Probably because every time they've started listening to said arguments, they've had to shut their minds down before they were forced to admit to themselves how full of holes and hypocritical their own arguments are.

The fact that the anti-feminists aren't jumping all over Suicide Squad should clue you in. Indeed, examples of popular movies with female and/or black leads are often brought up as one of the counter-points that people use to explain to the regressives how their description of society and the problem at hand are both inaccurate. This movie is likely about to be added to the list.

>nb4 screencaps of tweet reviews of SuicideSquad
Or am I too late?

Give the shit a rest /co/. Going on positive or negative tweets from critics before embargo lifts are bullshit. Positive ones are tainted by star struck critics who got shoulder touched by Katana or got the chance to smell Margot Robbie's vagina stink via Will Smith's finger in one of those big red carpet movie premiers. Negative tweets are just critics wanting to play it safe because it's easier to say "shit sucks" at everything because you're less likely to eat your words versus "It was great!" Atleast if a film does get positive reception, critics can fallback to "That wasn't the version I seen!"

>The lead-up to the scene fails in virtually every respect.

There were tons of scenes leading up showing Batman obsession about his parents death, specially his mom, and Batman's mental state.

>But the scene itself fails by Superman using the name “Martha.”
>Why would he use her name and not say, “Save my mom”? Why would asking Batman to save a mother from death not carry the same weight?
>Also, there's no reason for Superman to believe the word “Martha” would have any impact on Batman
>But I think the whole thing falls down when Superman fails to simply ask Batman for his help to save his mother

Superman knew that Batman gave no fucks about his parents, probably thinking they were aliens too, and Superman knew Batman's real identity. The "Martha" was used to get at Batman and the reason Batman was so distressed was because he wanted to know why Superman said that name and also because Superman reminded of his father during his last moments.

>It's terribly forced and makes no sense at all.

I just explained it to you. See, that's why i don't take most opinions seriously about this movie. It's like the people most vocal about it's flaws never actually watched the goddamn movie.
>>
>>85078793
The reviewers themselves decide if it counts as a positive or not. It's why you can see middle scores like 2.5/5 in both fresh and rotten reviews
>>
>>85075030

Batman only started to see Superman differently after his death. Him saving Superman's mom was done more for selfish reasons.

To be honest, the e-mail had a set up.

Lex Luthor had a meta-human thesis where he thought that there were people other than Superman with powers running around. He went to meet with the senators from the anti-Superman committee precisely because he wanted to get their support to create a think-thank against these people.

Batman hacked Lex Luthor servers and got the information Lex had on these people, along with information about Superman.

Batman was interested in Wonder Woman's curiosity about the files, since she had stolen it before giving it back to him after not being able to decrypt the files.

Batman was about to fight Superman when he looked on the files and found about the other meta-humans, including Wonder Woman, something that was knew to him. He then send WW an e-mail with the files interrogating and threatening her.

This made WW get scare and attempt to flee the country.

So it wasn't just a scene forced in there without any set-up and it made sense in the grander plot.

Green Room isn't about dudes with colorful costumes and super-powers.

That's the problem with DC movies. Warner Bros is trying to make "serious" movies within a genre that is too fantastical and infantile.
