OK, what do you mean by this? They're all characters. Do they represent different facets of human nature more than any other comic with a large cast?

Greed, shyness, hunger

You know?

I don't know if I can agree exactly. Those aren't specifically human emotions (they also associate with at least a rat in this), many of the characters aren't so flat or easily templated, and hunger is a universal struggle for most of characters. I think that's only true for this as it's true for like, Lord of the Flies.

>>85060910
Do you think? Like the little impish manipulative guy, and the two princesses, and the useless prince? That seems complex to map to aspects of a child's personality.

I think that maybe these are the stories the girl was told when she was alive, and what happens to them is sort of how these stories and their messages break down in light of her death.

Is it implied that the man in the cabin murdered the real girl?
>>
Dan have you storytimed Lady Killer? Thought that might be a good one sometime with the writer signing a DC exclusive recently and people being interested in what her work is like.
>>
>>85062052
Not really. A lot of people assume either that or she was his daughter.
>>
>>85062052
No. The general consensus is that she ate random mushrooms like an idiot and they were poisonous. He might be related to her though.
>>
>>85062075
I've got it on my list, I'll bump it up if you want.
>>
>>85062052
I think it's a reading you can make. The broken doll is significant, also Jane and Aurora's differing reactions to him (Jane appears older, physically, right?) When the man is shown doing anything, it's always destroying something - taking apart a mechanism, skinning a rabbit, burning paper.

The only thing even close to sex in this is >>85061475 which says something too.

Whether or not that is what happened is just a reading though.
>>
>>85062052
that was my thought when he first appeared but nothing actually implies he did it? it seems like hes just a random dude living in a cabin
>>
>>85062052
>>85062092

I'm in the Dad/Daughter camp. I think, as stated, each little person represented part of the girl's personality. Jane (her independence) would innately dislike her father, while Aurora (love) would be innately be drawn to him.
>>
>>85062043
That story's so sweet, I like how the cute fairy-girl gets rid of the femboy and all the bitch fairies and gets herself a nice white republican husband.
>>
>>85062356
I imagined this taking place in Europe. So I don't see the republican thing.
>>
>>85061643
>>85061666
>>85061803
The numerous half finished wine bottles and cigarettes strewn throughout the house coupled with the doll/dollhouse clock reinforce the theory that the man is a father coping with the loss of his child.

>>85061587
>>85061961

Additionally he seems to spend his free time fiddling with what may possibly be the clock, especially since it appears to be broken. But then again he never appears to move it so who knows.
>>
>>85062485
Maybe the daughter really liked the clock and he is trying to fix it, like a metaphor for him fixing his life.
>>
>>85062149

I've not been around /co/ long but you're good people Dan, I can tell.

Also yeah put me in the camp of she ate mushrooms and died. The page moves like molasses on mobile but isn't there a page which says "we can't eat mushrooms, we know some of them are poisonous" or something? Implies it heavily I think.
>>
>>85062699
I wouldn't go that far, I'm just some guy.

Off topic, but has anyone scanned a comic called Fantasy Sports by Sam Bosma? I got it from the library and could probably knock it out.

I also got a Hitler manga by Shigeru Mizuki, but that's like 200+ pages, so I'll do that some other time when I can get a copy to own.

I like the idea that they were the stories she had been told as a child who then took on a life of her own when she died. Many of them appear at first literally crawling out of her head and a lot of them seem mappable to character archetypes of more common fables:

>Humble and kind princess
>Vain and horrible fake princess/usurper
>Well-meaning but ultimately useless prince
>Selfish trickster who can't be trusted
>Fools/non-entities whose deaths are meant to educate children about real dangers.

Then the story ends with the good kind princess locking the wicked fake and her evil minions in a fireplace to be burned alive off-screen. The back-page blurb calls it an anti-fairy tale and that sounds about right: "Here's how those stories would play in the real world".

Will look into more stuff the creator has done.
>>
>>85064352

>>

Because she's beautiful. To kids, beauty means goodness, so they think she is good no matter what.

>>
>>85061766
>>85075035
>>85075178
>>85075435

I'm thinking they might have gotten her by surprise. I picture her trying to warn them to stop and the others looking bored or something while one of them (the guy in the beetle armor, maybe? I can't recall his name at the moment) sneaks around to her back and then runs her through with his spear. Maybe he noticed Zelie admiring the bird and took it upon himself to get it for his "princess" to earn her praise or maybe she whispered/gestured to him that she wanted it.

I just imagine that the whole ordeal was a complete surprise to Jane and that the worst of it was over quickly. Otherwise she could have easily escaped them.

They weren't the smartest bunch,, so I just assume she got fed up with trying to warn them and fucked off to somewhere else and left the bird behind. It's not like she never ran out on Aurora before.
>>
>>85093516
>suddenly disappearing without Aurora, the steed she worked to tame, and the shelter that she had established for the winter
Sadly I think the implications are less than pleasant...
>>
>>85093949
Well if they were all going to barge on and ruin things anyway, there was really no point in staying. Besides, none of them had anything to kill with, and the only murders they committed were due to negligence, since the MC was the one who actually killed Mr. Mouse
>>
>>85060981
>this is my schlicking arm

>>85094578

Pilm and that other boy had spears. >>85061766

But like someone else said, there wasn't any blood on the weapon. They might not even be able to use them properly.

It's possible Jane left because she couldn't force them to leave, and she figured they'd just act like idiots and attract the attention of the giant.
>>
>>85063419
That's clearly a Mononoke reference, right?

I saw them as competing desires. The less they were satisfied, the more powerful they became by being forced to think outside their programming and use their environment. When she stopped being a child, many of them simply died, and more obscure ones rose in prominence. The ones who took competition seriously owned the end game, the desires for love, adoration and independence. Adoration had a really strong game by promising to satisfy other desires by proxy, but couldn't stand up to both independence and love, especially since the latter is what the girl named as her self.

What did the fly mean? Why did Aurora cry when she saw it?

Remember that she is very small. "Far from the camp" could just be a stone's throw away for a regular sized person.

>>85080068

Zelie is basically like a douchey kid from middle school. The kind that would pick on and make fun of lamer students. To other kids seeing this, they find the bully kid entertaining to be with to be with. At this point, the bully has his own little gang, and can use them to more effectively bully people.

Also, she's noticeably larger than the other people, who are pretty childlike, so they might look at her as a mother or big sister figure.

>>85115550

What sins did Timothy have? All we see her doing is hiding because she was rightly afraid of others' reactions to her, and take care of an abandoned babby. Timothy did nothing wrong.

I think that if you subscribe to the father daughter and the little people being aspects of the child's personality/nature theories it's important to note the significance of Aurora being the last alive and with the father.

Even though Aurora (love) has become hardened, bitter, and jaded she still retains her core quality. Her being the last one alive could be some kind of symbolism for the father coming to terms with the death of his daughter. Even if he's become hardened and bitter his love for his daughter will always remain, even after memories of her quirks and faults may have faded.

Those mouse ears seem mighty familiar, and Aurora the princess, eh?
>>
>>85118809
Death and decay. She's sad that she lost her host or her life, if one intepret the tiny ones as the remnants of the girl's soul.
>>
>>85060381
....wtf?
>>
>>85118809
I agree with >>85122678 considering how heavy handed they are with the visual imagery of decay. I'd guess she's reached her breaking point and the fly being a symbol of everything happening around her she finally gets overwhelmed. Or it could be the fly prompts a realization of the true nature of her situation, and that's why she goes full Rambo to stay ahead of the game
>>
>>85060605
Wait, so is she the dead girl?
>>
>>85123098

Wait, why did he(?) take that berry when he was offered some a while back?
>>
>>85123493
He's probably trying to look tough to impress her. Plus he'a kid, kids don't know what they want.
>>
>>85119407
>What sins did Timothy have?
He was obliged to love himself enough to defend his own life. He promised the baby. But he didn't even try.
>>
>>85121173
Aurora was always going to survive. She's not a simple desire like the others. She's the superego. The girl named her after herself because she is what she imagined a woman ought to be. If any of them is love it's Zelie: a child's notion of love is acquiring caregivers.
>>
>>85124395
She's definitely the core aspect of the girl. The super ego is most likely Jane since she was the one that knew how to be responsible and survive on her own.
>>
>>85124689
Jane was the ego. She took care of herself while trying to make moral decisions. She dragged Aurora into the real world, and did everything practical to escape or at least temper Zelie's mad unchecked greed, but wasn't up to the task on her own.

What's so awful about this comic?
>>
>>85124988
Read it and find out. It doesn't take long.
>>
>>85111694
>>85105562
Well I'll be, a big fan of the comic but this is entirely new to me. I remember all the speculation over the girl's death, but I never saw falling from a tree as the reason.
>>
>>85124813
It's been long since I read about Freud theory but isn't the super ego suppose to be the driving force of an individual's ideals that was taught from a parental figure/techer in the subconcious? Aurora seems to rely on Jane when ever she's in a pin. Jane seems like a mother figure to her and she's the oldest of the creatures.
>>
>>85124264
Yup. Timothy just rolled over and died when told to despite having another life dependent on him.
Jane just fucked off immediately and made no attempts to prevent things from escalating the way they did.
Everyone fucked up at least a little.
>>
>>85124988
It's, uh, in the thread. The thread you supposedly read.

Thanks for the storytime Dan, never even heard of this book until now.

You're one of the few reasons I still bother checking up on /co/.
>>
>>85125135
The superego represents the highest ideals, while the id represents base desires. The ego works to reconcile them, or chooses sides against a third. Which is what happened to Jane.
>>
>>85126000
A better question, is it in English and in a torrent somewhere?
>>
>>85124395
I dont buy that Aurora was that much more special then the others, let alone the super ego. At best I'll wager the original Aurora's most defining trait was love, which tiny Aurora clearly shows the most out of everyone before going nuclear. I doubt there even is a super ego, their all varying parts of a whole. And Zelie certainly isnt love even by a childs standards, shes much more likely adoration, greed, or vanity.

I handnt interpreted that page that way, to me it seemed like her plans for a nice tea party with Hector got ruined by the room they where in becoming mush. You might be right however, but Im more for the tiny people are personality/human nature fragments then characters big Aurora made up

Out of the ones I've read, I recommend:

>Kairos
>Anya's Ghost
>Beautiful Darkness
>Beauty
>Miss Don't Touch Me
>Sabertooth Swordsman
>Darkwing Duck
>D&D
>Ghostopolis
>JtHM
>Orc Stain

I recommend starting with Orc Stain. The artwork is awesome, pic related.

the man had a gun and didnt they find a bullet in the girl? my guess is the man killed that girl. he was even shown walking in the vicinity of the girl, probably checking on her composing body

I enjoyed Beauty's art style immensely just the way it was. The muddy colour palette on that page you used as an example doesn't help matters much.

Go fuck your brown lolis somewhere else, Misha.
>>
>>85133682
Beauty and Miss Don't Touch Me both had Hubert as the writer, but Beautiful Darkness had someone else writing. I think it suffered a little for that.
>>
This reminds me a lot of the Water-Babies, but instead of the main character undergoing a metamorphosis and having to learn how to be good in the process, you have the main character (explicitly named after a dead girl and coming from her head) gaining the experience to survive in a cruel and capricious real life. Like a cynical inversion on the Victorian-style morality tale. It's about growing up, loss of innocence, blah blah, you've got tiny Aurora (big Aurora reborn) facing the absurd cruelties of humanity and becoming a version of herself that can survive it.

Also, interesting how Zelie's (and the corpse girl's) design look so much like porcelain dolls. Like, >>85062167, I don't think highlighting the broken doll in the cabin was an accident either.
>>
>>85061803

I'm guessing that's when Aurora snapped.

I'm not sure. Notice that the background on the preceding pages was white nothingness.

I suspect that this was actually the moments of Real Girl Aurora's death, when the fairies were catapulted into the real, physical world. "This isn't how things were supposed to turn out" could even be dismay that Real Girl Aurora is dying so young rather than growing up as she's supposed to.

There was also a crack in her head. Your head doesn't crack from eating a mushroom.
