The CGI rendering might've not been great, but the actual character animation still holds up well. Mainframe knew how to make characters emote and move well. Its a shame people can't separate the two. Sure they don't have shadows most of the time, but an emotional speech was handled with total care and facial expressions where done well especially considering they where based on toy designs where everyone was snarling.

Cheetor was meant to be the Bumblebee/HotShot/Hot Rod of the team, and I love that by season 2 the writers just stopped playing that shit. In Season 1 he has all the "Young one learns a valuable lesson episode". In season 2, they just humiliate him and make him a total spaz when they aren't outright ignoring him. Energon overloads make him fart, he constantly gets blasted and overwhelmed by random hits, and when they attack the Predacon base, he has to be pushed out and ends up knocking himself out with his own rocket jets. Its great.

What's funnier still is that, if you ever had the Transmetal cheetor toy, you'll see there's a little heart design on his navel. Hasbro wanted this to be his "Hero heart", whichwould glow only time he learned a lesson or did a good deed. I can only imagine the writers room when they where presented(and firmly ignored) such a hokey concept. Season 2 is the best season,and it has no cheetor lesson episodes.

Rattrap became my favorite character after re-watching it a few years back.Its rare that a character like him gets portrayed in such a light. Most shows would just make him the butt and show him always being wrong. Its clear that the writers liked using him. After all, its a toy commercial at its hear, and he was a $5 toy, yet he got more time and characterization than most.

Pragmatic as he was, he'd still risk his neck for a teammate. He might think and idea was stupid or unlikely, but he'd still go through with it. and when he got to lead, he was totally effective and clever. I like his friendships with all other Maximals, he forms the core of the cast. One thing I really like was when he implied he knew about Silverbolt sneaking off to see Blackarachnia. suspicious and paranoid as he could get, I liked how he just regards the whole thing as just Silverbolt being young and dumb rather than a straight up traitor. It shows he had some sort of faith in him and regarded him as an actual friend.

He got completely rebuilt. In the comics, he could already talk like a regular Transformer, and the show writers got a lot of reference to the comcis because they could find comic issues pretty easily(this was the 90's and all, and renting a bunch of VHSs was way more cumbersome and hard to do than just watching G1 episodes on youtube). Plus not having much of a personality in G1 gave them much more leeway to use Ravage than most other characters.
