Because he needs him alive, not dead. There was a parallel between Flash's old drinking habits and his addictive nature to the symbiote just a few issues ago. Flash is an addict, though this series is downplaying it a lot in comparison to Remender's. His realization that Venom isn't healthy for him at all is probably why he'll let it go at the end of Space Knight.

That's mostly true. But very, very recently, he's shown the symbiote a lot more friendship and respect in Venom: Space Knight (I'm talking within the last 2 or 3 issues).
