There were a lot of Peridot episodes where he outright tried to murder Steven and the Gems while frantically trying to reestablish contact the the big scary Homeworld before she had her face turn. This is only the second time we've seen Jasper since all that shit went down, and she acted more like a jealous ex than anything else.

If there is a Jasper redemption arc, it appears to be happening a lot quicker than Peridot's.

She had most of the power in the fusion and was trying to keep Jasper down all the time.

I genuinely liked the episode, it wasn't a very deep exploration of Lapis's guilt complex over her past actions but I liked that she and Jasper have been left with some connection over things.

It's clear Jasper has only changed her mind about Fusion, an particularly about submitting to a will greater than her own. She learned something about herself but seeks it in a wy that is still indicative of her own brutish and might makes right attitude. Whether or not she has any loyalty to home world anymore remains to be seen, and she is yet unaware if their assumptions that she has turned traitor.

Will we get a glimpse at the Diamond Weapon when we see her corruption, or will she corrupt over her own from obsession?

I really like what this episode is setting up for later episodes. It's easy to see why on homeworld why fusion is taboo if it turns loyal high ranking soldiers into shameless fusion junkies.

Plus we learned quite a bit with Lapis. Not wanting to be put in charge of something is probably tied into what she was doing on earth to begin with, and apparently how much of a monster that both Jasper and Lapis thinks she is.

No, but as I see it I think their general emotional spectrum lends it self to this behavior. If we were to go by the court having pink diamond back then it would go something like this in my mind:

pinks: first contact and recon, if the planet is sufficiently advanced bond with the locals. This is why the pink gems have a lot of support type powers. Or it's how this looks anyway. If they really did destroy pink diamond or rose is PD and all the reddish gems were of her court it would make sense that they're the more emotional ones. As they have to deal with the support/infiltration. When PD was destroyed the red gems got folded in the other troops.

yellow: footsoldiers/technicians yellow is the bulk force they send after the pinks to get the planet ready. they build shit, the technicians (blue and yellow make green)
being more able to handle higher functions centipeedle was a confirmed builder and IT tech type. peridot is another tech based gem who is green. They seem to have qualities of both general color types. They quash the local flora and fauna and move in the planet proper and probably work to take all the supplies out of the planet.

blue: probably get sent in after the yellow. They look to be more powerful but rarer types that have odder powers. They might get sent in for heavier hitters. But as it looks blue gems are more calm and generally manipulative. Dealing with inter court to ground control talk, and being more cerebral. Like the logistics crew. Probably are the link to white diamond. They seem to not emote as much, or have problems exhibiting "healthy" emotions. Sapphire before meeting everyone was literally cold. Blue pearl looked depressed. Blue diamond was clearly very passive aggressive. Lapis is trying to get better, but as she said. She liked taking out her frustrations on someone, she's depressed. and she doesnt think she deserves anything.

I feel like this was a mutually abusive sort of relationship. Jasper and Lapis bring out the worst in each other.

With Lapis, Jasper gets a taste of things like their enormous combined power and the ability to fly, and her discipline erodes to be replaced by an addiction to how powerful she feels being fused; something the Crystal Gems have already been through as one of the dangerous aspects of fusing. She's willing to hurt and isolate Lapis if it means she can hold onto how powerful she feels when they're together, and troublingly she's willing to BE hurt by Lapis if the alternative is being weak without her.

With Jasper, Lapis has someone to take out her pain and frustration on; really, when the fusion is initiated, Jasper is badly outnumbered and Lapis is right next to the source of her power. Malachite being trapped at the bottom of the sea wasn't just some heroic gesture to protect Steven; it was Lapis taking revenge on her captor and enjoying being the jailer instead of the prisoner for once. Being with Jasper brings out a sadistic, controlling streak in Lapis that frightens and disgusts her when they're apart; she hates the person she is when she's with Jasper but she still misses what they had and freely admits she enjoyed hurting Jasper as an outlet for her own pain and anger.

Main thing, as I see it, is Lapis had a positive relationship in her friendship with Steven to recover and move away from the person she is with Jasper after they unfused. Jasper, however, has no one on this planet, and so there is nothing to distract from her desperate need to be with Lapis again or give her clarity that her desperation isn't healthy and that what she and Lapis do to each other when they're together is bad for both of them.
