my dad stopped letting me watch cartoons on my tenth birthday. Now that I live own I can watch all the stuff I missed from 2004 to now. What did I miss /co/?

Pic related. My favorite show so far
>>
What else did your father do to you?

Don't worry, this is a safe space.
>>
>>84882846
nothing. He was just super strict when it came to things like videogames and cartoons. He stopped letting me play videogames at 14
>>
>>84882872
the fuck. There's strict and then there's stupid.
>>
>>84882825
Netflix is now the only company that can manage making cartoons worth watching.
>>
>>84882932
eh it is what it is.
>>
>>84882825
You should fight your dad for literally stealing your youth

Then slit your own wrists for letting him.
>>
>>84883000
I don't really think that's justified. I can enjoy them now and it's not like I didn't have youth.
>>
Mmmkay, shit from 2004-present that you should watch / play.
Hmm.
Okay. Ground rule: if you dislike a cartoon after the first two episodes, you can freely drop it. No guilt. Life's too short, Y'know? Also: legitimate continuity and character development in a cartoon is a fairly new thing, so we'll let you know if whatever we recommend is legit better over the long haul due to advancing plot, okay?

So: let's start with Disney:. They're going through a second cinematic Renaissance right now, including Pixar's works such as The Incredibles, Up, Ratatouille, and Wall-E are pretty much a given. The Toy Story franchise surprisingly gets better in each outing, though we all have our apprehension about the announced 4th film. On the princess side of things, Tangled, The Princess and the Frog, and Frozen, despite it's overexposure, are all strong recommends. Hell, zootopia, despite being the source of all future furry fetishes, 2016 edition, is an excellent film and you should definitely see it while it's still in theatres.

Good start?

Moral Orel is a requirement for this board

I thought it was first 3?

>What did I miss /co/?
Oh jeez, twelve years of stuff. Fuck, that's a lot of stuff.
Uh what kind of genres of things are you into?
>>
>>84882825
>>84884133
Also are you more interested in cartoon shows or animated movies?

still working, just posting what I have so far for you:

Star Wars: Clone Wars - by Genndy Tartakovsky, made up of bunch of shorts, it is an action packed sci-fi.

Megas XLR - action/comedy that parodies the giant robot anime genre. A beloved gem on /co/

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends - sitcom about an adoption house for imaginary friends. check out the pilot movie, then the series. It has its ups and downs, and is remembered pretty fondly, though it's is mostly loved by people who waifu Frankie nowadays.

Camp Lazlo - kids attend a summer camp. created by the guy who made Rocko's Modern Life. It's ok; nothing great.

My Gym Partner's a Monkey - sitcom about a boy in a school for animals. lots of gross out humor. it's ok.

Ben 10 - Very interesting action series. Sort of like Dial H for Hero meets scifi. High reccomendation. Also has a few sequel series, check out if you like Ben 10.

Class of 3000 - interesting musical show that didn't last. check it out if into hip-hip/rap/jazz/r&b or Andre 3000

Chowder - sitcom about surreal world where a boy is a chef's apprentice. A lot of now-known talent has come from this and Flapjack

Transformers: Animated - it's transformers. animated. it's cool if you're into transformers.

Ben 10: Alien Force - ben is older now and the art style has changed to a bit more "realism'. it and UA are a bit polarzing in terms of people liking Ben 10.

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack - surreal show about a failure pirate and his boy ward. very funny.

The Secret Saturdays - a team of superscientists hunt cryptids and try to stop the evil Dr Argos. Very johnny quest feel. it's pretty good.

Ben 10: Ultimate Alien: see Ben 10: Alien Force

Generator Rex: an interesting action show about a post apocylyptic world and secret government agencies. feels very MIB meets Resident Evil
>>
>>84884750

Sym-Bionic Titan - an sitcom with action elements. Very slow burn, but damn it has some great payoff. Aliens flee their home planet and land on earth and try to blend in while avoiding the government, a dictator bent on killing them, giant monsters and high school drama. and then it was canceled. You'll still see it mentioned if you ask /co/ what shows they would like to bring back.

Ben 10: Omniverse - return to a more stylized art and very funny. most love it, though some do hate it. Again, check out if you've like Ben 10

Adventure Time - about a boy adventurer and his dog in a kooky fantasy world. long series now that has gone through a lot of changes in tone. people really like the early seasons 1-3 and a lot after is hit or miss.

Regular Show - a surreallist comedy about two dudes who work at a park. same thing about AT applies here.

The Amazing World of Gumball - surreal comedy about mixed media cartoon characters. it's interesting to say the least. I like it, but i wouldn't say it's a must see.
>>
>>84884763
mostly doing stuff that premiered in 2004 onward, but i'll go back and write down some stuff that premiered before then but continued airing during that time.
>>
>>84882825
Gravity Falls has the superior animation and Stan is a good character but Steven universe has the superior lore and incredible scenery porn.
>>
>>84884822
don't state shit like that like its fact. its your opinion and that's cool. Rec threads are usually nice on /co/ though, so let's keep this from devolving into a shit flinging war.
>>
>>84884763
The Batman - an action show take on a stighltly younger Bruce Wayne. It's pretty decent.

Ozzy & Drix - spin off series about Osmosis Jones. it's ok.

Justice League - extremely well like and well done show. it has some problems but it is a must watch as well as it's sequel JLU.

Justice League: Unlimited - see above

Code Lyoko - action sitcom about kids who stop a computer virus bent on taking over the world. involves 3d segments. Gets a very intensive plot later on, but I could easily see someone dropping it beforehand. The 1st season is very monster of the week.

IGPX - an anime produced by Cartoon Network and Production IG. it's a future world where the hip sport is rollerderby/mixed with giant robots. includes 2 series; a microseries of 5 episodes and a full 20 episode series loosely related to the microseries.

Xiaolin Showdown - you like mystical kung fu type stuff? this will be your jam. a group of monks battle against an evil boy genius to gather mystic artifacts called shen gong wu.

6teen - a sitcom about teenagers that takes place inside a mall. notable only in my opinion for marking a shift in demographics at the time.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold - it's about the silver age shenanigans of batman and company. extremely funny. top reccomnedation.

Total Drama - a Survivor styled parody with some funny humor (includes some gross out humor). Has a few sequel series that are sometimes interesting. This one is interesting because if you don't like the show because of the characters, you can move on to next season when a lot of new characters replace others like a game show.

Johnny Test - the 1st season is passable. everything *whipcrack* else is *whipcrack* pretty garbage *whipcrack*. watch only if you're into torturing yourself

You should not watch that garbage.
>>

>>84885224
this is what I meant.

>>84884996
Thundercats - yeah they made a reboot in 2011. The first two episodes were amazing and then the writing plummeted into boring trash. watch if interested in Thundercats.

Young Justice - a series about the sidekicks and proteges of DC heroes on their own team. Has a weird plot, but the animation and design are mostly good. Check out if you like superhero stuff.

The Looney Tunes Show - a sitcom about Looney Tunes characters. It's decently funny and most jokes work, but when jokes fall flat, they fucking die. It's a good show though and should be checked out at least.

Spongebob Squarepants - great series. a must watch. Watch up until the movie then drop like hot garbage, because basically the whole writing staff was replaced and the show plummetted in quality

The Fairly OddParents - early on has some very funny humor, but it is a zombie of a show now.

Hey Arnold - a sitcom about kids living in the Bronx. Very well loved. top reccomendation.

CatDog - it's... interesting. surreal/some gross out humor. pretty much the entire cast is an asshole or an idiot though so that may be a turnoff

The Wild Thornberrys - sitcom about a family traveling the world for a nature documentary. notable only because the dad, Nigel has been memed to death

Rocket Power - a series about preteens and EXTREME sports like rollerblading, skatboarding, surfing, etc. People claim it's very 90s but it begain airing in 1999.

As Told by Ginger - a sitcom/teen drama. better than you might think.
>>
>>84885268
Over the Garden Wall - a surreal miniseries about 2 brothers who get lost in the woods and try to get home with a style that harkens back to the 1920s/30s. very beautifully done. highly recommend.

Steven Universe - I like it but as you can see in this thread, it's divisive. Plot is about a boy who carries the lineage of his alien mom and struggles to fill her place. He is helped along by the Crystal Gems - a group of warriors who fight monsters. Despite the action-y sounding premise - it is a very introspective show dealing with emotions.

Invader Zim - i'll be honest, I never watched this one. A lot people love it, but a large portion of those people are girls who shop at hot topic.

ChalkZone - a neat series about a chalkworld that could get pretty creative at times. overall, it's ok though.

My Life as a Teenage Robot - a teen sitcom about a robot girl/superhero that also wants to fit in at high school. it's pretty good.

Danny Phantom - a teenage boy gains ghost powers due to a machine built by his superscientist parents and becomes a semi-superhero. highly reccomended.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - just watch it. the plot is too long for me to summarize well. Top reccomendation

El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera - a pretty decent show about a boy who comes from a family of superheroes AND supervillains. the creator went on to make the movie The Book of Life

Avatar: The Legend of Korra - very very very polarizing to fans of the original Avatar series. I really can't say more than that.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003) - a neat series worth watching I think if you like TMNT

TMNT (2012) - different in style but same as above.
>>
>>84885347

a warning dont judge steven universe on the episode beach city drift
it was a steaming pile of shit
>>
>>84882825
Drop that shit right the fuck now, it's only going to get downhill from where you're on. Instead watch shit like Samurai Jack, Wander Over Yonder, Megas XLR, Motorcity, Avatar, El Tigre, Chowder, Flapjack, Billy and Mandy, Over the Garden Wall, etc.
>>
>>84885347
The Weekenders - cozy show about friends hanging out on the weekends. funny and notable for actually having the characters change clothes from day to day.

Fillmore! - a sitcom styled after 70's cop shows that's about middle school hall monitors. very interesting. check it out.

Kim Possible - a sitcom about a cheerleader who also saves the world as an action hero. she's helped along by her bumbling but comedic and well meaning sidekick. half action show, half teen drama

Lilo & Stitch: The Series - it follows the movie. it's ok.

Dave the Barbarian - comedy about a wimpy barbarian. plenty of referential humor, slapstick, and some gross out humor. pretty decent.

American Dragon: Jake Long - an action sitcom about a boy who can become a dragon and must act as a mediator between the mortal world and the magical world. the 2nd season completely changed the artstyle and i think some of the staff due to budget cuts. it's neat i think.

Phineas and Ferb - wacky comedy about two boys doing insane things over summer break and their sister always trying to get them in trouble. it's decent to good.

Gravity Falls - you're already watching it, so enjoy.

Wander Over Yonder - a lovely show that just recently ended, sadly. Very nice animation syle and it was headed by Craig McKracken.

Motorcity - fantastic action show about a group of underground rebels fighting the totalitarian utopia for the freedom to live how they want. Based in detroit, this show has a heavy emphasis on cars, but you will easily enjoy it without needing to be a gearhead. Top Reccomendation.

Mickey Mouse Shorts - a series of new shorts about mickey and friends. Very great.

gonna go back and write out some more of the older stuff that started before 2004 but were airing during.
>>
>>84885592
oh also missed a recent one

Star Vs The Forces of Evil - it's a cute show about an interdimensional princess that lives on earth due to being punished for being so wreckless. Prominently features a lot of ship teasing. I like it, but I can easily see someone dropping it. I will say that it has very good ups when it's on point. they kept changing studios in the beginning so give this one a few more than 3 if you want to give it a chance.
>>
>>84882825
Why did your dad keep you from watching cartoons? Sports and studies?
>>
>>84885268

Why are you listing stuff that came out years before 2004?
>>
>>84885810
some of that stuff ended during or after 2004, and I figured it be nice to throw in some stuff if OP hadn't already heard of them or watch them.
>>
>>84885810
I had also asked what they liked and they didn't really give me much to go off of besides that they're currently watching GF, so I figure a wide-net approach would be good here.
>>
>>84885347
>Avatar: The Legend of Korra - very very very polarizing to fans of the original Avatar series. I really can't say more than that.

On /co/ maybe, most people think it was decent even if it wasn't as good as the original.
>>
>>84884464
beast wars sucks
>>
>>84885650
Dexter's Laboratory - a classic sitcom about a boy genius. comedy is almost always on point. top reccomendation

Johnny Bravo - A comedy about a smoothtalking macho man usually failing to pick up women with his aggressive approach, cheesy pickup lines, and beefheadedness. It's pretty decent

The Powerpuff Girls - an action show about 3 sweet little girls who are also superheroes and kick massive amounts of ass. the writing of this show is on point basically always. A must watch

Ed, Edd, & Eddy - a cozy sitcom about life in the suburbs. top reccomendation

Courage the Cowardly Dog - one of animations very few forays into the horror genre. Very well done atmospheric show. A must see

Sheep in the Big City - a VERY surreal show, about well... a sheep lives in this city and an army general wants to capture him to use him for his sheep powered laser gun. Involves a lot of sketch comedy.

Time Squad - a nerdy boy, a timecop, and a robot travel through time making sure things in history go as planned (like making sure Edgar Allen Poe isn't a sunshine and rainbows loving pansy)

Samurai Jack - LONG AGO IN A DISTANT LAND, AKU THE SHAPESHIFTING MASTER OF DARKNESS UNLEASHED AN UNSPEAKABLE EVIL, BUT A SAMURAI WARRIOR WEILDING A MAGGIC SWORD STEP FORTH TO OPPOSE HIM. BEFORE THE FINAL BLOW WAS STRUCK, AKU TORE OPEN A PORTAL AND FLUNG HIM INTO THE FUTURE WHERE AKU'S EVIL IS LAW. NOW THE SAMURAI SEEKS TO RETURN TO THE PAST AND UNDO THE FUTURE THAT IS AKU.

Codename: Kids Next Door - it's a kids try to stop the evil adult from ruining the fun things of childhood and youth (funny considering this thread). contains a lot of referential humor but is very good in it's own right. reccommended.

The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy - a retard of a boy and an evil little girl win a bet against the grim reaper and he is forced to be their friend for all eternity. shenanigans ensue. a very cynical comedy show. reccommended.

Kappa Mikey - an interesting show about a guy who gets to go to japan because of a contest. features a unique mix of animation styles (east vs west). The execution is mostly lacking for the show, but it had an interestiong premise. Maybe check out.

Spectacular Spider-Man - it's a spiderman show that's not Ultimate Spider-Man, so it's watchable.

The Venture Brothers - starts off as a satire of Johnny Quest, but became so much more and is a fantastic show. Only gets about an episode or 2 a year though.

King of the Hill - long running sitcom that handles characters very well. the humor is more on the dry side but it is very enjoyable

Clone High - it's a bizarre show to be sure but it's mostly funny

Fred's Head - a teen sitcom with a cynical outlook. very well done show and very underrated.

Ok I think I've gone over a huge swath of shows. anyone else want to jump in on things I missed?
