Gwen represents a hope for the future, but like most visions it's a flash with no substance. MJ much longer and varied character growth shows a transformation into adulthood and support. I've never really seen the appeal of Mary Jane. One day I am going to be a writer at Marvel Comics. And I am going to make a comic book that canonizes that there are multiple universes that are exactly like 616, with the only noticeable difference being Peter's marital status. In one, he is married to MJ. In another he's married to Gwen. In a third he has settled down with Felicia. In a fourth, Chat. So on and so forth.

But despite this major difference in each Peter's life, one thing between them will remain identical: the Dan Slotts and Joe Quesada of those universes will all be dead and buried.
