Honestly I feel like it's the opposite.
Lars has been shown again and again to be lonely and desperate for acceptance and attention. He and Sadie seem to go at least a bit back so she can probably see how sad he really is and he's probably opened up to her in some way so it may be that she's trying to "fix" him or at least be the one friend he actually has.


Lars is in some ways similar to Kevin.
While Kevin is a popular, attractive guy who has everything, no one likes him because he's a huge jerk.

Lars is pretty much the same except he sometimes is a cool guy and it's kind of plain to see that he's just desperate for attention and love.

I think it's really stretching to say it was a big theme in ALL the episodes this week but I definitely saw it too. Between Mr. Greg (where his meddling actually worked) and this (where it didn't) I think they're trying to show the potential for Steven to turn into a well-intentioned manipulator like his mother - I think the Steven/Rose parallel in Mr. Greg was supposed to work on a couple levels in that regard, I also think it probably goes hand in hand with the sudden growth in his Gem powers we've seen over the same few eps
