Then there's a set-up for the lesson Steven learns when Greg tells him to forget about Kevin, he's not worth thinking about.

The conflict is actualized when Steven ignores the advice and convinces Connie that they should beat Kevin at his own game (racing), and by the end of the episode Steven and Connie realize how much their feelings about Kevin has been controlling their actions and the pay-off for the advice that's been set-up previously is accomplished with the ending.

I don't understand what you're asking. How did they do a decent job of addressing the sexual subtext? The sexual subtext isn't in this episode, it was in a previous one. And in that previous one it was very easy to read into, because of the particular actions and where it took place (many people go to dance clubs for the purpose of hooking up). The intentions are clear without making it inappropriate with children. Like if you show a man in an unmarked van who "kidnaps" children by offering them candy. You know he buttfucks them but you don't actually say it and you don't need to, just acknowledging that there are people who present themselves and treat you that way are threatening is good enough.

Kevin was not the villain in that episode. Rewatch Alone Together. They were stressed out because they felt alone while fused, hence the title of the episode. This episode felt like an animated version of that "I AM SILLY" comic. It was hilariously bad, especially with how they have to make the main character so perfect that he can race someone effortlessly (barring emotional issues of course) even though he has never driven a car before.

Just finished watching the episode. How can Stevonnie drive so well when neither Steven nor Connie can drive? They're lucky they don't crash into a tree or drive off a cliff.

Because everything about it came out of nowhere. It's the equivalent to one of those boys vs girls episodes where everyone acts like biased assholes for no reason only for it to never be mentioned again. Nothing built up to this at all. Kevin was literally never mentioned again until now, and only now is he a problem. It was just a poor episode in general.

Steven is a emotional / musical genius. he has perfect pitch and can write songs in seconds. Yes, even on a show that can dabble in musical theater, his talent is genuine. unfortunately, he has no formal schooling, and also has limited external contact with the world... as a 14 year old boy, he's smart enough to know better, but not well educated, and he appears to possess no drive to self-educate. if he didn't have connie to elevate him, he'd probably grow up to be a "professional beach hunk", unemployable by anyone but his father, do-nothing, know-nothing, lazy and useless.

Connie is the product of a pair of brilliant parents with a vested interest in their offspring's scholastic performance and extracurricular activities. She has the formal education and the inherited intellect that, if not carefully managed, will crash and burn around age 21. if she didn't have Steven as a "release valve" she'd grow up to collapse in on herself, distance herself from her parents and working at some minimum wage job while living in a shitty two room apartment.
