Megg genuinely likes Owl, and she's actually normally pretty nice to him. But Megg also sort of adapts the worst qualities of the people around her, and when she's with Mogg she becomes a way huger asshole to Owl, and she doesn't even realize she's doing it.

Mogg's just utterly pathetic and a complete asshole, but deep down realizes he relies on Megg and Owl for literally every aspect of his life and is completely dependent on them, and gets pretty fucking distraught over the idea of change in anyway.

In summary: fuck Mogg, he is the cancer upon the three of them.

The story of MMO is a story of people in a fucking awful hole of a life.

There are no good guys and bad guys, and in situations like this, sympathy is just corrupted. Owl seems like the victim, but you can't really have sympathy for him. Why did he just sit back and accept getting raped? Why did he just take a video game as an apology for it?

These people are in a pit, a hole, a very dark place, and it's not just the drug use - the normalized abuse, the constant depression and ever-looming threat of suicide - it's an almost spiritual rot.

You feel good for Owl not because he's a good guy, or he's entirely sympathetic. You feel good for Owl because he escapes.

1. Biggest one, he's still in love with Megg since high school. Even aside from being in love with her, they are genuinely pretty close and good friends, she's not that shitty with him all the time

He still has a complex about being a loser loner who can't become popular or make friends, and this group, even though they all bully him and don't respect him, were the people he found a weird sort of acceptance with. They may look down on him and treat him like shit, but they at least embraced him, while everyone else essentially avoids him and puts up walls

3. He has a victim complex and needs to feel superior to people, and oh boy does he get plenty of that with these guys. He's the responsible put upon one who gets to nag at Megg and Mogg for not pulling their weight. He has the power, he has the high-ground (or at least in theory)

Booger was originally written as just a drag enthusiast, it's relatively recently that she started getting written as trans.

But she's actually one of the most realistic trans characters I've read. Which I think a lot of is the fact that she doesn't exist in the story for the sake of being trans. She exists as a friend who hangs out with Werewolf Jones and sometimes the main cast, like Mike, who happens to be trans as part of her character. And being trans is a realistic amount of her character, it's not all she is, but it still has a realistically big impact on her.

Same. WWJ, Booger, and Mike are all friends since high school. Mike's super passive and agreeable and can get along with everyone. Booger's laid back and doesn't give a shit, so she can actually be close to WWJ, and WWJ for all his insanity actually cares about her and respects her, which means a lot more to her deep down than it would for most other characters.

Then there's also Jack and Robot, who also hang out with those guys in a similar capacity to Mike and Booger hanging out with MM&O, so we only really see them tangentially, and then WWJ also has Dracula Jr. and that bear dude who he parties with.

All this stuff happens mostly off screen, and we only really see it from their interactions with MM&O, but they still very clearly have their own lives and stories going on in their own world.

Actually iirc Booger was originally imagined as a drag queen, not trans. The trans stuff wasn't established until somewhat recently. Given the age of that particular comic, it wouldn't be out of place for the cast to refer to Booger as a guy. However given that Booger is currently dating Megg, and assuming that they're not her kids, that only gives Booger like a years time to break up with her and have someone else's kids. So it'd pretty much have to refer to WWJ's.
This is all a bit messy, which is sort of a given when one of the earliest comics is dictating the current status quo. But WWJ has kids, and Booger probably doesnt, so it's probably fine to assume it explicitly refers to his.
