>mfw people tell me that earlier Simpsons had worse animation than the modern Simpsons
>>84557820
By worse, people mean jankier and uglier, not necessarily technically inferior.
Early Simpsons wasn't afraid to go off model and that have it such a nice look to it. It didn't last for too long, but it was only after the animation process became wholly digital did the animation (while more on model) become lifeless and robotic.
groening always hated how melty everything in that episode was
>>84557820
It didn't have worse animation; it had crappy design.
When the design of the show started to become consistent was when the writing also happen to get stronger, and that's what people remember.
>Bart just standing still not animated at all.
It was a bit overworked sometimes. Around season 4 is when they got the animation, both in terms of the quality of the drawings and the quality of the movement, to be more consistent.
>>84557885
Digital production doesn't mean the absence of hand-drawn animation. You don't have to use Flash or whatever.
>>84558021
Like the prophets once said.
>>84557820
To be fair, that bit was a remnant of the original version of this episode, which was sent back before airing and had like 80-90% of it reanimated. It was meant to be the first episode of the first season, but became the season finale because Groening and other major figures hated the way the original animation turned out.
Groening didn't want the show to look cartoony because it was sort of more "realistic" in the early seasons, and Brooks literally called the original version of that episode "shit."
I mean, I agree the animation looks good there and that seasons 1-3 or so looked more interesting than the show has since, but the show didn't look like that all the time in season 1 or even the rest of the aired version of that episode.
>>84558021
It's called a "hold". It's done all the time in animation, so stop nitpicking.
They probably just think it's looks ugly and has low resolution. Thats definition of word "animation" for them.
>>84558198
The other character is super animated but Bart is a statue and it never cuts to a new shot. It looks weird.
>>84558166
Hell, you can still use Flash even. It's got shit line quality, but it's still fine for frame-by-frame animation.
>>84557820
You know that this episode is the reason why the animation was toned down more, right?
However >>84557885 is right, while they wanted to have more "naturalistic" movements they never wanted to be stiff back then.
>>84558021
He's scared stiff.
>>84558450
How do you know that? It doesn't even show him below the waist.
It was better when they only had the occasional lavish David Silverman scenes
It makes the animation stick out more
>>84557820
That's some Damn fine animation with the guy on the left. Almost Disney realistic quality.
>>84557820
Yes, I too speak by bulging my eyes in and out of their sockets and opening my mouth as far as possible with every other word. A+ animation, well done CK.
>>84557820
I wish Bart fucked her.
>>84559102
>guy
>>84557820
I think that ties into the broader problem of people conflating art style with animation.
>>84557820
>nitpicking one scene
You do know that the rest of that episode wasn't animated nearly as well, right?
>>84557820
>Klasky Csupo vs. Film Roman
>forced animation
>good
>>84560188
Some people probably don't know what this refers to, but it means that the animators are forced to work at gunpoint and those who underperform are forced to play Russian roulette. Obviously forced animation isn't good and we shouldn't support it.
>>84560188
stop this meme
>>84559150
Film yourself while you're angry and talking to someone. You'll be surprised.
I understand that. Although the animation itself looks good, it's a bit over-animated in context.
>>84557820
I remember hoping that The Simpsons Movie would look like this.
>>84557820
I actually like "primitive designs"
Early Simpsons is beautiful, why does digital ruin everything?
>>84557916
>melty
It's called fluid.
>>84560188
>forced
The hell does that even mean?
>>84558619
When was the last time Fox paid for this level of gesticulation? I feel like it's been a long long long time.
>>84565302
>gesticulation
Sounds like a horrible medical problem.
>>84565341
It's a word used by people who can read at a high school level. Maybe that's why you've never seen it before.
>>84565437
I know what it fucking means you autistic sack of shit, I just pointed out how the way it's pronounced sounds like a medical disorder.

Dont bring anime into this. /co/ doesnt like anime
>>84558021
It's funnier when you see the full version of the scene. Bart quickly scoots back to the tv to put the vhs tape in while still facing the camera.

Because he's frozen in fear by the scary woman.
THAT'S
COMEDY!
>>84557820
>not knowing that episode's first cut was so bad they had to bump it back to the end of the season
>where they got to have extra time to work on the animation for that episode
Check the DVD of season 1 and watch the original cut next time.
>>84566844
Only the team thought it was bad, the animation itself wasn't.
>>84566274
>/co/ doesnt like anime
I wish this was true. Or maybe they're just the loud minority.
>>84566124
Stop acting like a little bitch. Someone called you out, accept it, learn from it, and get over it.

>>84557820
>more frames
>worst animation
More effort was put into that then the shit you see now.
>>84570617
That doesn't always mean better. While the animation posted is hardly bad, things can still look bad if the character is animated in a way that doesn't work with their style. A fairly good example is how the characters in the first American Tail were fairly realistic in their expressions, but the second film saw some (namely Tiger) pulling off extremely over the top expressions even though both films were animated in the same style. Granted, that example is debatable, it does illustrate the point that having more frames doesn't always make something better.
>>84568604
Why think that?
