It SHOULD have been Leo doing the killing and then getting super emo over it.
The way it happens in the comic feels like a huge cop out to keep Leo "pure" for sin.
Even though he totally killed some dude back in his micro.

Im just REALLY disappointed that Leo did not get "blood on his hand" during the whole Dark Leo phase.
At first it seemed like Shredder was saving that moment by not having Dark Leo kill anyone during the take overs.

So when the execution scene started I got hype, like "oh boy, time for that goody-two-shell to get thrown in the dirt".

But then they copped out but still have Leo angst over the whole thing like he was the one who cut the dudes head off.

They had there cake and ate it and I am still salty over that!

Then Koya show up and all was good again!

Also Shredder being a dumbass during Alopex's mirco.

He went down some pegs on my "best Shredders ever" list after that I tell yah.

IDW because it takes the best from a lot of previous versions and adds new stuff and characters. It's very well written and still good since the beginning. It's also a reboot so newcomers can read it and enjoy it without to have read everything else before.
Mirage is old school and serious (for the canon issues) some issues in the Volume 1 are made by guest and non canon, some are good others are not.
Archie first issues are goofy like the old cartoon but then it becomes really cool to read, it finds its own way and it's different from the cartoon.
Image is only Volume 3 and it's...special. It's gritty and violent but sometimes it's just too much so it's take it or leave it.

Yes if you want but keep in mind it was an indy comic and the comic didn't have the same audience than the cartoon so Eastman and Laird let other artists gave their visions of the characters. They launched a spin off as well (Tales of TMNT) and I think E&L were busy with all the merchandising deal. TMNT property remain independant until 2009. It's pretty unique in this industry.
