I thoroughly enjoyed this and will pick it up if there's any available. Out of all the HB comics I like this the best, partly because as an issue it can stand on its own.

Okay, that made me laugh out loud. This is fucking insane and I love it.

Yeah. That's what they parodied in the original cartoon, too - clubs for veterans.

I don't know why, but I find the fact that all of the guys, regardless of their social station are so ridiculously buff. I guess in a world where everything is made out of stone, you need to keep your strength up!

The Flintstones was a show made for adults to begin with. They were sponsored by a cigarette company during the original run. It's just a lot tamer compared to today's adult shows because you couldn't get away with as much back then.

There had been plenty of Flintstones specials and movies up until the 2000's. Most of them sucked.

Scooby-Doo is more popular and has more appeal to children, hence why he gets a new show every few years.

This is actually my favorite one. It's so evidently considered, and so much of it plays into the rest. In terms of writing, this may be one of my fave books this year

I wasn't planning on picking this uo, but....

Damn that was really good.

I like Be Cool, but don't agree at all that the mysteries are better. Also, how long is this show gonna be on hiatus? This and Wabbit has had no new episodes for a minute now
>>
>>84296704
For me the deciding factor that the mysteries always went on as very secondary to the myth-arc. That and the associated monsters were nothing memorable.
Something made worse in the second season.

The only really engaging one was the Freak.

I'm betting that; in the Jetsons series, we'll see some temporal shenanigans that will end up in the creation of the "modern stone age" of Bedrock. The Flintstones series heavily implies that the Bedrock civilisation is very recent, so recent that middle-aged adults grew up in traditional nomadic stone-age societies. Plus they're un-ironically depicting Bedrock as using english and names from modern times (or puns on names from modern times) which, while true to the original series, makes no goddamn sense if all of these comics take place in the same universe. I am betting that Bedrock will have come about in the first place because of time-travel and we'll see it in the Jetsons series.

>>84297444
Mr. Slate was the best part of the comic. Plus dude has mad gains.
>>
>>84298116
Theres a big difference between going from a 1960s level of technology to a level technology as seen in the Jetsons in 100 years and going from nomadic hunter-gatherer societies to some semblance of modernity within the lifetime of someone in their mid-40s. And that also doesn't explain the use of english or modern names.

Wilma's paintings are an attempt to communicate a feeling greater than the individual through pictures: they're art in the truest sense of the term. The contrast with pop art and Andy Warhol in particular is deliberate; even the dialogue in >>84295832 (in particular "Make it into a wallpaper, sweetie. We might buy some for our nursery") is making several points about the commercialization of art.

Wilma and Fred are both coming from a less developed, more chaotic, more dangerous but also more alive existence and are struggling with what they want and desire. Wilma is expressing herself through art but, along with Fred, is trying to buy objects to fill that void and get to where she imagines she should be - her dress, Fred's tie. You can contrast that with Mr. Slate and his treatment of everything as a commodity, and how he imagines this leaves a legacy but is left feeling empty - the final page is a pretty savage judgement on him.

This comic is making so many points and connecting them so intricately. You can say it's about consumerism but it's not just about that, it's about so many things and it still works as a family story. The flip from 'bad commercialized violence' with the veterans to 'good commercialized violence' in the fight is blunt, but there are lots of subtle elements too (there's a hint of physical cowardice with Mr. Slate, I think). The nascent society which itself is contrasted with savagery is a really interesting take too; it's something I think I can relate most to post-apocalyptic stuff in existing media, but obviously there's a lot colonial and class elements here as well. With all this it still succeeds as a comic: the art is good, lots of background details, the whole thing works at face value as a Flintstones story. And there's a real meta element to the fact this is a Flintstones comic, an iconic property from a big company bought from another big company that makes cartoons and comics for profit.

It's great.
>>

I still don't see what's so great about him. Just another lefty from Portland.

Do we know yet if Scooby Apocalypse will just have generic monsters, or will they bring in the Creeper/Space Kook/etc at some point? I'd love to see them work in elements of different eras of Scooby-Doo, like bring Scrappy in for a while, or have a joke issue with a pointless celebrity cameo, or bring in Vincent Van Ghoul or the Boo Brothers or some wacky shit like that.

Also a few of you have mentioned a Jetsons comic, where was this announced and how much do we know about it? Somebody mentioned time travel?

They haven't confirmed the classic monsters - but given that it's been described as "what if the original series happened now" there's the strong chance.
Scrappy was in #1. Apparently villain of the first arc too.

And Jim Lee and Dan Didio have said a Jetsons comic is in the works, but not officially announced.
It will be about the future and the use of time travel to fix the past ie. the post-apocalyptic shit.
