why is he so perfect bros?

seriously there is so much right with him, lets just talk about the flaws.

hard mode: no opinions on the costume

Andrew Garfield was superior in every way. The only problem was Sony.
>>
>>84286281

lol no

He was a good spidey but a shit peter paker
>>
>>84286281

his character was written to be a little too whiney. and peter parker should never be a rebel skater boi. came off as trying too hard to be cool.
>>
>>84286281
I agree that Andrew was GOAT, but at least give Tom a chance until his solo film.
>>
>>84286306
Agreed. His spidey charisma was spot on. But Holland can grow more into the role.
>>
>>84286281
He was far from it especially all that cringey shit he did as Peter
>>
>>84286281
He was the polar opposite of Tobey MacGuire
Shit Peter, GOAT Spidey
>>
>>84286317
But he was neither a rebel nor a sk8terboy.

Disobeying the principal after the principal is no longer around ain't badass. If that was the case then I'm the baddest kid this side of California.
>>
>>84286227
hes too perfect, too on point, too much like the peter of the comic books, HE NEVER GOT THE STARK GOLD ARMOR
>>
>>84286358
i hope he gets wedgied. spider-man films are missing the classic bullying that peter got. raimi spiderman got that part right
>>
>>84286281
Too much hair, his head was gigantic.
>>
>>84286227
Aunt May is too sexy.
They're gonna ruin the movie by focusing on high school drama bullshit instead of cool Spidey shenanigans.
>>
>>84286375
>Implying Tobey was a good Peter

Garfield so far has been the closest to the classic comics Peter. A bit of a douche who wises up and becomes a nice chad.
>>
>>84286281
He was a terrible Peter - just moped around and looked like he was more likely to hang out at a Hot Topic than the science fair.
He was good as Spider-Man though, that scene with the carjacker and the knife was gold.
>>
>>84286227
He didn't say the lines.
You know the ones
>>
>>84286227
Can you fuck off back to /tv/? He is not even a good version of the character, who has had a shitload of different incarnations, only a moviefag would consider this a "perfect" version of Spidey
>>
More of a personal gripe than anything, I HATE that he's not adult Peter.
>>
>>84286391
Wedgies are not a thing anymore, bro.
>>
>>84286391
Peter was never bullied beyond being verbally put down by Flash, the idea of Peter being this whiny stereotypical 60s nerd comes from the Raimi films.
>>
>>84286416
Hot Topic is for the edgy goth kids, bro.

Say whatever you want about Garfield's dress style, it wasn't edgy goth.
>>
>>84286424
He hasn't gotten there yet, this is MCU where everything has to built up which is why they got someone younger and lesser known
>>
>>84286404
Tobey was a great Peter, easily the best Spider man origin story we've gotten on-screen.
Problem was he was too cornball as Spider man and never became confident as Peter
>>
>>84286380
but wasn't peter a goody two-shoes? i didnt think he became a dick until after getting his powers
>>
>>84286456

No, he was a "I'm superior to everyone" kind of dick. A lot of the bullying he got was because he was very passive-agressive towards Flash and his crew.

Peter was the kind of kid that would end up a supervillain if he hadn't been responsability'd.

Andrew had more focus on reflexes
Tobey has more focus on strength

Fuck no, Tobey Peter was not beta, he was autistic as shit.
And he was forgettable at best as Spidey.

>Peter works in a newspaper.
>>
>>84286714
Also he's more about webs too, Tobey had organic webs and Andrew got his from Oscorp
>>
Tobey Maguire was a fucking terrible Peter Parker, and a terrible Spider-Man. Those movies seemed like they were stuck on Parker being a loser nerd, when really he wasn't that for all that long. After he got his powers, and went to college he came into his own, and got past the awkwardness real quick. In the 60's and 70's alone, he had dated Betty Brant, Glory Grant, Liz Allan, Deb Whitman, Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy, and Jean DeWolf. Tobey's Parker was a stuttering loser, and was basically stuck in pre-spiderbite personality. Parker in the comics was also kind of a dick, especially in the first 10-20 years.

Andrew Garfield's Peter seemed like he never had the awkward phase, and went straight to the cool Parker phase. His Spidey was a huge improvement, only because he actually joked and quipped.

Holland actually captures the spirit of Parker/Spider-Man perfectly. As Peter Parker he's intelligent, responsible, and a little shy and awkward AND there's an actual difference in how he acts when he's in costume and out of costume. Spidey cracks jokes because he's a teenager who's out of his league, who's nervous and probably a little scared, so he runs his mouth and cracks jokes to compensate.
Holland's eight minutes as Parker and Spidey captured the character so much better than the close to 5 hours of screen time that Tobey Maguire had, and better than Andrew Garfield managed in close to 4 hours of screen time.

It's very obvious that the previous writers of the Spider-Man films had a very poor or superficial understanding of the films. I think that having Marvel Studios in charge of the creative end of the Spider-Man films is the best thing that could happen to the character. Obviously Holland could be complete shit in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but I would bet that the movie will be better than every Spider-Man film except for Spider-Man 2.
>>
>>84286763
organic webs are shit. fuck you raimi.
he said he did it because "theres no way a high school kid could make web and shooters". so instead his body just produces a web that can only be shot when he makes some weird hand gesture that, in the context of that universe, makes no fucking sense? ok buddy

he had too much confidence as Peter Parker

Peter Parker on his own should be a basket case with depression issues and shit luck

only when he's spidey should he grow balls and be uppity
>>

It came out at a time when superhero films were big risks that many studios didn't want to take, so its success is often regarded as the reason cape films exist as they do today. Also, nostalgia.
>>
>>84286869
Maybe you're right, but I still like Tobey Peter.
His Spidey could be better, but I really like his Peter.

Peter Parker is suffering. And Tobey really got that going.
I really like the extreme dissonance between the two parts of himself.
That makes the sacrifice all the more poignant.

>Peter Parker on his own should be a basket case with depression issues and shit luck

80's Peter was a handsome alpha who spent his time when not beating up bad guys and struggling with money juggling the two hottest chicks in class while his alpha rich friends stood there gobblesmacked. He was also smooth as shit and rode a moped back when mopeds were cool.

Joe - Jameson
Linda - Betty Brant
Eddie - Brock

Relevant to the thread, Spider-Man's journey to movies.

>In 1985, Cannon Films attempted to produce the movie, directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Leslie Stevens, who misunderstood the concept and drafted a story about Peter Parker as ID badge photographer who is turned into a monstrous spider-like creature by a mad scientist building an army of monsters to conquer the world. Parker defeats the other monsters and then destroys the building, killing himself and the mad scientist.

>At Marvel's behest, the script was revised by Ted Newsom and John Brancato. In their draft, Peter is a college student under Otto Octavius' tutelage. An experiment gone wrong causes Octavius' mechanical arms to be fused to his spine, while Peter is bitten by a spider irradiated by the explosion. Adopting the identity of Spider-Man, Peter sets to stop Octavius from reproducing his experiment, which could destroy the entire world. Joseph Zito was hired to direct the movie.

>Tom Cruise, Charlie Sheen and John Cusack were approached to play Peter before stuntmant Scott Leva was cast. Bob Hoskins was approached to play Octavius, and Lauren Bacall and Katherine Hepburn were in talks to play Aunt May. Peter Cushing and Albert Caesar were set to play supporting characters Professor Solomon Rosomorf and NYPD Lieutenant Jake Marotta.

>The script was revised by Barney Cohen and Menahem Golan to reduce the budget and add more comedic elements. Octavius was given the catchphrase "Okey Dokey" and a bumbling assistant named Weiner who also killed Uncle Ben; Peter only swung once, prefering to take cabs or rides with other characters otherwise; and Moratta was removed while two other characters were added: College administrator Alexander Thorkel and Kim Dawson, Peter's sexpot colleage with a pet salamander she carries everywhere. Zito disagreed with the changes and dropped out, being briefly replaced by Albert Pyun before Cannon went bankrupt.

>Golan retained the rights under his new production company, 21st Century Pictures, and license them to Carolco Pictures. They tapped James Cameron to write and direct the movie. His script had a gritty tone, with Peter becoming Spider-Man and struggling with power and responsability as the battles Carlton Strand, a corrupt businessman with electromagnetic powers, and his enforcer Boyd, who can control sand, as they attempt to built a master race of super-humans to take over the world. Cameron envisioned Leonardo DiCaprio as Peter and Gloria Stuart as Aunt May.

>A contract mishap gave Cameron the power to decide who'd be credited for the movie, and he chose not to credit Golan, leading to a years-long legal battle that led to Carolco Pictures and 21st Century Pictures going bankrupt and selling the movie rights to Sony Pictures.

SPIDER-MAN (2002)

>Chris Columbus, Roland Emmerich, Tony Scott, Jan de Bont, Ang Lee, David Fincher, M. Night Shyamalan and Tim Burton were approached to direct the movie before Sam Raimi was hired.

>David Koepp wrote the first draft of the script, which was later revised by Scott Rosenberg and Alvin Sargent. Koepp's draft was notoriously campier and more melodramatic in line with the comic book movies of the 1990's.

>In Koepp's draft, Peter Parker and Harry Osborn are not friends, and Mary-Jane Watson has a crush on Harry. Peter and Harry eventually move in together so Aunt May can sublet Peter's room to help pay the bills, with the agreement Peter will help Harry with his studies. Harry is consumed by jealousy when Peter and MJ begin growing closer. Mary-Jane also has a younger brother who finds out Peter is Spider-Man.

>In Koepp's draft, Norman Osborn despises Harry and believes OsCorp will be ruined under his administration. He forces Harry to fire OsCorp's head scientist, Dr. Otto Octavius, whose designs OsCorp has stolen, causing an infuriated Octavius to lash out and cause an explosion that both fuses his mechanical arms to his spine and exposes Norman to a serum that turns him into the Green Goblin.

>In Koepp's draft, Norman's goal is to kill Harry to preserve OsCorp's future, and he later begins targeting Peter for stealing MJ from Harry, and MJ from choosing another man over Harry, which Norman views as an affront to the Osborn family. Octavius sees the Green Goblin using his designs and vows revenge against him, becoming Doctor Octopus.

>In Koepp's draft, the Green Goblin lures Peter, Harry and MJ into a trap at OsCorp Tower and attempts to kill them, but Peter manages to intervene as Spider-Man and save Harry. Doctor Octopus intervenes, forcing the Green Goblin to flee after kidnapping Mary-Jane. He attempts to throw her from the Brooklyn Bridge, but Spider-Man rescues her and knocks the Green Goblin off his glider. The Green Goblin is arrested and swears revenge on Spider-Man, Doctor Octopus swears revenge on Spider-Man for sparing the Green Goblin's life and Harry swears revenge on Spider-Man after seeing him kissing MJ.

>Rosenberg's and Sargent's revisions removed Doctor Octopus and refined the storyline, centering it on Peter's relationship with his surrogate fathers, Uncle Ben and Norman. Only two scenes from their drafts were removed from the movie: Peter rescuing hostages in a subway station, which is referenced in the movie, and Peter protecting Fargas, the wheelchair-bound OsCorp executive, during the Green Goblin's first attack.

>Freddie Prinze Jr. was Sony's top choice to play Peter, but Raimi believed he wasn't right for the role. Scott Speedman, Jay Rodan and James Franco auditioned before Tobey Maguire was cast. Franco was later cast as Harry.

>Kate Hudson was Sony's top choice to play MJ, but declined. Alicia Witt, Mena Suvari, Elisha Cuthbert and Eliza Dushku auditioned before Kirsten Dunst was cast.

>Nicolas Cage, John Malkovich and Robert De Niro were approached to play Norman Osborn before Willem Dafoe was cast.

>Hugh Jackman was approached to make a cameo appearance as Wolverine, but scheduling conflicts prevented it from happening.

SPIDER-MAN 2 (2004)

>Al Gough & Miles Millar and Michael Chabon wrote two alternative scripts, which were later combined by Raimi, Koepp and Sargent. Both drafts centered on Peter struggling with his responsabilities as he battles Doctor Octopus. Gough & Millar's draft also included Black Cat as an expert thief who attempts to entice Peter into abandoning his responsabilities and set up the Lizard for a potential sequel.

>In Chabon's draft, Otto Octavius is a handsome young scientist and the creator of the spider that bit Peter, to whom he provides with a microchip that can suppress his abilities. Octavius begins dating MJ, but spirals into insanity adter becoming addicted to the endorphins released into his system whenever he uses his mechanical arms. They're fused to his spine after a fight with Spider-Man, slowly killing him, and he becomes obsessed with using Spider-Man's spinal fluid to cure himself.

>In Chabon's draft, Harry also descends into paranoia, believing that Spider-Man is conspiring against him, and places a $10 million bounty on Spider-Man through the Daily Bugle, turning New York City against him. This, coupled with Octavius' accident and MJ's relationship with him, are what drives Peter to use the microchip to remove his powers, although he later has to slice it out with a butcher knife to become Spider-Man once again and stop Doctor Octopus.

>In Chabon's draft, Octavius realizes he's become a monster after MJ appeals to his humanity, and commits suicide in a collapsing building.

>Tobey Maguire injured his back while filming "Seabiscut" and demanded that shooting be delayed to accomodate his recovery, leading to tense negotiations with Sony in which he was nearly fired. Jake Gyllenhall had already been lined up to replace him before Maguire and Sony reached an agreement.

>Vincent D'Onofrio, Chris Cooper and Robert de Niro were approached to play Octavius before Alfred Molina was cast.

>Goblin: Gas randomly made him go crazy and evil
>Ock: Arms randomly made him go crazy and evil

SPIDER-MAN 3 (2007)

>Raimi and his brother, Ivan Raimi, wrote the first draft of the script, which was later revised by Sargent.

>In early drafts, Sandman and Vulture are the villains. Sandman is a reluctant criminal who accidentally killed Uncle Ben and uses his newfound powers to steal the money needed for his daughter's treatment, while Vulture is Sandman's former cellmate whom he breaks out of prison to help him defeat Spider-Man. Harry's descent into villainy is explored, but he only becomes the new Green Goblin as a stinger for a potential sequel.

>Sony demanded that Raimi add Venom and Gwen Stacy to the narrative and explore Harry as the New Goblin, forcing Raimi to remove the Vulture and change the movie's storyline from "Peter finds out good people can be criminals" to "Peter grapples with his dark side". The script became so complex that Sargent considered splitting it into two movies, but couldn't find a satisfying breaking point in the story.

>In early drafts, the symbiote would arrive on Earth in a space shuttle piloted by John Jameson, which would malfunction and nearly crash-land on Manhattan before Spider-Man intervenes and manages to divert it into the Hudson River, for which he is awarded the key to the city. The sequence was deemed too extenside and expensive and entirely scrapped.

>In early drafts, Eddie Brock's sociopathic tendencies are evidenced, with Peter learning that he has an extensive criminal record. Brock would also obsessively stalk Gwen and attempt to force his way into her house, claiming she told him she loved him, before being escorted out by Captain Stacy, and present himself as "the only righteous man in a world of sinners" during his rant at the church.

>In early drafts, Sandman would ambush Spider-Man once again at the construction site, before being interrupted by Captain George Stacy, who brings his wife and daughter into the site. Sandman learns that his daughter's conditional is terminal and there is no longer a cure, and is allowed by Spider-Man and Captain Stacy to escape and spend his daughter's final moments by her side.

>In early drafts, Harry's butler Bernard is revealed to a hallucination projected by Harry's subconscious to justify him betraying his father's memory by helping Peter. The scene was shot, but removed after test-audiences were confused by it.

>In early drafts, Gwen would've been kidnapped by Venom and Sandman, but scheduling conflicts forced Raimi to replace her with MJ although he didn't want MJ to be the damsel in distress once again.

>Ben Kingsley was approached to play the Vulture before the character was cut.

>Elisha Cuthbert and Scarlett Johansson were approached for Gwen Stacy before Bryce Dallas Howard was cast.

Tony Stark made Spider-Man out of Peter Parker. He's the one who made a full costume hero from a masked teenager famous on youtube.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2012)

>Sony greenlit SPIDER-MAN 4 for June 2011, with Raimi, Maguire, Dunst, Rosemary Harris and J.K. Simmons set to return, and John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway as the Vulture and Felicia Hardy. James Vanderbilt wrote the script, which was later revised by Steve Kloves, Gary Ross and David Lindsay-Abaire, but Raimi was not satisfied with the story and dropped out, leading to the project being scrapped.

>The latest draft of the script prior to Raimi's departure reportedly featued Peter Parker and Mary-Jane having a son, but with their relationship fractured by Peter's crimefighting activities. Peter ends up developing an affair with Felicia Hardy, the daughter of the Daily Bugle's new owner, Adrian Toomes, who is secretly planning to seize control of New York City's criminal underworld as the Vulture.

>Sony originally planned to complete Raimi's series with SPIDER-MAN 4 and SPIDER-MAN 5 before rebooting the franchise, as they believed Spider-Man is an inherently young character and Maguire was becoming too old to portray him. After Raimi's departure, they decided to move forward with a reboot written by Vanderbilt and later revised by Kloves, Sargent and Paul Feig, and Marc Webb was selected to direct.

>In early drafts, Peter learns that his father, Richard Parker, coded the venom of the genetically engineered spiders he's created to Peter's DNA to prevent it from being weaponized by OsCorp, for which him and his wife, Mary Parker, were assassinated. Although "The Untold Story" was one of the marketing campaign's major selling points, Sony was wary after fan backlash when the concept was leaked online and deleted all scenes referencing the idea.
>>

I wouldn't say I personally regard it highly, I think it's just the least shit of the Spider-Man films. Other people regard it as "the best superhero film ever" but that would speak more the quality of superhero films in general rather than that film in particular.

>In early drafts, Peter's high school classmates are more prominent. In addition to Gwen Stacy and Flash Thompson, there'd be Missy, an introverted nerdy girl who has a crush on Peter; and Ariel, Flash's manipulative girlfriend who attempts to seduce Peter once he becomes more popular after humilliating Flash in a basketball match. They both make brief appearances in the movie.

>In early drafts, Connors' relationship with his estranged ex-wife and son would receive more focus.

>In early drafts, Uncle Ben would be shot dead after chasing after the robber into a dark alley, mistakenly assuming he's Peter, causing the robber to panic and kill him.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (2014)

>Originally, Peter would find out Norman Osborn murdered his parents and engineered his accident to use his blood as a cure in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, and Norman would become the Green Goblin, leading to a vicious confrontation in which Gwen dies, in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3. However, Sony changed their plans in order to launch a cinematic universe built around the Sinister Six and condensed the Green Goblin storyline into one movie, replacing Norman with Harry Osborn.

>Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Jeff Pinkner wrote the script based on Vanderbilt's original idea.

>In early drafts, Mary-Jane Watson is present as Peter's neighbor, a skilled mechanic and waitress who lives with her abusive father and greatly admires Spider-Man. She helps Peter fix Aunt May's car, and Peter repays the favor by vising her father as Spider-Man and intimidating him into leaving MJ alone, and they establish a friendship.

>In early drafts, Peter meets J. Jonah Jameson and Robbie Robertson when he visits the Daily Bugle to discuss a staff job, during which he debates with Jameson on the validity of Spider-Man's methods. Spider-Man and Electro later fight throughout the Daily Bugle offices during their first encounter as Jameson decries them both.

>In early drafts, Max Dillon lives with his domineering, invalid mother. Upon returning home after his accident, he finds her celebrating the hush money she received from OsCorp to not report his disappearance, and demands she hugs him, but when she does, he accidentally electrocutes her, which causes him to snap and become Electro.

>In early drafts, Peter gives Harry his blood, which Harry believes can cure his condition, but it instead leaves Harry disfigured and drives him insane. He finds the weapon prototypes that Norman had stored in his secret laboratory and joins forces with Electro, who had escaped from Ravencroft Penitentiary in search of revenge, to destroy Spider-Man and OsCorp.

In early drafts, Aleksei Sytsevich is a brilliant engineer who creates the Rhino himself with Soviet-era weaponry acquired from the black market to enact revenge against Spider-Man.

>In early drafts, Felicia Hardy is an ambitious, manipulative OsCorp executive who develops a relationship with Harry and becomes his accomplice.

>In early drafts, OsCorp is stolen from Harry by Ratha, who is later killed by the Green Goblin. The symbiote created by Peter's father Richard Parker is also in OsCorp's storage. The Special Programs division storing the weapons of the Sinister Six is absent.

>In early drafts, Peter would beat Harry to an inch of his life after Gwen's death, but ultimately choose to spare him.

>In early drafts, it is revealed that Norman's head is preserved in suspended animation following his apparent death while his enforcer Gustav Fiers uses Harry's venom-enhanced DNA to clone a healthy younger body for Norman.

>In early drafts, Richard reveals himself to have survived the plane crash that allegedly killed him and observed Peter from afar to protect him from OsCorp. He comforts Peter after Gwen's death and encourages him to keep fighting as Spider-Man, reminding him that "with great powers come great responsabilities".

>Shailene Woodley was cast as MJ, but all of her scenes were cut, reportedly to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen's relationship.

>Webb wanted J.K. Simmons to return as Jameson, but Sony rejected the idea as they wanted a complete reboot from Raimi's movies. John Slattery and Sam Elliot were approached for the role before the character was cut.

>Damian Lewis was approached to play Electro before Jamie Foxx was cast.

>Alden Ehrenreich, Brady Corbet, Eddie Redmayne, Sam Claflin, Douglas Booth and Boyd Holbrook auditioned for Harry before Dane DeHaan was cast at Garfield's behest. Harry was originally envisioned as a "jock" in contrast to Peter being a geek.

I think we can all agree that Elfman's Spider-man theme has yet to be beaten

Hell no, it was awful and cringeworthy.

You don't, if you think that resembles Peter's humor in comics in any way beyond superficial. It's somewhat witty, quick and poisonous not fucking obnoxious.

To make everyone sorry they mocked him and that he would never be "weak" and limited again. He would show everyone how brilliant he is without limitations.

He was weird looking and even when Andrew is a good actor his version of spider-man was a shia from transformers

I find it a refreshing twist - Spider Man usually portrays Aunt May as old and frail, but through Tony's eyes...

I mean, think about your mom for a minute. How did you see her when you were young?

Garfield wasn't the closest to the peter from the comics.
Comic peter never took shit from Flash and always faced him, and he was confident and silent. Which made him ask girls no matter how much they rejected him. And the most important thing is that comic peter was responsable unlike garfield spider-man that wanted to leave aunt may to go with gwen. In the comics Gwen to live forna season on paris and peter accepted this and moved with his life, and started to know more about MJ.

You don't know much about Peter, don't you
>>
>>84286737
Nah. He is still iconic as the first mainstream spider-man. Which is more than what Garfield and his spider-man but to be fair Andrew has a nice record of movies so it's probably for the better of his career that his spider-man is forgotten
>>
I found Garfield to portray the young Spider-man aspects very well. The assholeish bravado and banter.

I found Tobey Mcguire to be a great older Peter, he was very good but an awful highschool Peter

I find the new guy to have potential to surpass them. I really love his Spider-man and his Peter was looking good too

Garfield's Peter faced Flash and stood his ground.

Also Sally Fields' Aunt May was a much younger, healthier and more capable. Enough to live alone.

No, they show him taking his contacts out and putting on Richard's glasses. After the bite, he doesn't wear them.
