Berserker is an ill suited class for most servants because they lose most of their skills in exchange for raw power. It's why despite the fact that Herakles was a beast under Berserker he's better suited under the Archer class. Really the only servant that I've seen be benefited from being summoned under serker is Jack the Reaper.

The game is rigged is why. Three main magi families made the cup and after failing a few times realized they would have to actually bother working together with other people so they added in some extra shitty classes with some bonuses to make them look halfway reasonable.
Assasin as an example would theoretically be a great class except it's setup so that it has to drop stealth before attacking while being weak enough that any halfway decent servant can wreck it's shit when stealth drops.

"Knight" is just a construct of the system, meaning one of the three best classes. The "knight" classes were made first and historically the three families (who always have a representative in the war) will grab them first.

Berserker is a trap, since a mindless servant that loses most of their special abilities in exchange for smashing power is half useless, and the mana drain to keep them running is more than most people can deal with.

Assassin is a trap because every advantage it holds is cancelled the moment it attempts to actually fight, and the stat adjustments on its ability to fight are so low that it's useless.

Caster is a trap because the best you can do with a Caster is to hole up somewhere, reinforce your defenses and try to turtle your way through the war. Which never works, because everyone always ends up making a team to tear into Caster's base.

Rider is the only half-decent class outside the knights, because the three families knew that they wanted a little insurance in case the didn't get a knight class.

But that's more or less meaningless because a lot of it depends on the hero you summon, anyway. Gilgamesh, and Hercules will always be top-tier summons.

The thing is that the requirement isn't so much that the soul be "pure", but rather it must have NO attachments to the previous world and must wish for nothing from the grail outside of serving it. Rulers serve as regulators of the Grail war and as such they must not want it since they're not allowed to "participate" per se. I'm pretty sure that Jack would want to go home if he was summoned in a state of self before he was able to do so.

Each class can be interpreted a dozen different ways, its not particular to Archer.

Rider = Summon something to ride on, or something similar at least.

Saber = Hit people with sharp object class

Lancer = Long thrusty stick class

Assassin = Stealthy sneaky

There are many berserkers, and Mad Enchant can be interrupted a dozen different ways depending on if you get lucky. Some berserkers retain skills, some berserkers have beastly fighting by nature, some berserkers can turn their berserker self on and off using some sort of switch like a magic potion, some berserkers can talk, some can only grunt. Some berserkers seem sane, but really they're double insane since their madness is EX rank, so while they seem normal at first, even a small conversation will tell you that this person has no internal logic and are dangerous like Joker.

Frankenstein and Dr.Jekyll are the types that can turn it on and off with a switch. Spartacus and Kiyohime are the types that are double insane. Lu Bu and Lancelot can only grunt, but retain some fighting skills. Heracles could originally speak somewhat normally as Berserker but his tongue was bound with a command seal, he broke this seal twice in the game. Tamamo Cat is a type that can talk somewhat normally. Kintoki and Beowulf have such low level madness that its not an impediment in their ability to fight or talk, at E rank.

There are other servants this class does suit; however this is a class that was meant for low level heroes to make them stronger than they were in life.

Low level madness doesn't buff you much, but it also doesn't impede you much at all, so it might be optimal at times.

Berserker is one of those misc classes like Rider, that they throw people into when they're not sure what else to do.

They are not harmed by the comas either, although their mana is drained a bit. After the war is over they are free to wake up again without permanent damage.

Ceasar ain't really badly off. He can still move with the best of them, and is agile despite his size. He still shows the ability of a trained general. The reason he looks differently than he did in statues and paintings, I think its implied that he's quite arrogant or deluded, so they simply painted him better looking in the images. He claims that the statue is surely how he looks right now, but you're just looking at him from the wrong angle at the moment.

Chances are the meta reason for making him look like this is to represent a bit of the imperialism and luxury of the Roman empire, the fat cat ruling class. A lot of the artists just have fun with the designs a bit rather than trying to get them exact.

Sometimes they add a bit of fanservice or humor to the design. Its not meant to be taken entirely serious.
