Nintendo's characters would be best served by something a bit more oddball and experimental. Their fiction isn't really fiction as much as gameplay oriented vignettes. So the comic should be more stylistic and self-contained than some sort of blown out exploration of intra-kingdom politics between turtles and fungi

They're like the Muppets, god dammit, not the fucking Game of Thrones cast or your stupid shared universe superhero crap stop trying to make continuity where there isn't none you shitty nerds

The crossovers were a giant fucking mess with too much in too little time. The first one isn't bad by any means, but the second promised way more than they had room to deliver on, and the got ate up in fees to use those characters according to most anons.

With the way Archie does business? God no. Nintendo was actually smart to opt out of that deal.

That said, even if Archie knew what they were doing as a company, the proposed writer Ian Flynn wouldn't make any heads turn with it. It basically would have been another Mega Man: Ian would start off strong, and then about 20 issues in he'd fizzle out and get bogged down by his own clumsy attempts at world building. But more than that, he just isn't that compelling of a writer and he relies far too heavily on fan service. And not even the fun kind. I fail to see how having him write for Mario's book would have faired any better.

Valiant did a good job so why not Archie

I have absolutely no faith that Archie would be able to do Zelda properly. They'd fuck up Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link. They might be able to do A Link to the Past decently. They wouldn't be able to do justice to Link's Awakening. They'd completely fuck up Ocarina, Majora, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. They'd just turn Skyward Sword into something like the Sonic comics. Oracle games, nope. Minish Cap, maybe. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, would be impossible.
