Where do I start? After the New 52 I stopped reading comics.

Rebirth is another reboot.
if you want to try the nu52 start with the #1's, same for rebirth.

Pick a random spot and start reading.

I picked up a cheap New52 GL trade just to get acquainted with the kind of pace and characterizations I'll be seeing.

No, everything that happened in the New 52 happened. They're just arding more classic elements.

Each new Rebirth line has a Rebirth special (Batman: Rebirth, Flash: Rebirth, etc.) that serves as a primer for new readers and sets up the current status quo. After that, the first #1 issues were just released over the last couple of weeks. Over the next couple months, they'll slowly be releasing new Rebirth specials and new #1s.

You're at the very beginning of the first wave still. Current Rebirth titles are Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lanterns, Titans and Action Comics and Detective Comics have returned to their original numbering.

I would read the early Flash (generally called Manabouch or something like that, after the two artists/writers) - the art work is really great, the stories range from decent to good.
