In the 1990s, legendary writer Paul Dini had a flourishing career writing the hugely popular BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES and TINY TOON ADVENTURES. Walking home one evening, he was jumped and viciously beaten within an inch of his life. His recovery process was arduous, hampered by the imagined antics of the villains he was writing for television including the Joker, Harley Quinn and the Penguin. But despite how bleak his circumstances were, or perhaps because of it, Dini also always imagined the Batman at his side, chivvying him along during his darkest moments.

Jesus Christ, this story is straight out of a cringe thread. This was a grown man with a career behaving like that? Taking girls out on dates multiple times being nothing more than a friendzone guy, when he's feeling bad he thinks of what girl he can call and calls harleys voice actor? Jesus

Considering Sorkin liked him enough to buy him a birthday present and come over when he was hurt, I'd say they were close enough that it was actually a smart decision.

Sorkin and Dini were friends before BTAS even started, that's why she ended up voicing the character he created. But go ahead and keep shitposting like a newfag.

>Really strange reading this. Makes me wonder about how many other people have gone through this type of situation.
2 years ago a friend of mine, who I love very much, died from cancer. It all happened so fast. One day we found out she had it and not very long after that she was gone.

For a couple of weeks after she died I was filled with this strange helpless feeling. For hours I'd just sit (or go walking when I couldn't stand not being busy) and think of all the ways she could have lived. Like how Batman or Superman, or some other superhero (or even a villain), would have come up with some technology or magic or alien device that would have cured the cancer and saved her.

It was a very weird time. Suddenly, I was 10 years old again wishing I was a superhero. Only this time it was so I could have saved my friend. It all left me feeling oddly empty inside because I know that's not how real life works.

A tale of /pol/ being /pol/. I thought you'd be busy getting triggered over the new SamCap.
>>
I really needed this OP, thanks for posting. I'm in the midst of one of my worst manic depressive episodes. I was going to spend all day in bed forcing myself to sleep through hunger until the day was over.

There's a lot of bullshit on /co/ sometimes but stuff like this reminds me why I stick around.

Thanks again OP, I might try going for a walk today. Take care of yourselves guys and try to have a good day.
>>
>>83986131
/pol/ likes things too, and a white man writing about the time he was culturally enriched is one of them.

Be strong. You are built to be a hunter gatherer; remember that. All these matters in the "real world", they're all trivial.

A couple of low IQ apes wanted to do something to alleviate their boredom that night, and they probably couldn't get a hold of their dealer. It really is that simple.

Ugh... This is why /Pol/ should be erased

Go back to Tumblr. You're obviously too immature to be handling this discussion

Oh, Paul.

I love that in a soul-baring book, Dini still manages to work in every Batman rogue.

It's really starting to bother me that people aren't bringing up the artist more, I know it's Dini's auto-bio but since Risso colored it as well, all the scenes you liked, didn't like, loved, etc he's an integral part of that. Dude is a master and people aren't mentioning him, even most of the authors blurbs in the book don't even mention him, only one does and does are from other comic writers as well. They should fucking know better.

I know ignoring the artist is common but it really bums me out sometimes especially when they're doing such high caliber work.

I think there was one with Batman on it as well.
I used it, Paul.

My favorite part of this bait is that anon almost just straight up quotes the comic because he's an idiot trying to sound smart by using ten dollar words.

It's true, you're right. But this is such an especially autobiographical work, it's hard not to focus on the words.

I think we're meant to care more about how Paul feels about the situation rather than assign blame to Vivian or not. Although to be fair, it is implied that she's leading him on because he knows Spielberg or some shit. The therapist hit on the whole "she should be honest" thing.
>>
I used to wonder why WB didn't put Dini in charge of DC live-action movies instead of Johns, but reading this makes me think his personality isn't really suited to working in Hollywood as opposed to Burbank.

It's a fair question, but sort of following the thought process that got him out of the dregs, when I think back to the joy Dini's works have brought me for all but 5 years of my life, I care as well. Someone who has done so much that has made me so happy shouldn't have what happened to him happen to him. Obviously no one should, but it almost feels like karma being thrown out of whack. I am glad he was able to get better though.

I think there's a categorical difference between "villain" and street level thug. A better blanket term would probably be antagonists, which they were. Unless you wanted Croc or Black Manta

i would love for this to get an adaptation, either as a cartoon or live action

Is Dini saying here that he actually thought Hip Hippos was a good idea? EVERYBODY who watched Animaniacs thinks the Hip Hippos were the worst characters on it.

Speaking of which, everyone here should save >>83965444, >>83965457 and >>83965472 for the next time a Tiny Toons thread comes around.
