>There is a difference ya know.
Not really. It's a pretentious term for people who think comic book sounds too childish and are embarrassed by it

People who call comics graphic novels are the same people who say film instead of movie

there exists 2 types of comics:

the comic book and the trade paperback

graphic novel or OGN is simply a convenient way to mean "a long comic book written as a whole one-shot instead of in floppy-length installments"

TKDR and Watchmen were a comic books from start to finish, but youll see them on "top 10 graphic novels" lists because article-makers mistake a TPB for a OGN

There are three comics format types, really, if we're talking about the accepted publishing terms for comics print formats, and these formats don't really have anything to do with content (i.e., whether its an "original" narrative or a collection of previously published comics). The three formats are:

- Pamphlet (a.k.a. the "floppy"): usually 80 pages or less, held together by staples but sometimes hand- or machine-stitched.

- Trade Paperback (a.k.a., "softcover," "TPB," or "TP"): A bound comics volume (glued or sewn) with a flexible cardstock cover.

- Hardcover (a.k.a. "hardback," "hardbound," or "HC"): A bound comics volume (glued or sewn) with a rigid cardboard cover (sometimes reinforced with leather, buckram, or heavy paper). May also come with a detachable dust jacket.

"Graphic novel" can mean different things depending on the context of usage (I don't want to get into an extended discussion of the history of the term just now), but in the current comics retail industry, it's increasingly being used as a synonym for trade paperback or hardcover—such usage can lead to confusion when it comes to ordering items (because some books come in both paperback and hardcover editions).

What in god's name makes you think hipsters like high fantasy, or liking high fantasy is exclusive to them?

Once heard an old man claimed that graphic novels were porn.

This. Isn't high fantasy all the rage these days? If OP is talking about modern hipsters, then wouldn't modern hipsters not like something that is popular with the public?
