Dredd was a decent action movie but it didn't feel like the Mega City or Judge Dredd at all.

I'd take a Netflix series. More room to breathe, more opportunities to show different things, and no network tv rating scrubbing decisions.

Another movie would probably be fine too, but I'd take twelve hours of Karl Dredd over two.

TV make up and CGI is at the point where we can get things like the fatties in MC1 and the film was bleak as fuck with it's humor.

If anything, it's the perfect time.

If someone like Netflix did it, you could also have some of the more ambitious progs like "America" as well. I doubt they would do something as insane as Apocalypse war instantly. But "America" is something they could do, isn't hugely SFX based.

Agree with your point on the Apocalypse War. It requires too much buildup, from the Luna Olympics, to Dredd attempting to arrest a Sov Aircraft carrier in the Black Atlantic. Moreover, the scale of devastation in the Apocalypse War would be beyond the budget of Netflix and Amazon.

Whatever happened with this? Did it bomb? It seemed like potentially good, if with lots of liberties taken, adaptation of Asimov's Robot trilogies, but without the big scope.

I think the writers were smart to know their own limits. They didn't think they could make comedy work well so they played it straight.
Personally I enjoyed watching a movie that was happy to be just one thing and do that as well as they could. Too many films try to crowbar in a love story or a comedy side kick and just end up a hideous mess

I agree that the film didn't really capture the feel of Mega-City One (though I think that was more an issue of budget limitations than anything else) but I think Urban captured the core of Judge Dredd's character quite well.
