I'm one of those people who thought Superman was a stupid character, but recently a friend got me to read All Star Superman and I was blown away. Can I have some more Superman recommendations that are similar to All Star Superman?

All-Star Superman was great until the ending.

The Johns and Busiek runs after Infinite Crisis are good. Start with Up, Up, and Away.

Lex Luthor: Man of Steel is great.

There's a story in the Superman suffering, it's not all about punching giant robots and soap opera tier dramas.

I've basically had your same experience

Birthright
Lex Luthor: Man of Steel
Byrne's Man of Steel run, but I haven't read all of it so I couldn't point you the highlights
Kinda the same for Morrison's Action Comics run
For the man who has everything
What's so funny about truth, justice and the American way?
Johns' Superman is kinda nice, but I can personally recommend only his Brainiac storyline
Superman: Peace on Earth
For the man who has everything

Once you're more familiar with the character and his mythos you should read the "bad end" stories, I guess they're more effective that way

Kingdom Come
Whatever happened to the Man of tomorrow

Superman: Secret Identity.

Not a mainline Superman story but the spirit is there and the art is beautiful.

For All Seasons, definitely. It's got the same sort of emotional impact of ASS, but set at the beginning of his career, rather than the end.
Secret Identity's also great, but it's not REALLY a Superman story, it's a story that uses the concept of Superman as the main plot element.

THANKS FOR READING

HOPE YOU ENJOYED

Death is just a big fight scene, so it depends on if you're into that.
Funeral for a Friend is sad as fuck.
Reign of the Supermen is interesting, Superboy is fun as hell.
Return is alright.

Secret Identity.

Always.

Thanks for the story anon.
I feel a bit conflicted about it but I'm glad I finally read it, after seeing it mentionned so often around here.

Superman's Return to Krypton captures the melancholy of Silver Age Superman perfectly, while also having Siegel's own neurosis of returning to a character that was ripped from him bleed onto the page. One of the finest comics ever produced.

Wayne Boring delivers his master stroke hear. The agony is his Superman's faces at Kal-El fighting the inevitable destruction of his homeworld, and the soft anguish at hearing his father's voice for the first time while being unable to express their familial bond.
