Hey guys my fiance is asking me to give her comics to read which is awesome. But here's what sucks, she wants comics with like a strong female lead or whatever that means.

What are some comics with good female characters? I'm not talking forced meme bullshit like Captain Marvel or Wonder Woman, I'm talking genuinely good/interesting characters.

If she's open to a story with multiple main characters where one of them is a woman, 52 might be a good pick. Renee Montoya is fucking great in that, and in terms of narrative importance she's probably in the top three or four characters, there's really not a main character so that's about as big as anyone in the story is.

She's a lesbian though, so depending on your fiancé that may or may not put her off if she wants a woman she can relate to. It's not a HUGE part of the character but it's there.

Gotham Academy would probably appeal to her. Tell her it passes the Bendis test and it has interesting characters, although they are all high school level. Describe it to her as a YA suspense mystery but light on the horror/gore elements.

Batgirl would be good. DC Comics Bombshells, if she likes retro looking art as well. Just point out that Batgirl has attractive/drawn as endowed in some cases females but it also, easily, passes the Bendis test and it definitely qualifies as a Strong Female Comic.

And if you really want to get on her good side, recommend Lumberjanes.

Giant Days has non-perfect characters who make the mistakes typical of their age. But douches they are not. Pic related summarises events published online only as a kind of a prequel.

Bellybuttons starts with silly exagerated characters but with a continual story line and, around the fourth issue, more serious character development and psycho-suspense. None of the characters are perfect, even the noodly Karine.has faults and makes moral compromises.

However, I think Allison's writing is superior.

You're an idiot if you don't know what the Bendis test is and why women might care about it OR why (even if you could give two fucks) it would help you get laid or at least meet real live (versus plastic blow up version) girls by using "Bendis test" in a conversation about comic books and using it correctly, and appropriately.

The bottom three, since you are too stupid to look them up, are all comic book titles currently in print.

The Authority (Specifically Warren Ellis' initial run. Other writers essentially made it the Midnighter show with special guest appearances from the Authority).

Jenny Sparks is the leader of a team of the world's most powerful superheroes, trying to change the world for the better. There's not much in the way of deep characterization, it's all action, but it shows how each of the characters are badasses, especially Jenny.

DC has a ton of great women heroes.
Besides capes, have her check out Gotham Academy.
Azzarello's Wonder Woman was fantastic

Ostrander's Spectre's PoV character is a pretty fleshed out lady.

But fuck cape books, go for stuff like persopolis or I kill Giants or even Tank Girl or something.

Paper Girls is pretty good, came out recently, by the Saga guy.

I wouldn't reccomend Lost at Sea unless you're literally still in junior high. It's not really bad, but I couldn't appreciate it at all. Seconds was fun though. Not amazing, but good.

also i'm fucking dumb. Bone. It's amazing.

And there's a really good book by a french author called Miss Don't Touch Me that's fantastic, that I also forgot.

But I can't stress Bone enough.
