Ok, what's with Bendis using Thanos (and a fucking Celestial in this instant) as a throwaway villain?

He did the same in Avengers Assemble.

Isn't it established that Thanos is a threat well beyond the Avengers can handle?
>>
We need new major villains
>>
>>83419781
Even Star-Lord could handle him alone. Thanos is a joke nowadays.
>>
>>83419876
Star-lord is the third closest friend Thanos has, he wouldn't hurt him anyway.
>>
>>83419836
Yes, but the second a writer tries to do something like that people start complaining about "OCs."

Thanos has conventionally been worth about 2 to 2 and a half Thors. (He shamed the Annihilators, but Starlin was writing that and most of them are huge jobbers anyway.) The stronger lineups of the Avengers should be able to handle him, if he's not using some form of external omnipotence.

It still makes no sense at all.

Them fighting Thanos had nothing to do with 'morality' like he was going on about earlier, and it wasn't the kids fault since thanos actually was coming to break shit and the superheroes fought him like they would any other supervillain.
And they even won and managed to catch Thanos with minimal loss of life which is impressive.

The only plausible explanation for anything is that Tony is sperging out simply because his friend died in the course of duty like he could any other superbattle and he's lashing out wildly looking for others to blame.
Is he meant to be feeling guilty because suddenly the Warmachine armour which has been rebuilt and upgraded by multiple different people over Rhodey's super career is meant to be shit?
>>
I'm sick of comic book events that only happen because half the room take idiot pills

So, what would Tony have done if Carol and Rhodey had gone on a mission to stop Thanos thanks to a warning from the GotG, but everything else went exactly the same?
Would Tony blame the GotG for daring to warn Earth about a dangerous threat?
>>
>>83421395

so... Tony is still the idiot this Civil War? I thought he would be the hero this time.
>>
>>83422376
Is Mantis still on the Guardians?

Why is everyone acting like this future seeing bullshit is new
>>
>>83419836
This.
>>
>>83421737
Because SHIELD and the government don't want anyone finding out.
She's kept as the public face of SHIELD, with less authority, and she's being put on Trial in secret.
>>
>>83422127
Sort of, but it's against Thanos, not the Wrecking Crew or even Count Nefaria.
>>
>>83422445
That's a very good question. The mutants have had over a dozen precogs without anyone ever caring.
Not to mention Reed Richards has a Time Machine in his attic since 1963.
>>
>>83420729
Why does Bendis make every character sound like the Thing in the original Secret Wars?
>>
>>83422127
You can't blame that on Ulysses though, which is what Tony is doing.
Besides, that's still a better result than what would happen if Tony had his way: Thanos comes to Earth, and murders everyone at Project Pegasus and steals the Cosmic Cube.
>>
>>83419836
No, we need more respectful use of the existing major villains. Don't use Thanos for a throwaway battle! Use Count Nefaria or Mangog or one of the literally hundreds of overpowered villains out there.
>>
>>83421024

What happened to Jean's mouth?
>>
>>83422376
>>83422406
I think Bendis wants to make Tony the villain somehow ?

I mean the event was supposed to be a discussion about the morals of knowing about the crime before it happens, and whether or not you would stop the crime in question.

With that original Minority Report scenario it could have been a better event, but as it is right now it just seems like should we use the early warning system or not?

>>83422445
Mantis is part of a different team right now, I thin they're called thee Guardains of Knowhere. Though with her appearing in the new GOTG movie she may be moved back to the primary team
>>
>>83422591
Jean never had a mouth she just made everyone think she does. Since she can't effect him, he sees the truth.
>>
>>83422600
The Minority Report aspect will probably come later, but based on what they've done with Ulysses' intel so far, Tony is being an idiot.
Even though he's the underdog, I doubt many readers will root for him because his motivations are emotional rather than logical.
>>

Tony wants to murder Boxy Love since she's a filthy precog and thus plays god but also wants to nail her since she's an alien babe and he finds out Steven is half-human so its possible to get some fuck with their kind.

>>
>>83423011
First of all, the Ultimates, A-Force and the Inhumans aren't "b list throwaways", they're heavy hitters who actually did succeed at taking out Thanos.
Second of all, THAT'S NOT WHY TONY IS MAD. He doesn't use that as an argument, he's angry that they went on a mission to take down Thanos in the first place, just because they were acting on Ulysses' intel and that's somehow bad.

That's the least believable part. There's no way these villains wouldn't tell everyone about it and make a public fuss. Even if SHIELD denies it, the media and the public would start asking questions.
>>
>>83422692
I hope so, but as it is right now Stark seems more emotionally driven in the situation.

You should have waited a couple of issues for Carol's group to do something actually morally ambigous to pull the "I told you so" card. Listening to Ulysses and stopping Thanos was thr right call, nay the only call.

How are people like Hawkeye flying without even a jetpack?

They bothered drawing Cap and Shulk with them.
>>
>>83420603
With the rejonder "unless Starlin's writing him."

Honestly I'm fine with Thanos being a big deal but needing a boost to be universe wrecking because that gives him motivation to go on quests for power and that's his most interesting villain thing.
>>
>>83423552
True, the Thanos wank can get pretty bad otherwise.
>>
>>83423534
>How are people like Hawkeye flying without even a jetpack?

Remember back in Dark Reign when the Hood's power neutralizer knocked out Hawkeye? Bendis does. He actually had the latent power to fly all along and this unclear appearance at the back of the spread is a major hint about it!
>>
This was a pretty good issue, some fantastic art going on. I feel like the core debate is pretty clever, but Tony's just acting on emotion here and they honestly caught Thanos so I don't see the problem.
>>
>>83422334

>>
>>83423599

>>
>>83423332
>>83423228
Continuity is largely a myth. The only changes to the status quo are due to movie shit. Like how the only Avenger to suffer repercussions for Hickman's multiverse slaughter was Namor who conveniently has his rights stuck with Universal. Or how the Fantastic Four's Baxter Building is now owned by Spider-Man while they stay in canceled limbo because of movie rights. Or how the Inhumans are getting such a push to be dollar store brand X-men because of movie rights.

It's all about that movie synergy anon.

Nothing else matters. Hickman killed the entire multiverse and the only real change was dead Namor and dead Ultimates.

Nothing. Ever. Matters.

The only comic writer that gets this is Grant Morrison. This is what the Oblivion Machine was in Multiversity. Never ending zero sum events marked by death and destruction.

>>83424816
They work when you drop continuity and make stories self-contained. Writers can provide variation and twists on time-proven character concepts.

But if you got an idea for a cool new bad guy please share. It's bound to be better than Corvus Glaive.
>>
>>83423430
Even if you think that the big guy is a Celestial (they do refer to him as a Celestial Destructor but they also say he's not from their dimension, which would imply that it's at the very least not a 616-native Celestial) the human-sized mooks are very clearly not Celestials.

Explained in Ultimates that he was weakened by the return trip into the universe, which is why he jacked a bunch of shia'ar guns.

Tbh Thanos being in custody is kind of an interesting development, I mean has he ever been a prisoner on Earth before? (Not counting that old comic with the Thanos copter where he gets taken away by cops in the end)

Obviously keeping Thanos imprisoned on Earth is a terrible idea just waiting to blow up in everyone's faces, but because of that it kind of has potential. It's a scenario where he really doesn't belong, and that makes it interesting

yeah, Thanos was stuck in that block of amber for a while during "time runs out". Tony, Reed, and company were keeping him "just in case". In this event, I'll bet you $100 Thanos is captured and held for two years real time, only to get out right before Infinity War comes out.

>>83425641
during Infinity (before Secret Wars), Thanos came to Attilan. Black Bolt evacuated the city, fought Thanos alone, and then blew the whole thing up. He didn't bother to tell his wife and co-ruler any of this, so she got pretty mad. He also vanished and was presumed dead after all this went down. When he came back, he didn't apologize or anything, just "hey guess what I'm back, thanks for keeping the throne warm". Medusa, understandably, told him to fuck off, and that she's in charge now, and she's gonna bang Johnny Storm for a while, thanks.

>>83425541
Is there any prison on Earth even strong enough to even hold Thanos. I mean sure I can see that him being imprisoned can lead to some interesting interactions, especially when Tony, Captain American, Vision, or any of the key Avengers that have dealt with him multiple times speak with him.

However the imprisoned villain playing with the heroes trope works when the imprisonment seems to work best when you can believe the villain is actually imprisoned and is manipulating them to break free later

People are just making that up to vilify Tony, as if pretending hard enough he wanted people to die is as bad as the Ultimates and Inhumans actually having two deaths on their heads they should have avoided for all their posturing.

Shit happens is not an excuse when you know before hand. It makes you all the more discredited in fact because you know better for a fact and then manually choose to do worse.

>THAT'S NOT WHY TONY IS MAD. He doesn't use that as an argument
People keep saying this too but after being informed of their joke of an ambush attempt, Tony's question to the Ultimates is what Rhodey was even doing there then.

Carol hand waves the matter and says she'd do it again. Unlike allegations of Tony being pro-Thanos you can quote her on that and take it to court for gross incompetence.

No they raised the price because the second printing is square bound on higher quality paper.

>Pls Kitty/Peter was all Humphries that's why they aren't together anymore, Humphries left.
Claiming victory fast? The story isn't over and Bendis had her change the Star-Lord costume, the only problem Peter had with her.

>How the fuck did you come to the conclusion that that anon was saying Tony was pro-Thanos

>Besides, that's still a better result than what would happen if Tony had his way: Thanos comes to Earth, and murders everyone at Project Pegasus and steals the Cosmic Cube.
>he's angry that they went on a mission to take down Thanos

The only argument against Tony so far is this made up assumption in every thread that he wanted Thanos to get away and destroy the world. There's never a screenshot or direct quote.
>>
>>83435010
Maybe the wiki article he looked up is out-dated.
>>
>>83419781

I disagree with you as in, Blue Marvel and Monica should be able to match Thanos.
I think the problem is Carol called too many useless people, like Medusa and Rhodey.
Blue Marvel, Monica, Carol, Cho Hulk and Whor should have been more than enough to handle Thanos.
>>
>>83424335
Bruh they brought a fuckton of people to take down Thanos.
>Ultimates
>B-team
You're funny
>>
>>83425929
Why the fuck isn't Uncanny Inhumans dealing with that? You would figure that as much as Marvel wants to push the Inhumans, they'd get their shit together and figure out how they want to go about this. For fucks sake, at least focus on the Royal Family. They're going to bring in the money, not these nuhuman fucks that people have to both get to know and try to care about

Besides that Black Panther was there. All he'd have to do is get behind Thanos, put him into an armbar and it'd be all over.

the way a human body is built its pretty much impossible to break out of a properly executed arm bar if you have nothing to use as leverage.

for some reason we are supposed to assume that the surfers body has the same internal structure and just ignore the planet busting power cosmic.
>>
>>83435622

Hudlin.
>>
>>83435954

that was written by the most holy Dwayne McDuffie.

Then why does it reek of Hudlin's shit-tier Black Panther run?

>the way a human body is built its pretty much impossible to break out of a properly executed arm bar if you have nothing to use as leverage.

It shouldn't matter since Surfer should be vastly stronger. Black Panther's muscles are like paper in comparison.

>>
>>83423487
See, I agree with you on everything except the last part.
Gathering a bunch of lower tier heroes in a fight against Thanos was irresponsible on Carol's part and the true reason Tony should have been angry.
If they actually wanted to ambush Thanos, all she had to do was bring in one-two super strong heroes to help her and capture him without any casualties. Instead she went for quantity over quality and see where that brought them...
>>
>>83431901
We keep saying it because Tony's reaction is to claim "I told you so" about using Ulysses, and then immediately flies off to kidnap him so that nobody can ever listen to his intel.
Do those sound like the words and actions of a man who would have acted on the intel to take out Thanos and set up an ambush?
If he were mad for the reasons you claim, he would have said YOU SUCK CAROL, ALL OF YOU SUCK AND YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED ME TO HELP. But he doesn't do that.
>>
>>83435014
It's not a made-up assumption. Tony's reaction to finding out that Carol went on the mission because of Ulysses' intel is to go ballistic and say he's going to stop them from "playing God" ever again by taking out Ulysses.
How else are we supposed to interpret that? Tony is saying that nobody should listen to Ulysses, and if nobody had listened to Ulysses, then Thanos would have attacked Project Pegasus unopposed until the heroe found out he was there from another source, by which point he would have already killed a bunch of people.
>>
>>83438635
The Ultimates aren't lower tier heroes. They're among the strongest beings on Earth, and in the end they did manage to capture Thanos without much fuss.

Pretty well. Or pretty badly depending on your point of view
>>
>>83438913
No, but I mean, why bring lower tier heroes AS WELL as the Ultimates (or lower tier heroes from the Ultimates as well, I am not entierly sure of the power level of the Ultimates, so my bad) when you could have brought one super powerful hero and be done with it without risking anything?
Is like, you have a precog ability that lowers the chances of unexpected and bad things happening and you don't bring them even lower in order to ensure 100% that everything goes well.

>>
>>83421395

>>
>>83439048
It is if they're still married.
>>
>>83439392
That's still not a reason to blame Ulysses.

>>83439462
Yes, but he blames Carol for using Ulysses, so he reacts by trying to take Ulysses out of the picture.
If he was solely blaming Carol he wouldn't do that.
>>
>>83439606
Well yeah, she obviously can't be trusted to avoid the temptation.
>>
>>83439655
The temptation to what? Act on intel?
By that logic Tony should take out any source of intel Carol has, like blowing up the Alpha Flight satellite, so that she'll never organize any missions ever again.
Keep in mind, the fact that Ulysses gave her the intel has nothing to do with the final result, those 2 things are completely seperate.

Why does Bendis always need to remind everybody that he is jewish? Like, half of the time when you read anything he said like here or in his tweet he always need to remind you that he is jewish, damn he is like the /pol/tards that always need to shitpost about how racist they are.

Tony Stark isn't anywhere near a powerhouse compared to the likes of Blue Marvel, she had some ridiculously powerful people in her squad.
>>
>>83420801
Why does marvel hate hair on the side of people's heads so much?
>>
>>83422978

Yeah, I don't exactly get it either.

Nightcrawler alone should've been able to teleport Wolverine to another place that's lifeless, for him to cool down.

Cyclops could've just eye beamed the fuck outta him. Wolverine would eventually regenerate from it though.

Iceman could literally just freeze his ass. Wolverine would survive.

Jean Gray could just shut his mind down or make him see more clearly.

Wolverine shouldn't even be able to cut Colossus too damn deep to the point of evisceration.

Eh, I guess one has to put down their suspension of disbelief over it. Personally I think it would've made more sense if Wolverine somehow had gotten amped unknowingly, from a power gem or something.
>>
>>83420853
>They really did bring in Jean
Fuck I thought they were joking
>>
So why do heroes even care about someone who can see the future in a world with TIME MACHINES and No Consequences?

This story might have worked like 30 years ago. Today its kinda lame/gimmick/last second bull.

Get rid of Bendis, Quesada, and Slott, Marvel. They have zero talent. They start strong and all fall flat because they have no ability to maintain continuity or follow through fully with an idea of any type.

It was called the 'Celestial something' but that doesn't mean it was an actual Celestial. It wouldn't have been defeated so easily.

> McDuffie: ""Read the scene again and this time pay attention. The Surfer allowed the Panther to "restrain" him in the hope of finding out what the FF was up to. A panel later, the Surfer's assistant blasts the Panther unconscious. The Surfer is irritated because he wanted the Panther to talk, which he thought he might do if the Panther believed he had the upper hand. Most of the people who bitch about this have only seen a scan of one page, or have poor reading comprehension skills."
