Is this man some kind of secret genius?

I'm serious. This guy has made plays in the business that under normal circumstances would be insane. Hell he pulled an entire studio away from a controlling higher person and the first film after said move cracks a billion. Like what the fuck? This is not normal.
>>
He gets comics
He gets films
>>
He is just a very good businessman.

I guess he seems like a genius when you compare him to some of the execs at other companies. Reading those Sony emails made me think 90% of them are clinically retarded.
>>
>>82994970
With Jews you Win
>>
He's someone that grew up loving movies and loving comics and was put in charge of melding both his interests into watchable projects.

It's the benefit of having a producer that doesn't only care about the bottom dollar.
>>
He's a smart man.

Reading those Sony leaked emails about him are great. Pascal can't tell that he very obviously thinks everyone at Sony is retarded.
>>
>>82995058
It's funny because he's not even jewish.
>>
Maybe it's less that he's a genius and more like he's just a regular businessman who likes his field and seems like a genius because other people in his position of power are retarded
>>
>>82994970
When every other exec is a retard, a regular guy with good taste in comics and movies is a genius.
>>
>>82995193
What I found funny is that everyone seemed to think very highly of him in the emails. I remember they kept forwarding articles about Feige about how he saved Marvel and shit like that.

I don't know, I was expecting the Sony people to talk shit about him since he's from a rival company. They seemed to respect him though.
>>
He's one of those guys that you look at and can't see yourself doing a better job than he does
>>
>>82995237

Probably this.

Again - let's go back to the Sony emails - studio executives, by and large, and clueless nitwits.

Someone post that one about the Sinister Six movie making 6 million dollars or something like that.
>>
>>82995193
Emails? Please link or post
>>
>>82995388
Was anybody able to comb through all of them? There were so many emails after a certain point I felt second hand embarrassment for Sony and had to stop
>>
I think the biggest accomplishment is that he's got 13 films under his belt in the span of less than a decade and none of them were financial failures and even his lowest critical recepted film was back when it was first starting up.

Man, I like TiH. I think it gets a bad rap for some reason but it's not bad or anything.

The emails seemed pretty damn boring to me for the most part.

>Hell he pulled an entire studio away from a controlling higher person and the first film after said move cracks a billion. Like what the fuck? This is not normal.

A corporate coup is pretty common, especially in conglomerates. He's also had the fortune of working under Perlmutter long enough that he can not only see Perlmutter's wrongs but also what Perlmutter did right. He's a good businessman, but considering the problems everyone has with Perlmutter and the MCU's built in fanbase, you'd have to be retard to screw up what he did.
>>
>>82995703

What is Sony getting out of their current deal anyway? Just being saved the embarrassment of trying to salvage the license again?
>>
>>82995478
I feel strangely in favor of that deal, sure it's a shit deal for Marvel but atleast Spidey wouldn't be under Sony forever
>>
>>82995478
It's actually kind of amazing how badly Sony got messed up

>We want 5 billion Spidey
>How about no
>Fine we'll make the ASM franchise without you! 12 billion in the can by 2020 baby!
[One film later]
>C...Can we share the rights?
>Fine, but we're not paying for it

>>
>>82995478
I love how they just assume that 40 year old Tobey Maguire would agree to do a spider-man movie with Garfield in 2020

sony really is braindead
>>
>>82995749
They get a Spider-Man film were Marvel does all the creative work and Sony gets all the profits, and fanboys will automatically be behind it since marvel is on it
>>
>>82995058
But he defeated Ike the Kike. What is he?
>>
>>82995650
They meant that for the whole Spider-franchise, that movie could have pushed them over the 2 B mark.
>>
>>82995478

>>
>>82995885

They get all the money from the Spider-Man movie, even if Marvel has creative control over it and helps make it.

Sony still pays for it though. And they get no money from the MCU movies where Spider-Man appears, like Civil War or Infinity Wars.

That is good for Sony and sort of bad for Marvel Studios 'cause there aren't many Spider-Man-in-a-team movies coming down the road. They only have Civil War and Infinity Wars. Guess they just wanted Spidey with their minds behind the character and not Sony's.

Reminder that Marvel still owns the profits from the toys though.

Actually David Maisel is the main iginition behind MCU happening. It was Maisels connections and business know-how which made Marvel agree with such a thing. He had convinced the higher ups that he would make the Phase 1 of MCU as we now call it without any funding from Marvel

He was also the reason the Disney deal happened fully securing Marvels MCU future

Fiege handled other stuff till Maisel left

I just want a movie starring Raimis old cast again. One last hurrah for Toby to play a middle aged Spiderman who has to balance family life and spidey life while also coming to terms with he's not the young man he once was and may have to pass the mantel of spiderman to someone new. Even before it was a meme, tumblr and people in general loved laughing Evans just because of how photogenic of a reaction it is. Once the slut interview happened, it became the dankest meme since CIA and the big guy. So we stole all those tumblr gifs and started digging through past interviews and set photos. As it turns out, Chris Evans has been laughing at sluts since long before the MCU.

Even though this is a Chris Evans meme, there's someone else we need to thank for this.

In my experience, the people at the very top don't understand the industry they're in and mainly know how to get power and influence people. The real experts are in some specialised area because they're actually passionate about something. Richard Feynman (the physicist) said in interviews that he took on as little admin as possible because his real passion was the science, and he got turned off it because the people in charge cared more about prestige and one-upmanship than the pursuit of knowledge.

I really hate when people say this.

1. Blade was literally not marketed as a comic book movie and a ton of shit in those movies isn't even from the comics
2. X-men did well but not mindblowingly well and was still embarrased of its roots given everyone was in civilian clothes till the end where they're wearing interchangable black leather outfits
3. It was Spider-man 1 that broke open capeshit as it was the first post-9/11 blockbuster, it raped previous records, featured comic book characters in colorful faithful outfits for the first time since the Batman movies
4.Spider-man's rights were constantly being fought over, so even with X-men or Blade's success, it's not like Spider-man wasn't being attempted to be made for decades before Sam Raimi finally made it happen with Sony
>>
>>83000693
Something can still be the worst MCU movie and still completely fine. I mean I like it because the first half is a monster movie, you spend more time with its villain than any other MCU movie, and it ultimately has a sad ending where Banner fails in every attempt to 'fix' the Hulk but that actually ends up benefiting him because he learns to accept and control the Hulk.

I dunno, it worked for me. The Cap set up was neat too. TIH is the best movie on that list and my main point is it doesn't exactly deserve to be on there as evidence that Feige produces shit movies.

We can do opinions on this all day, but I strongly disagree and I've always felt the Thor movies get unfairly shit on for being on par with most of the MCU. And while Iron Man 2 is a bloated mess, it does have some very entertaining parts. There is nothing about IH I'd call entertaining. Abomination is a joke of a character, there's nothing to him. The movie retreads what Ang Lee did but with more action. Most of the cast feels like they don't even want to be there. Even the Hulk design looks like some giant surfer. There's pretty much nothing I found redeeming about it, short of where Hulk screams at the lightning which felt very classic movie monster.

But that's about it.

As someone who only really knows English it bothers me multilingual speakers feel or are made to feel lacking compared to native speakers of only one language.

Sure the native can excel in their language, not always though depending on their education, but it is actually a greater feat of intelligence to juggle the complexities of two or more languages, even those very closely associated, since the connections made in the brain to understand the similarities and differences improves consideration for the very nuances of language itself once you're learning it instead of just using it.

In fact someone who learns English and another language, regardless of which is their first language, may notice where and why certain words were introduced to what is modern English.

Here's a weak example, but one I often appreciate. The word Quintessential. It's often used to quickly emphasize the significance of something but when you analyze its roots it's referring to the 5th element which was considered in early science and philosophy as necessary to unite the other 4 elements, if not reality as a whole.
You acquire a deeper reverence for what the word is meant to evoke once you see this.

This is not likely something someone who really only has a natural grasp of a single language by proxy of their parents or peers speaking it will recognize. To them it may just be another fancy word for important, and ironically enough it may not seem important to them to know otherwise but the fact is a lack of different angles of perspective reduces the scope of one's view.

This isn't to say every multilingual speaker will have Doug Ramsey levels of interpretation, and of course there will be hindrances in terms of fluency, vocabulary and so on but the point is it's not an automatic negative to not have English or whatever as your first language.
>>
>>83001347
He got actively bullied for it as a kid, that tends to be something that can carry over a mentality into adulthood. Especially since he's in a public spotlight where anything he says can be interpreted and spread around by media, that adds a lot of pressure if he phrases something incorrectly. Stan is a thoughtful person that doesn't want to be misunderstood. He's always apologetic whenever somebody tells him something he said comes off wrong.

Pressure or perceiving that people are judging you can make anxiety worse. My grandmother had a lisp as a child and got routinely shamed for it, took speech therapy classes, and even in her last years she was still working hard to overcorrect it. Same thing with stutterers.

His English is fine, but anxiety and past shame makes him doubt himself, which leads to him being more uncomfortable and quiet in interviews. Having Mackie with him, somebody he does have a relationship with, makes it easier for him to overcome it. He's visibly improved over the years.

But sure, he's retarded. Herp derp.

IM3 is one of the worst superhero movies of all time. If you consider that the best, it speaks to either the quality of the MCU as a whole or your standards in general.

IM3 is a great movie, man. It's just a bit disengenuous with the handling of the source material, but it's a well constructed movie.
>>
>>83005974
>IM3 is one of the worst superhero movies of all time.
Make your case. And if you want to rephrase your statement to just something like "IM3 is bad" or "IM3 is the worse Iron Man movie or worst MCU movie" etc. then that'd be easier to defend. Trying to say IM3 is in leagues with Elektra, Catwoman, or Batman and Robin makes you look like an ass that can only speak in internet exaggerations where something is either the best of all time or a horrible abomination.

Executive producer is a meaningless title. When you see someone "promoted" to executive producer, that's hollywood speak for "they were fired." In this case he was probably briefly consulted by the directors when they asked "who the fuck is (title character)?"

The Phantom wasn't "good", but I have trouble explaining what was wrong with it. It was rather accurate in portraying how the comics went, so it seems to be authentic? I guess I wasn't a fan of the comics and couldn't tell what was missing from the film.

They meant for both Sinister Six movies (note it was Part 1 and Part 2).

So they were expecting Avengers levels of ticket sales, ~1B each
>>
>>83012383
Which is still absurd.
Avengers did so well because, right out the gate, Iron Man kicked ass. Every MCU movie after that was riding on the good will that Iron Man immediately established.
ASM did not win people over the way Iron Man did. To expect a franchise as big as Avengers to come from what ASM set up is hilariously out of touch.

It's a huge meme, people.

Success rides on success. It's pre-existing bias. You go to a Marvel movie expecting it to not be a train wreck. You expect to enjoy it, because they have a pretty good track record so far.

BvS deliberately distanced itself from Nolan's trilogy. All it has to ride on was MoS, which had a lukewarm reception. So it brought nothing to the ring but it's own merits.

Even if Civil War and BvS were the same level of quality, Civil War would probably do better just because the MCU had more momentum.

>I'm serious. This guy has made plays in the business that under normal circumstances would be insane. Hell he pulled an entire studio away from a controlling higher person and the first film after said move cracks a billion. Like what the fuck? This is not normal.
Disney isn't a bumblefuck of a company - they understand branding and long-term planning. They want you to visit their theme parks, buy their toys, wear their clothes. It's a top to bottom merchandising empire. They managed very stable leadership and built a solid, well oiled machine that works together and compliments each other.

Now look at the other five major film studios:

Universal: Owned by a rent seeking cable monopoly. Their studios are an IP farm so they can entice people with OnDemand shit.

Warner Bros.: Hot garbage. Warner has been a dumpster fire for decades and has burned it's way through multiple mergers to be the shitty remnant it is now. Circling the drain and living on their HBO profits.

FOX: In chaos because Rupert Murdoch is too busy fending off investor attacks and trying to blackmail conservative politicians.

Viacom: The infighting was so terrible they had to get divorced from CBS. They got a shitty film studio (Paramount) and a bunch of networks on a dying distribution model (cable).

Sony: Jesus Christ, where do I start with this one? They make Warner look like geniuses. I'm pretty sure the different branches of Sony are sending assassins and spies to keep their rival branches in check. Unlike Disney, they lack any sort of cohesion and each branch is insistent on making their own stamp to the point where they annoy the consumer (and each other) with proprietary nonsense.

Feige isn't any sort of god or prophet - he understands comics and the audience. He only stands out because the rest of Hollywood outside of Disney is absolute garbage that underperforms and/or launders money. Those Sony emails weren't an aberration - Hollywood really is that bad.

This.

It's a studio hierarchy thing.

At it's worst, the directors reported to Feige who reported to Perlmutter who reported to Iger. That's 3 interactions, one of which took the notes of the creative committee. Now it's down to Director -> Feige (Showrunner) -> Iger (Bank).

Feige has always taken the job of 'Perlmutter convincer', so he got good enough to convince Iger to let Perlmutter go.

Even Geoff Jones goes to the same position at WB, he'll have to fight the same execs that chose Snyder in the first place. Nobody is gonna give him as free a rein as Feige had. Disney is just too agile for its competition to follow in these blockbuster-type studios.

For the execs to make it good and long-term profitable they'd have to fire themselves, but then it wouldn't be profitable for THEM any more. And that ain't gonna happen.

I know I keep saying it, but I would not be surprised if a studio or two closes its doors within the next 5 - 10 years. Hollywood has become too unstable now that big budget films can be released all year round now, and constantly making $200 mil films. All it takes is a few flops, and some of these studios will be gone.

I mean, we live in an age where Amazing Spider-Man 2 is considered a failure even though it made $700 mil at the box office. The game has been set that every film has to strive for a billion, and that's a really dangerous game.

It's mostly this.

A natural speaker would instinctively know that by using a word instead of another synonym, changing the placement of the words or stressing a specific word they can transmit specific nuances they know will be caught-

This disappear when you deal with not-instinctual languages you know. Even worse if you come from a structurally complex language(like the neo-latin languages) and have to express yourself in a much more simple language like English. The grammatical structure is part of the way the message is conveyed, the very simple English structure robs natural speakers of more complex languages of many tools... it basically halves the tools one has to communicate.

Such problem is usually something not-natural speaker feel by themselves and not something they are made feel by others(unless the others are dicks)

Feige doesn't leave until IWp2. No way he'd leave his baby 1 year before completion.

Also, Loeb seems to be doing particularly fine as the TV/Netflix guy. Heck, the Marvelflix are of comparable quality of the larger MCU (with a different tone and advantages/disadvantages, but still, it adapts the medium to its stories particularly well).

The two best content producers are Marvel Studios and Marvel TV at the moment. Heck, even SHIELD is having a fucking great run.

But Loeb is older than Feige, and won't retire after him.

The only thing prompting Feige to leave would be for the Star Wars studio head to resign. Dude is a bigger Star Wars fan than comics fan.

>So I'm dense. How exactly does Sony fuck up so much? I saw their plans for the Spider-Mab movies, but that didn't seem entirely stupid.
Basically, they were being dumb, but nothing out of the ordinary for high level execs. Problem is, ordinary stupidity for high level execs. is actually kind of insane and retarded to normal people. But businesses get away with it because everyone pretends things are normal due to the vast majority of people being consumers left in the dark who can only see the eventual end products and most executives also being insane. I'm sure Marvel and Disney have their own dumb shit.

But then the leaks completely pulled the curtain off of them. Suddenly, the enormity of Sony's bizarre boardroom culture is revealed and it quickly becomes clear that, while not the worst, they have no idea what the hell they're doing. There are some good ideas, but some mind blowlingly retarded ones (shit like this for instance >>82998072). When both are being bandied about in the same breath, it makes it obvious that despite some good ideas, they have no idea why they're good ideas. They're basically just monkeys at a type writer, occasionally shitting out Shakespeare.

Sony is suddenly under pressure from the top dogs and investors worried that this very public embarrassment is going to fuck up the delicate circus of lies that is modern business. I recall the Spider-Man deal was largely going through when the leak happened, but a lot of Sony decisions had to be made under this pressure of "oh shit, everyone knows how retarded we are, we can't bluster about like usual." A lot of business culture comes down to swagger and smoke and mirrors. When everyone can see what you were actually doing and thinking, you're suddenly in a lot poorer of a position to do that.

Sony's probably not particularly dumb, not the American Sony board we're seeing here, but they're the only ones whose entire email archives got leaked for us to investigate.

Is Civil War good? Is it as good as Winter Soldier? Might go watch it tomorrow unless it's shit. I

it should be noted too that Warner bros. is a different culture when it comes to making movies. It's all filmmaker centered, thats why most of the time, unless you as a director fuck up badly or the executives have an axe to grind with you, they are hands off and willing to make more director focued films. They currently have 5 Best Picture winner movies and in 2014, was dominate in the Oscar race by having 10 nominations for it's movies, while others got no more than 3.

Basically, they saw the numbers on Man of Steel and saw the numbers on the Nolan movies and figured "look, we can trust Snyder with this. he did well enough with his last few movies and can pull a decent return alone on the name Batman". There is no real "spin" or "hidden agenda", they just saw the numbers and let Zack Snyder do his think based on that.

I do wonder now that there will be some sort of "middleman" between Tsujihara and the filmmakers, how this will affect the overall moral of the studio going forward. Will they adopt the Disney model? or will they continue to be a "Filmaker First" studio?

It's quite good. I'd highly recommend it.
>>
>>83030572
I liked it.
Not as "tense" as WS. But it had a better plot and a better villain. SM and BP is great. And you get more Liz Olsen screen time, which is always a good thing.

So you're saying he should suck Barbra Streisand's dick?
>>
>>83030784
it woudln't hurt, but go find a Miley Cyrus or one of the Kardashians and treat them "nicely" and inflate their egos enough to make a movie about them. They will dump cash like it's no tomorrow, if you can bluff it, you can get the movie made and BAM, you are in hollywood.

In the word of Kevin Smith:
"Welcome to LA... put a dick in your mouth"

Honestly man, I'd say it's one of the best cape films of all time.

>>
>>83030572
It's good. Not as good as Winter Soldier for me, but still in the top 3 MCU movies.

Fun fact: Peters and his business partner Peter Guber did such an infamously terrible job at running Colombia Pictures that someone wrote an entire book about how much of an epic fuck-up the both of them were.

It's pretty incredible.

Also, it's about a strong wymmen who do not need any men against RAPEMAN.

It would basically be "good will commercial" at its worst, but it was received well enough.

Nothing. That was his salary as an exec.
When that dude said that WB is full of nepotism he wasn't exaggerating.
>>
>>83030031
Aren't there anti-Monopoly laws? Because Disney buying WB would be pretty damn close to a monopoly.
>>
>>83030066
Some people do like JJ now. One of my friends loves the character now. But the show was really badly paced.
>>
>>83031534
it's MMMMURRRICA baby!

Monopoly laws are for commies!

Anti-monopoly laws only apply to forced overtakes.

>>Disney buys WB
>>WB and Marvel under one roof.
>>Merge of the universes together.

I know it's a horrible idea, but I kind of want to see it happen.
>>
>>83031672
if Disney buys WB, then Marvel gets the leads on how comics are done.

Most likely, they'll keep the Marvel and DC separated bar the occasional crossover\ character moving from an universe to the other.

Like Jubilee moving to Gotham to stay with Tim, and Black Canary cucking Ollie with Clint.
>>
>>83031738
I want a what if Punisher goes to Gotham mini where he just kills Batman's rogues in violent fashions.
>>
>>83031868
there is Batman\Punisher for that.

If Disney did buy WB then they would have to sell DC to a 3rd party due to Antitrust laws

However There are enough studios other than Disney & WB for them combining to not be monopoly enough otherwise
>>
>>83036580
>If Disney did buy WB then they would have to sell DC to a 3rd party due to Antitrust laws
no.
There are still plenty of competitors and they wouldn't own the means, the production and the sole distribution method.

If DC and Marvel merged the only thing that would happen is they would both start sucking even more since they aren't trying to one up eachother
>>
>>83031577
No they do not. The government can step in any take over or merger. They SHOULD justify their actions as acting on behalf of the consumer but are obligated to. They just rarely do that in the western world because almost all the politicians are already bought by the corporations.
>>
>>83002349
To be honest both thors movie got fucked by studio medling and bad luck with actresses getting sick.

Lots of deleted scenes make those 2 thor movies way better.
>>
>>83036580
you can bet Universal would KILL for DC Comics right about now and if they heard Warner Bros. got brought out lock, stock and barrel to Disney, you can bet your ass they would use the Minions money they got to get that and the rights to stuff like Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera. Hell, if this does happen, I wouldn't be suprised too if Turner networks themselves like CN get swallowed up by Universal in a bid to position themselves as the next Warner Bros.
