A fucking mess summarizes it quite nicely, as you said if it was played as a 'take one for the team' based decision than you can see the tragedy in it. Terezi realising that to achieve the best result she will compromise her happiness to some extent, reduce the number of friendships available to her on top of the whole murders thing and having to accept this toxic element of Vriska back into her life. It says a lot that she believes the best thing for everyone involved is to distance Karkat and Dave from her so Vriska can take that place.
Had the story framed it a bit closer to that way then the retcon would have gained some plus points back, especially given Terezi is nearly a non-character post-retcon as is. But no, she's a tool for Vriska to use to validate her decisions before going off to do the whole Juju thing.

Terezi's retcon was entirely selfish. She made sure she didn't go down the road of trying to get with Karkat, made sure she wouldn't get together with Gamzee, and brought back Vriska because she felt guilty. None of this was even necessary to success, John probably could have just stopped Aranea from getting the ring and worked it out from there.

i wouldnt want to force people who dont enjoy those things to do them. but there is nothing bad about someone who does enjoy them. manly stuff is great, the issue is with people trying to fake it or force others into complying. and that applies equally to a lot of other enforced stereotypes.
