First Robotech Arc? Hmmm.....

Assuming that it is the last episode i watched when the Zentradi and RDF first start talking it goes surprisingly well at first.

The Zentradi fleet may be made out of cardboard but there are a million ships. They need to avoid ground combat though, Zentradi have huge guts and Spacemarines love to rend and tear.

Also Battle Pods are so fragile i am reasonably sure they are vulnerable to bolter fire or even massed lasguns.

AdMech would probably recreate the original premise of the show by declaring that as a priceless artifact of the Dark Ages of Technology the SDF ! must not be harmed no matter the cost.

Max Sterling somehow beats up a Space Wolf and becomes friends with him.

True that.

Silly question, I'm a mad fluff obsessive, but always curious, as the Imperium is just being ground down on so many fronts, why wont they just willingly give ground and reduce what they need to defend rather than try to hold everything against everything and be spread so thin? Or is that just heresy to cede such ground?
>>
>>82871471
The Imperium has a Million plus worlds. The Republic has 14 million plus. While the Imperium has an ungodly sized military the Republic could (in theory) hold them at bay til a proper war economy got going. The Republic would be facing a war beyond any they can think of that would last generations, but they have good odds if they can get their shit together.

Any 40k vs Star Wars argument ultimately boils down to home turf advantage.

Whoever is on their own turf wins. The republic has their ez hyperspace in their own galaxy. But lack any sort of ability to use it in the 40k galaxy because they need those maps for it to work.

>>

What is the population of those worlds? How many Hive planets like Corasant are there?

Also i don't think (besides a possible force effect) SW has anyway to block 40K Teleportation or a real way to counter it.

>>82871832
They march into the cities, they seize control and somewhere around there mass raping occurs.
>>
>>82871778
I know right? I use to think they had a few thousand tops. Also that 14 million only counts Republic worlds. There are hundreds of smaller coalitions, cartels, gangs, kingdoms, ect that hold anywhere from a single city state to hundreds of planets.

The advantage SW has is speed. Their hyperspace drive is way way way faster than warp travel, and they can outproduce the Imperium industrially. Yes, they have shittier armor and their weapons are maybe on-par with the Imperium, and in an even fight the Imperial Navy will win against the Republic Navy, but they're never gonna have an even fight, because hyperspace drive.

SM Librarian versus Jedi is something I'd like to see, though.

They're humanity from the year 40,000 A.D.

They conquered most of the galaxy by slapping the shit out of aliens thousands of years ago, but they've regressed socially and technologically since then.

Their normal army, the Imperial Guard, numbers in the trillions, with enough starships to transport all those men. And their tech destroys planets fairly regularly.

Socially, they're Catholic Nazis in space.
>>
>>82874335
They're an extremely xenophobic human empire that controls a large portion of the galaxy. They have near limitless resources and are not unfamiliar to throwing literal billions of bodies at a problem until it drowns in Imperial blood.

It's main weaknesses are the simultaneous corruption and fanaticism towards their God-Emperor, which has led to stagnation and the loss of large swathes of technological knowledge.

Imperial ships do have Void Shields and can withstand battles against the best Hell, Nature, Communism, Egyptian Skynet, Mold with Gunpowder, hyper-advanced Sadists and hyper-advanced environmentalists can throw at them. Plus, the Galaxy of 40k and SU are somewhat similar.

I think it would depend on the extent of the invasion. If the whole Imperium was thrust into SU, the gems would simply be overwhelmed by the sheet mass of the Imperium. If it was an expeditionary fleet, then the Fleet would die off from attrition after a time

I don't like choosing xenos over a human civilization, but come on. Just think about the energy requirements of reforming an entire fucking planet like that. This is construction equipment we are talking about with the power to do anything the Imperium can militarily. Glassing the surface of a planet would take a literal afternoon.

All the Imperium has going for it is that MAYBE Homeworld isn't used to fighting civilizations with spaceships and is more geared towards fighting other gems. By power output though, the Diamond Authority makes the Imperium look like they are chucking rocks.

>If the whole Imperium was thrust into SU, the gems would simply be overwhelmed by the sheet mass of the Imperium.
What about logistics? An Imperial fleet without the Imperium to back it up would quickly dissolve as its resources run out and it can't feed itself. Gems don't have such problems and can fabricate material using a handheld tool.
>>
>>82877628
I think you're vastly underestimating the Imperium technological superiority.

Imagine the technological output of and earth with 100X more people, then imagine that 10000X, That is how the Imperium do.
>>
>>82877698
You do realize that Imperial Fleets are self-sustaining, right?
>>
>>82877681
So then why are we even considering OP's question?
>>82877698
Ships have enough food to last them for a long time. Not always enough to last an "unexpected" extended stay in the Warp, but enough for quite a few years.

Given that the Imperium is made up of Quadrillions if not more people, I'm sure they would eventually find places to colonize and reside, but you are right, Trillions would die from starvation and dehydration, as food would be rationed to the Imperium's best and most deserving assets
>>
>>82877698
Their ships have farms and shit in them. Hell some have lost tribes of people who were born on the ships.
>>
>>82877799

>>
>>82877799

>>
>>82877105
They got there. Tau kicked their ass, space pope got assassinated, mechanius got super butthurt and set space on fire.

The tau got pretty fucked up but the imperial fleet that was supposed to wipe them out completely got stopped at one planet.
>>
>>82877719
I think you are vastly underestimating the power requirements for ripping apart a planet like that. The Imperium doesn't do that. They aren't capable of doing it. They colonize a hundred million worlds but at most just the thin layer of a planet's surface. Homeowlrd turns entire fucking planets, core to crust, into hive cities.

The Imperium is tier 2.1 civilization. Homeworld is a 2.5 civilization. That is a big fucking difference. The best one could hope for is that the Diamond Authority rarely fights and has never fought anyone but other gems. If so they might be woefully illequipped for fighting the battle hardened Imperium initially. But by scale and shear unadulterated power output, the Diamond Authority puts the Imperium to shame.
>>
>>82877970
It didn't say the time it took though, if the process took hundreds or thousands of years then the technological ablity is less impressive.
>>
>>82877906
>can't beat the fucking Tau

>>
>>82871361
I would assume the Zentradi, while stupid and everything, would be able to take them out by sheer firepower. If any Imperium forces were left or if they got within range to board I think it would be over because they could just "chain board" until they were all dead.

Everyone on the SDF-1 eats popcorn, assuming they haven't gotten to earth yet
>>
>>82877888
You've got to adapt to the setting. In SU, the Milky Way is so inconsequential that it makes more sense to just imagine that the Imperium simply exists there rather than invades. They are already ill equipped to handle the Diamond Authority. Leaving them at a further disadvantage by only allowing them a fleet of ships instead of millions of worlds would be an uninteresting route.
>>
>>82878026
To be fair, despite being small the tau wreck face and advance very fast technologically.

>Homeworld attacks the Imperium
They are going to have to deal with the Tyranids, the Tau, the Necrons, the Orks, the Dark/Eldar, Chaos and all it's subsidiaries before it can get a slice of the Imperial Pie

This had me thinking
>Homeworld invades 40k galaxy
>Fights against chaos
>Tzeentchian forces unleash spells and rifts in physical space the Gems never thought possible. Some explode in magical electricity, while others crumble to dust and are sucked away in a mini-wormwhole
>Nurglite factions frantically look for a way to get a Gem sick to no avail
>Slaaneshi Factions grow fond of the Gems, collecting their poofed crystals and forging dildos from them, or grinding them to dust and snorting them
>Khornate Factions smash them to pieces, and the fact that Gem's dont bleed makes them angrier
>>
>>82878026
If you consider the warp pads to be like webways and what happened in Marble Maddness, the Warp likely didn't get fucked over by a War in Heaven and gems have no influence over it.

An exterminatus is nothing more than Homeworld breaking ground on new colony. Destroying the crust of a planet is pathetic compared to what Homeworld does to planets.

>Two-Stage Cyclonic Torpedoes, which are a more exotic form of the standard Cyclonic Torpedoes, are the most common of a special class of rare Exterminatus weapons, designed for use against atmosphere-less or biologically-void worlds (Necron Tomb Worlds being the main example). These torpedoes possess two-stage warheads: The first stage is an unusually powerful Melta Charge that bores straight through a planet's surface all the way down to its core. The second stage is a modified Cyclonic Charge that destabilises it, in most cases physically destroying the planet from the inside out.

They poof the crystal gems. If the gems are lucky the Imperium doesn't notice the falling gems, though one would probably be broken by lucky mistake. They'd probably purge Steven and his father, as well as Connie if they learned about how close she was to the xenos scum. They then have no further resistance as they add the ancient Holy Terra-like planet with bizarrely complacent inhabitants to the Imperium.

Enough.

Also it's not like fighting the Tyranids. I doubt the Imperium would waste an Exterminatus on the Homeworld and not just throw their armies at them to crush them and retake the planet. You don't seem to understand Imperium tactics. The only times the Imperium ever entrenches itself is against horde enemies like the Orks and Tyranids, enemies that will match the sheer numbers of the Imperium's armies enough to form a deadlock. For anything less than billions of soldiers, the Imperium just hurls bodies at it until they have won. I do not think Homeworld has the numbers, nor the power to force the Imperium to entrench themselves.

But maybe it's not a galaxy as big as the Milky Way. Maybe it's one of the Magellanic Cloud galaxies. Still though, if Homeworld only controls as many star systems as the Imperium Homeworld colonies are still ridiculously huge.

Technology wise, they can replicate anything, turn back time, see the future, and can engineer on a planetary scale, like by turning any planet they want into any structure they want.

The thing is, you're talking about a setting where the rules of the universe are extremely important to the setting.

When talking about a crossover with Warhammer, you have to specify who's universe they are in. Imperium spaceships are slow as fuck without being able to drop into the realm of souls and use the Emperor as their beacon, and Space Marine Geneseed is actually dependent on the Warp connection to the Emperor so in any setting where the Warp does not exist the Space Marines literally just die as their ultra-important implanted organs all turn into non-functional sacks of tissue.

Basically every species other than Tau require the Warp to function at full capacity, while the Imperial Guard and Sisters of Battle are the only two other factions that even stand a chance. Even Tyranids, their hivemind is a Warp presence so without it they have no cohesion or unity and would probably consume themselves.

So let's put this in perspective. There is no Warp in the DC Comics universe.
So pretty much any 40k faction other than Tau loses outside their own universe.

But if Superman were to go to the 40k universe, suddenly you have Superman being affected by the Warp.

Well as far as I have read, they don't refer to "Homeworld's galaxy" as in the galaxy owned by Homeworld, but the galaxy Homeworld is located in.

As for tech, time control is where they have an edge, but the Imperium has methods to see into the future, and thousands of planets are altered on a planetary scale with technology, usually Hive Worlds or Forge Worlds.

As for size, the Imperium is massive, and filled to the brim with humanity. Manpower is the Imperium's greatest resource, to the point that they can send billions and billions of lives to the death, and it wouldn't even put a dent in the sheer size of their military assets.

>>
>>82882108

I wouldn't say it's endless suffering. You'll suffer for a while but you end up committing to nurgle the pain goes away. You'll still be a diseased sack of flesh but you'll have a stupid amount of pain tolerance from it.

I dunno really Nurgle has got weird dynamics. He'll send down horrifying plagues onto entire populations on a whim but he also loves every living creature. Kinda like a loving grandfather, just goes about it in a really fucked up sorta way.

Well, I mean, diseases are living things too. If you valued virus as much as you did a human then it kind of makes sense to infect humans with diseases.

I wouldn't say his shit is about endless suffering. Its about adherence to the natural cycles of life and death, things that live must in time rot and succumb to decay, with diseases aiding in that natural order.

Also his followers fucking love him and he loves them back. Hugs all around as we sup from the pot!

>>82882259
He only loves every living creature because they are breeding grounds for disease. Not to mention "suffer for a while" is a gentle way to say it, when in reality the diseases that Nurgle's ilk spread are EXCRUCIATINGLY painful, like were talking flesh melting into puddles, organs swelling like balloons, boils and puss spewing sores replacing what used to be your eyes, and tumors everywhere, it may only last, like a few minutes, but the pain would be so bad it would seem like an eternity. And if you do surrender yourself to Nurgle, you would most likely turn into some mindless walking tumor whose whole existence is to spread more disease. Some don't even get the chance to surrender, as Nurgle's minions spread a disease that kills the entire populace rapidly.
>>
>>82882403
>Adherence to the natural cycles of life and death
Ah yes, because plague zombies are so very natural right? Or Nurgle's Rot, which can rot even the very soul of a person, but goes so slow it won't kill you fast enough.

No, Nurgle doesn't give a shit about the natural cycle of life and death, because his power comes from those suffering from disease, and you can't be diseased if you are dead, which is why Nurgle's greatest works are diseases that won't kill you, or kill you very slow, so he can savor every second of your agony.

The reason Ork Waaagh!!!s can get countered quickly and crushed before they get too big in the 40kverse is because the forces of the 40kverse know what Orks are and how to deal with them.

Put Orks in pretty much every other universe and they will run roughshot for a long time, since no one would understand how Orks work and why they keep popping up everywhere.

What? No.

The Imperium of Man has a lot more than a Million plus worlds. The lore describes it as a million million worlds. So many worlds that countless many get "lost" due to bureaucracy when a scribe forgets a name or unwittingly move a decimal point. These worlds are lost for generations, if they're even rediscovered. Entire human cultures rise and die out in the time between when they've been lost and when they are rediscovered.

If the entire Imperium's war machine had the Republics universe in it's sights, it'd just slowly roll over it, throwing it's men into the meat grinder as it inexorably plowed throw whatever defenses they could muster.

From my understanding, when you're talking about the bigger ships, the battle barges, the Imperial flagships, etc... It's the classic Naval Ship battles + torpedo's. It's very long range war, unless you get up close and then the Imperium ships are boarding the other ship or just straight up ramming the other ship and hoping to plow straight through it.

If it's the smaller space battles though, they've got heaps of small craft, interceptors, bombers, etc, to do the dog fighting.

Radicals have sanctioned psykers and aliens in their retinues quite frequently. It's a really good way to make enemies with puritans, but sometimes the skills and expertise they bring with them are worth it. Inquisitors are the Left Hand of the Emperor, theoretically they can do what they want and only their peers in the Inquisition can judge them. Theoretically.

Roger's disguises are more likely to hold up for at least some time, if only for comedy purposes. Assuming the way the Imperium normally works, Stan's job at the CIA remains more or less the same - most world's have quite a bit of autonomy so long as they pay their tithes on time, and basic police and intelligence work tends to be devolved down to local enforcers. Bullock may have to answer to an Adeptus Arbites official and the wackier CIA tech handed over to the Mechanicus.

>>82886155
He doesn't really, he's more of a figurehead. The High Lords of Terra "interpret" the Emperor's will and dictate policy, which is filtered down to a vast, vast, vast bueracracy that very slowly deals with it. Even working at absolute peak efficiency it barely works simply having to deal with so much information from so many sources, so most power is devolved to a local planetary / sub-sector level. There's really only a handful of actual laws the Imperium demands you follow

+ Pay your tithes (usually in the form of raw materials and Imperial Guard regiments)
+ Hand over your psychics to the Black Ships for processing / feeding the Emperor / execution
+ Hate the mutant, the xeno and the heretic.

A lot else is left up to individual governors.

That's a really old picture, I'm not sure if when the book that's from was published the Ordo Xenos even existed. I'm looking for a newer one.

I tend to think of it as another one of those "theoretically" moments. Grey Knights are associated with the Inquisition. The Inquisition theoretically can requistion anything it needs to do its job, up to and including Space Marines. Space Marines tend to refuse to do anything they don't want to do. Anything that gets a Grey Knight force to reveal themselves and ask for help is probably the kind of problem that a Space Marine commander won't refuse, however, usually because its something like demon primarch invasions or other reality exploding events.

Ward's fantasy books, Demons especially, so completely broke the Fantasy game that it needed a new edition to attempt to mitigate the damage. The changes that brought with it helped contribute to its decline of the game, alongside GW's usual pants on head retarded practices. Ward also contributed quite heavily to End Times, the immediate precursor to AoS
.
He's a shit creative writer and an on his very best day a mediocre rules writer who very obviosuly plays favourites. The fact that the other GW writers somehow manage to be even worse than him is more a damning indictment of the company's standards than anything positive about the man himself.

Tyranids tend to be in it for biomass, which I'm not sure the gems count as. Orks is made for fightin', and they shed spores everywhere that eventually grow into new orkoids if they can get into somewhere they can grow. Once they hit a sufficiently large population they also spontaneously generate oddboyz like Meks, Kommandos and Wyrds, and they adapt very quickly to face particular opponents. If they can't loot something meks often come up with new things that mimic what they've seen, so ramshackle technowotsits wiv shiny gubbins would get built quite quickly. The harder fighting is in an area the more Orks involved grow larger, stronger and more cunning, and the promise of a good scrap attracts even more orks. If you don't wipe them out at a cellular level very quickly you've got a recipe for an ongoing quagmire of a war with no end.

Craftworld and Dark Eldar would almost certainly avoid a straight fight entirely. Craftworlders might investigate whether they're some kind of ambulatory soulstone, and Dark Eldar because jewellery you can torture is fun.

>>Imperium = hard fighting, no real winner to be seen yet
From what I've heard in the thread, Homeworld technology will give them an advantage in space, while Space Marines, Knights, Titans, and various other fuckery means the Imperium wins the ground game.
So I guess it depends on whether it's a war of conquest, or one where the goal is just to burn everything the enemy has to the ground. The former requires landing on and taking planets, so the Imperium wins, the latter just requires blowing them to hell from space, thus the advantage goes to Homeworld.

Basically this.

Homeworld is literally SEEMS more powerful, but they also SEEM to suck when it comes to warfare.

While the Zentradi have a HUGE numerical advantage they have equally huge disadvantages.IoM ship weapons grossly outrange most Zentradi weapons and are significantly more powerful. Also the fact that IoM ships are not so ridiculously fragile as to be vulnerable to tactical missiles launched by fighters. This might be a huge problem if the IoM does hit and run as part of a stratagem to capture the SDF1.

Hilariously the side with the overwhelming advantage in troops and mecha (Zentradi) must avoid protracted ground combat at all costs. I am imagining a Imperial Knights household marching out of a drop ship to confront a ten thousand laughing Zentradi.

Brings up a intresting question: Since Zentradi are biologically human are they Xenos?

Also it has never been addressed if the reverse micronization process works on humans, logically it should if Zentradi are basically identical. Could be fun if the IoM captured one of those micronization chambers.

They'd be Abhumans in that case. Mutants at worst. The Imperium looks down on deviations from the human form, a corruption of it. But some abhumans are accepted just because they're useful, while mutants are barely tolerated if at all (either treated as an extreme lower class workforce or exterminated simply by being).

>>

it is highly determined by how stable the mutation is, if enough stability is proven they are passed to examination by the Administratum and Ordo Biologis then they can be sanctioned or exterminated

Abhumans, besides having weird hair, eye and skin colors they are human, well withing the acceptable limits of deviation
>>82894944
As the Fabricator General of Mars sits on the council, logically he can sanction it. Getting the Council to approve would be needed to sanction using the tech on Marines who are not under the AdMechs control.
>>
>>82895045
The Zentradi are extremely stable, they are all cloned using a process that has proven stable over thousands of years. Their only significant alterations are minor changes to accommodate their size as well as deliberate alterations in skin, hair and eye color to prevent confusion in case the same type of clone gets put in the same unit.
>>
>>82895296
then there are high chances IF they agree with the Imperial Cult

>Abhumans, besides having weird hair, eye and skin colors they are human, well withing the acceptable limits of deviation
Acceptable only for their function. Astropaths are well-respected because they're an absolute necessity for warp travel, but they're feared by all and even cause disgust in others (which they meet with prideful disdain for those who lack their 'gift' of sight).

Abhumans are not as essential and certainly wouldn't be treated better. They're just another human resource to be exploited, and the Imperium already treats human life lightly.

Nigga the SW Empire/Republic has the 40k Imperials beat on brainpower (they actually develop new superweapons instead of praying to find some age old ice cream truck to turn into a tank), tactics (their tactics and doctrine can actually evolve) and even the 40ks supposed strong point: manpower and size (the 14m vs 1m someone posted). The Empire would probably fuck the Republic's shit at the start from the sheer surprise, but any kind of protacted battling would go in the Republics favor, and unless the God Emperor wakes up and gets involved there's absolutely no chance Palpatine doesnt fuck the Empire up.

The thing is, their technology is also super advanced. Even if they spend most of their efforts trying to rediscover their old advancements, what they already have is already quite incredible on its own. It's unreasonable to say they've got them beat on brainpower simply because they're trying to develop new technology when that doesn't necessitate that they're even on the same level or beyond them; they may even be way behind in some respects, such as weaponry and construction ability.

And the 14 M to 1 M comparison isn't even right, since the Imperium dedicates entire worlds to simply producing soldiers. 14 M worlds? They may not even have as many soldiers as the Imperium recruits simply by dint of the fact that they're not cruel or powerful enough to forcefully conscript most of the population from hundreds of thousands of planets.

Plus, 1 M is only those that are mapped. The actual number is countless, all lost in the hubbub of administration. That doesn't necessarily mean they're not being tapped for resources and manpower; it can mean they have yet to be catalogued. Soldiers and supplies can still be taken from such planets, even if the administration at large hasn't formally taken note of them yet.

And Palpatine's powers are small time. I mean, in that he's only 1 guy and the Imperium would have lots of guys who could do the same thing he can.

No, the Imperium makes use of xeno animals as livestock and mounts for soldiers. They only kill SAPIENT xeno creatures: those that already have their own culture and civilization.

The topic of Nids and Orks relies solely on the question of just how much military might does Homeworld have, because were not just talking a battle in the billions, were talking trillions and trillions of enemies (that is if we take the Orks as they are now and bring them in, which is what we have done for the Imperium, so it's only fair for the Orks) and a rapid and practically endless repopulation ability due to their spore based reproduction. It's safe to say that even if Homeworld has enough forces to stave the Orks back, it will be a war that will reduce Homeworld to a shell of it's former self soon enough.

As for the Nids, do the Gems count as biological in nature? Yes. Are they not? Nids still have a way to eat non-biological material (but it's less important for them, since it provides no biomass, just a means of getting through an obstacle) Nids are the absolute master of adaption, and if they cannot eat the Gems, they will find a way to do it soon enough. As for the Gems possession ability, that will be useful for a handful of times, before the Nids adapt a way to ignore the possession, Nids can adapt to anything, not even Nurgle has found a disease that can stop them long term. Not to mention the Nids come in forces that are pretty much twice as big as Orks. They don't fight wars, they swallow worlds whole in an ocean of teeth and claws and chitin.

Nurgle loves all life, but he also loves life cycling and the struggle to survive. Nurgle wants you to be born, he wants you to thrive, he wants you to contract horrible illness and either struggle through it or die and let your biomass become part of new life with its own struggle.

Struggling through it becomes much easier, however, if you accept Papa Nurgle into your heart (and the rest of your body). You basically become a walking tumor that no longer feels pain, with the sole objective of spreading more of Nurgle's bullshit. Whether your mind remains intact depends on what strain of walking tumor you become, I think, but there are still Nurgle servants that retain mental capacity.

So it's not so bad, if you buy into Nurgle and his ideology wholeheartedly. Otherwise, it's a horrible nightmare.

So maybe I'm just retarded and I've been the last one to figure this out, or maybe I'm the prophetic genius of my generation, but when it comes to the imagery of 40k, specifically the imagery of the Imperium, it's all exaggerated religious iconography, right?

For example the famous painting of the Emperor battling Horus, with the former standing in big golden armor and a flaming sword, and the latter in big black Terminator armour and being all evil and shit, it was just a vastly exaggerated piece of what really happened, ie the Emperor and Horus were just two regular looking dudes in combat armour?

Or the Golden Throne, it isn't a giant city-sized honest-to-God throne, but rather a creaky, leaky old stasis pod?

I've been thinking that the Imperium portrays it's heroes and history the same way the Catholic church would, taking into account things like the roof of the Sistine chapel (God reaching out to Adam) and whatnot
>>
Has 40k lore been advanced at all?

Last I remember reading about it, the Empuruuurrrr's golden throne was breaking down, did anything come of that?
