This is something that was brought up in one of the worst runs of Black Panther and has never been mentioned since. It's simply absurd that the Wakandans would have healthcare technology that the rest of the universe does not.

Wakanda was super-advanced BEFORE T'Challa was sent abroad by King T'Chaka who had been personally instituting reforms to modernize Wakanda politically and socially because Wakanda is a deeply socially conservative nation, but T'Chaka knew that to have his reforms continue his son would need to have a broader education base.

There is no 'good reason' for being in Wakanda unless it begins with "Your king asked me to be here", "I was invited by X high ranking Wakandan", or "I crash landed within your borders, I apologize for the inconvenience and would greatly appreciate it if you could show me to the UN Embassy"... and that is assuming you meet someone other than the gorilla tribe who like to start trouble with the Black Panther and the ruling tribe.

Their tech varies from author to author, but they are generally more advanced than high tech parts of New York, but not as advanced as the Inhumans, Stark, or Reed. Some seriously bad writers claim that Wakanda is so advanced that even their average school children are smarter than our real life geniuses and that their scientists are actually smarter than Reed Richards.

Cure for cancer was something a bad author threw in because he wanted to show how amazingly awesome Wakanda was, but it ended up also making Wakanda and BP look really bad. They are accepted to have really advanced medical tech, but things like the cure for the common cold and cancer aren't part of it.

For reference, one bad author actually had BP say "Wakanda invented anti-gun technology centuries ago" after using a sound wave emitter to stop gunpowder from igniting in a bunch of police officer's handguns.
