I'm not saying this just as a fan, but I'm thinking you should try again, they recently (somewhat recently that is) dropped the mordecai shit. It's actually really good now.

There are a lot of songs with Eileen being someone in them, or by someone named Eileen. I'm shocked they never did something with that idea or referenced it as background music.

Rigby was growing as a character around the 3rd season, before it ever started shifting to him. Where he used to tease and fuck around with Mordecai for not being good with the ladies, he started changing to be sympathetic and help him out with his problems. He also stopped becoming the main reason shit kept fucking up, I'd say he developed even aside from the relationship and high school arc.

The story has been shifting around more from the formula meaning nothing. Sometimes like Daddy Issues it would focus more on developing a character or like Thomas/Dome/Button it ended up becoming more of a connected thing.

I'd say the show is fine, it does get tired, but it tends to pick itself back up pretty fast.

I'd say at it's best remains to be seen, Duck Crisis was a glimpse, everyone crew wise who worked on it loved it. Season 7 is pretty much back to it's roots so much that it cut off some things they felt strayed too far from the original vision.

Sleep Cycle sounds and is exactly like a Season 1-3 episode, whether you choose to see that as a good thing or a strained formula thing, it handles new stories well instead of just the same deal with a new character every now and then (it's done that, but it's not the case anymore)

I just wish the people who formerly watched/liked the show would give it's recent stories a chance again. I'd actually love if someone watched it and still said they hated it and be honest about it because it shows more than just "I don't trust you, sounds like a shitty show still"

The only way to know if it's better is to try it yourself. People have different opinions, even if just a little, so they could likely be focusing on an aspect they like to sell you the show again or something they incorrectly think you're looking for in the show and focus on it too much to where you get the wrong idea.

I'm strongly assuming the clone thing is a 3rd test / phase 3 of the dome experiment they're doing, to test if they can spot differences or know each other good enough. This is also a good follow up to the Trust No One story they're doing.

Benson with a crush is probably episodic, same for the favorite band episode

Cheesers with a VIP is likely to lure in Mordecai and Rigby for whatever reason Cheesers is connected to the Dome story, so it's more than episodic

Favorite Shirt is either episodic, or the one about the MM clone.

If you have time, watch The Dome Experiment Special, some guys have been messing with the park for experiments and testing for some future event, they drugged benson after he started to find out their plans, after he woke up they had scientists and people in on the event simulating the park and some people that Benson knew so he would tell them what he found out.

In The Button, that image, the dome was filtering and censoring what the real park guys were trying to warn Benson of, making them look like the guys in costumes from the special.

I feel, though it was less 80's referencing and more "Not Another Teen Movie" kind of deal that I really hated about it. You have an immortal character that's apparently lived through an insane amount of adventures and he got this way because "muh fridged high school gf" And then the move was all about Mordo and Riggs' high school drama (with Rigby pulling some pretty reprehensible stuff like man I was laughing when that just got forgiven like nothing lmao) and so much of this show unnaturally focuses in high school, its so boring.
