The creators usually only make money off of initial runs and the companies/Networks don't know about the Internet beyond they're own apps and websites.

Because cartoons basically don't make money off the episodes or their broadcasts at all. Their profits come from merchandise.

It's a pretty retarded business model, but you can tell. Looks at the commercials that show during a cartoon vs the ones on literally any other broadcast. They make basically no money from viewers.

It's an industry that is fairly small creatively but backed almost entirely by big media corporations. There isn't as much of a competing "indie scene" like there is with music and games.

The artists don't care because the corporations are still paying them (and they just want people to enjoy their stuff), and the corporations are assumably still getting enough revenue to where it isn't a major issue.
